My friend told me that HIM were Metal. When I said they're not, he said that they're 'Love Metal and have some heavy songs'.
He died promptly afterwards.

The list grew quite a bit, but is still open for some more additions.
Other bands that were considered "not metal" by users:
Lacuna Coil
Shadowsfall
Lamb of God
All of these bands have/had a fair share of metal influences.
Lacuna Coil was a typical Gothic Metal band until their latest two albums. So they still count.
Shadowsfall do have metalcore influences, but their main sound is still on the metal side. They are acceptable.
Lamb of God are borderline, but lean slightly more towards the metal side. Acceptable too, if just barely.
Bands posted which clearly are metal, but whose new material is generally hated
Dimmu Borgir
Cradle of Filth
In Flames
Satyricon
Dimmu Borgir's newer material is hated by most, but sorry, DB are still metal.
Same applies to Cradle of Filth.
In Flames were metal most of their career, only exception being "Soundtrack....". Their latest album does have metalcore elements, but is generally more metal than "Soundtrack....".
Satyricon have always been metal and still are, they're just a pain for elitists.
Any new non-metal bands are still appreciated.
Hello all. It's me, PenisClown. I have a story for you.
Recently my internet ed up. I'm at an internet kiosk at the moment.
Many of you know of my project with Ghoul. Well, after my internet screwed up, I was stricken with boredom. It was during this time I started experimenting with my grindcore songs. I realised when some parts were played slower, they were more of a punk/crossover thrash/thrash metal style. With this I started writing new material. I then had an idea; What if I make this material into a solo project? But, I can't play guitar. Then, I had it. I could play a power chord, I'll just record the guitar parts on my bass. I hooked up a distortion pedal and already I had finished the bass and guitar tracks for my new style. But I needed a new name, and through a flash I found that day (And blammed) I decided on 'Zombiphoria', and ditched my over satanic lyrics for songs about zombies. So, I took some parts of my grind songs, added new parts, and made 4 new songs:
T-Virus
Risen from the Grave
Zombie Jesus (LAWL)
Undead Dominion
As my grind songs had black metal elements, I also transferred these to my thrash songs. So, now that I've done string tracks and ambient tracks (Yes, I have atmospheric elements too) through my midi keboard, I'm stuck thinking, "Do I still commit to my grind project with Ghoul?"
I've decided to step back on it, and maybe follow it up when I'm ready, or when Ghoul fixes/gets a new recording program.
But right now I'm devoted to 'Zombiphoria', and I hope to get my internet fixed as soon as possible. For now, I have to return to my recording and finish some vocal tracks.
'Zombie Metal'. I like it.

You can do that?
Has anyone here heard Death's The Sound Perserverance album? It's quite good actaully. He added quite alot. He gave a a lot good melodies, but he kept all the Death Metal traits, but gave it his own trademark sound aswell.
