I hate it when people say that.
Helloween created a very different sounding Power Metal.
Dragonforce, Blind Guardian.... They all took after Helloween's Power Metal. Not Anthrax's 'Fistful of Metal' Power Metal. Not Raven's 'All for One' Power Metal. Not Warlock's 'Burning the Witches' Power Metal.
And not Metallica's 'Kill 'em All' Power Metal.
And all of those albums were released in 1983 and 1984, whereas Helloween's debut was in 1985.

THEY DIDN'T DO ANYTHING. THAT'S THE PROBLEM.

That's because none of those are actually Power Metal. They're all Speed Metal.
Helloween was Speed Metal on their first album. They started Power with Keeper of the Seven Keys Pt 1. Even Blind Guardian was Speed Metal once, and they too sounded a lot like the bands you listed, but they eventually changed they're style in the late 80's.

LOL I LIKE YELLING ABOUT THE FRENCH STEREOTYPES OVER THE INTERNET!!!
French clubs are useless. Their biggest project would be the most graceful way to surrender to the German club.
Here I am, bored with everything.

No.
They're just not that sort of Power Metal.
Trust me on this one.
Oh, and should I use this sig:

I'm serious fuckwit, that was what everyone originally called what was to be thrash/speed metal. They called it Power Metal, and I don't really give it shit if it's meaning has changed, all I'm trying to say is THAT IS WHAT THEY ORIGINALLY CALLED IT.
At 2/15/07 12:20 AM, PenisClown wrote: THAT IS WHAT THEY ORIGINALLY CALLED IT.
So since Sabbath was Hard Rock before the term Heavy Metal was coined, I should call them Hard Rock just on the basis that that's what it used to be?
Great fucking logic. It's Speed Metal now get over it.
?

Can you read?
I never said that, I said 'That was what it used to be called', not 'You should call it that because that was what it used to be called.'

No one said that either.
I swear you guys should get off your asses and by some glasses.
Unless these are farces and you don't need glasses, oops I just farted out of my asses.
HEY!

But you've been doing the latter this whole time. Saying "I don't care that it changed." isn't going to make you right. You associate things with what they're called today not what they used to be called.
There's only one fucking Power Metal and the Power Metal that you're talking about is now just Speed.
?

You still agree that Speed was called Power once then?
I can quote shit.
"When young bands started doubling the already brain-bending attributes of heavy metal, adding steroid tonnage to the most explosibe moments, they created power metal. The term was used broadly to describe everything from the wall of sound of Exciter to the doomy black cries of Mercyful Fate, ultimately defining a sound with twice the crunch of classic heavy metal. Two times the speed, two times the spikes; power metal had double everything. Accept, Jag Panzer, and Warlock took dual guitar leads, histrionic covals, and pounding drums to a powerful place, without redically rearranging the rules of Judas Priest and Iron Maiden. Their music protected the inner core of metal from MTV video compromise and paved the way for thrash metal soon afterward." - Ian Christe, metal journalist.

I know Ian Christe. I own a copy of The Sound of the Beast. In that explanation he says that "It paves the way for Thrash." which would suggest he's speaking about the "Power Metal" of that time period. It's still changed. And I can quote Metal Archives and several other websites proving that most of these bands are considered today to be Speed.

Ok, then it's settled.
I'm not gonna bother reading all those pages I've missed, just posting to tell y'all I've been in the loony bin/jail for the past week and a half.
I might be forming an epic/speed black metal band, with me as keyboardist/vocalist.
Welcome back Ghoul.
Penisclown, those releases were classed as power metal, yes. But we're not living in the past anymore. None of those albums were precursors to modern power metal. It's generally accepted that Helloween started the modern power metal movement.
Welcome back Ghoul. (lol i wasn't even here before you left)
And now for olde english.
I have found(eth) my self addicted(eth) To the song "Ruin" by Lamb of god.

I'm pretty sure they work with Nobuo Uematsu on the soundtracks. They did the J-E-N-O-V-A song for FFVII I believe.
I heard a song by Joop Wolters earlier this morning. funny name, good progressive/jazz fusion.
Ok, Phobophile by Cryptopsy has been in my fucking head ALL DAY.
I can't even sleep, I just have to reach over to my bass and play that simple, catchy, fucking riff.
I'm going to say that it's the best Cryptopsy song ever, and even a DM classic.
