You just don't know how to turn my DT crank ;).
Bahamut does. Maybe you could get some tips from him.
Talking about Scenes From A Memory works :P
And Death > Black.

I'm neutral about that. I like very few Black and Death bands. But Cannibal Corpse sucks.

It is true :P.
Only Bahamut has the magic touch to annoy me though. Ghoul could never pull it off as he does :P.

what i mean is: Cannibal Corpse is pathetic for a DM band
Hey guys whats up, I've just been listening to Goatwhore, funny the bands you can find on myspace.
Death vs. Black arguments are about as dumb as pirates vs. ninjas arguments. Neither side knows what they're talking about, because if they did, they'd realize it's like comparing apples and oranges. Death metal and Black metal strive for different things; black metal strives for atmospheric expression of the nihilist and bleak, whereas death metal strives for the punctuated expression of nihilistic chaos. Similar, but markedly different. In other words, death metal wants to create a percussive, random, distorted and twisted view of music, whereas black metal uses violin style tremolo picking to create starkly minimalist melodies that express a genuine bleak nihilism. Melody vs. amelody.
Again, apples and oranges, fellows.

Goatwhore is a pretty know band, check out www.myspace.com/mannepenis and www.vomiterection.com for some obscure bands

You're missing the point entirely.
People are just saying which they prefer. If they were the same, they wouldn't be able to make such view, as they'd be the same.
They have to be different in order for people to prefer one or the other.

Saying you prefer death metal is different than saying Death>black.
Whereas saying prog>death would be a valid statement, since prog aims to be technical, as does death, and prog does it so much better, therefore prog>death in every way.
Black metal and death metal have completely different objectives -- therefore, comparing them is a futile excercise, cuz that's like saying that beating off>cooking, since they're two unrelated activities that have 2 different aims.

Only if you're turning it into something as analytical as you are doing.
When I said Death > Black.
I meant, Death > Black in terms of my own personal enjoyment of the two genres.

I'm an analytical guy.

In your opinion.
However, when people say "death>black", I usually get the sneaking suspicion that the only black metal they've heard is darkthrone, which is to BM as Cannibal Corpse is to DM, i.e. retarded and totally uninnovative.

Not you in particular, but in general. That, btw, doesn't qualify as a lot. A lot would be mayhem, gorgoroth, burzum, older arcturus, sodom, bathory, Emperor, Sauron, Enthroned, Enslaved, Aborym, Ulver, etc...
oh, i own quite alot of Sodom and Bathory CDs. I own a lot of Enslaved CDs too

I've heard:
Mayhem, Gorgoroth, Burzum, Arcturus (the ones you recommended... dunno if thats old or not), Bathory, Emperor, Aborym, Ulver, Immortal, Darkthrone, Satyricon (early), Behemoth, DragonLord, I.

the arcturus I recommended isn't their black metal, though it's still good. I isn't black metal, and most Behemoth isn't. Still, a pretty good representation of black metal, even though it's pretty mainstream.

I have no power but I think you're in.
I just listened to Machine Head's cover of Metallica's Battery. I dare say that it sounds better, and heavier than the original.

You may have not read the new rules, but one of them includes non-horsemen not being able to rate other lists of non-members.
Also, rule #9
Here I am, bored with everything.

To me that rule makes no fucking sense.
Where is there any harm in us merely rating someone elses taste in music?
Its not like anyone thinks they have power, its just a case of accessing how compatable people are.
Or are we now a total dictatorship?
