They mentioned the good ones. If I could recommend:

Melvins
Devin Townsend Band
Prong (more gruffish)
Blind Guardian
Gamma Ray
The Sword.

Here I am, bored with everything.

Gamma Ray is MOST excellent (/bill and ted)
I always request them during our college radio segments.

Yes. Perfect for his clean singing and melody thing.

I was gonna ask for some help, I've hit a bit of a dead end with my music at the moment, so I'd like you guys to recommend me a few bands to check out.

Can do.

Singing and Melody.

I'm not too familiar to those kinda vocals in metal...

To elaborate, by Singing I mean when the vocals hold notes

I call "singing" grunting, shrieking, growling, not pussy singing.

As for melody, it's pretty straight forward, I love the technical, sweeping riffs in many Bodom songs, and there are some really nice rhythms in a few Iced Earth songs.

Never mention them again here. They are despised.

All the bands I listen to at the moment are -

Children of Bodom

They're acceptable but hated.

Metallica

Not a fan, but acceptable.

System of a Down

No.

Iced Earth

Dunno.

Disturbed

No.

Slipknot (3ish songs, where the singer actually sings instead of shouting, etc.)

No.
Noooo.
NOOO!!

FinnTroll (Only really like 1 or 2 songs, need more Viking / Folk metal!)

Dunno.

Papa Roach ( I know, I'm sorry. :( )

Fuck.
Fuuuuuck.
FACK!!

Help me out?

Here are the bands I listen too. Try them.
Decrepit Birth - Of Genocide is all instrumental. Get Await the Undending too.
Kataklysm - As I Slither.
Carcass - Black Star.
Devourment - Baby Killer and Choking on Bile.
Exhumed - Bone Fucker.
Goratory - Infant Skin Suitcase.
Gorgasm - The Essense of Putresense.
Knights of the Abyss - Welcome to Camelot.
Lord Gore - Morgue Whore.
Necrophagist - Demished to Be.
Suffocation - Peirced from Within
Vehemence - God Was Created <--good.

Try weed, you won't get headaches. Unless you already do, then try Whip-Its for an inhalant (sp?)

And did anyone know GoatChrist's old name was - KornfreakeR? lol, we all started with shitty tastes.

I think, when it comes to soothing him into metal, that might be too much for him..
but his Iced Earth an Finntroll is a start.
especially if he likes Iced Earth, he will like most power metal. like gamma ray, blind guardian, Persuader, Savage Circus, Helloween etc...

speaking of dads and drokness, i think i have a better story than most people. when i was 7 my dad got me drunk because he wanted to see how much beer a seven year old could drink. and in other alchabooze related discussion...shit, i drank a bottle of rum on the weekend and had to go to hockey the next day. wasnt very fun for me. but apperantly it was mildly entertaining for people watching me.

I CANT STOP FUCKING LISTENING TO SIGH. WTF.

I seriously thought everyone knew that my oldest name was "KornFreakeR" :P

Yeah, one does indeed grow up. Back in the day (2003) I listened to Korn, Godsmack and the likes. I'm just glad I never thought that Slipknot were a good band.

and Charon. that Sperm post was way after my prime here. But it was fun. Yes.

and I agree with ShitOnAStick looking like a Angelina hybrid with short hair. Sorry. Don't worry though, I'm not gonna drool all over the place.

....maybe later :)

Nah, seriously, I should get drunk again. I see people talking about beer and I really need some fine alcohol. I smell the need for it, i wasn't drunk in AGES.

I wouldn't worry about it. I mean, whether most metalheads want to admit it or not, a lot of their first bands were shit like korn or slipknot or what not. Nu metal might be shit, but it has been a gateway to real metal for a lot of people.

My first bands were slayer and exodus and venom and such. I never listened to nucrap or metalcore. Everybody says they went through such a phase; I did not. Prior to those bands, I didn't listen to much music save for Alice in Chains and Soundgarden.

I listened to Disturbed and Godsmack for a while... But that was it. I grew out of that in like 2 months. Hey! Guess what I went and bought today!

1x Cannibal Corpse 'Eaten Back to Life' t-shirt = $33.00
1x 'Arsenal of Megadeth' DVD = $34.99

I was going to buy a CD, but now I'm broke.

I should torch the place, but I'd rather just get the faggot emo music out of there and placed in rock/pop. I don't want to destroy local music shops that I regularly go to. :P

At 1/11/07 03:34 PM, SkyCube wrote: Those sorts of bands are in the "metal" section of all high street record shops in Britain. That would be a bullshit reason to put crap in the metal section. They should put emo shit in the pop/rock section.

why not new and old punk too?

It would be better to just put all the punk stuff in rock/pop.
