Lamb of God

Dream Theater

And I like Slayer, but I'm not 100% into thrash.

Hmm, I might consider that, but for now I'll stick here. A few others I forgot to mention are Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Mammstein (forgot how to spell his first name), Metallica (Dunno if they count really), Gwar, and Judas Priest.

Mammstein man, not Rammstein. Ever heard of him? He's an excellent guitar player, though not true metal really. Still neat stuff though.

Can anybody do me a huge favor and tell me why there are so many genres that relate to metal? (ex. Metalcore, Grindcore, Nu-Metal, Thrash) and give me a decscription or link to a site that tells the differences between those types of genres and metal itself?

Yeah, that might help me aswell, i'm well foggy on what different bands are classed as.

Try searching Wikipedia for the genre you want to know more about. They can give you the basic information in most cases. Still, the limits are always a bit dependant of one's view in arts.

Jup, that's a good start. And if you still don't know if a band counts as metal or not, look them up at www.metal-archives.com . It's a simple solution.
