Nope. Sorry.

Go and read through some previous pages of the thread to get a better idea of real metal.

And for future referance, if you want to know if a band is metal or not, check them on the Metal Archives. If it's not there, it isn't metal.

No, they're not. Maybe you should listen to bands like Alice in Chains. Bands like Slayer, GWAR, Megadeth, Pantera, Anthrax, and Metallica (songs from their first 4 albums). Then you'll see why they are not Metal.

No they're not. www.metal-archives.com or the Numetal/metalcore crew.

Oh, and I drew a new logo for Cocytus. A bit rough, can use a bit of cleaning up, but pretty good in my opinion.

Chef_Bawb, too bad, but you don't fit in here. Go to the Nu-Metal/Metalcore club, but maybe you don't even fit in there.

I didn't give Captor of Sin a choice, i said "maybe the Nu-Metal/Metalcore club is a better choice for you" and I didn't mean that as an option. He's not accepted.

I agree with CowsCanBark with Fudge being a good contributer. Nice to have you on board.

The "8 Bands Rule" would be nice, but how would anyone know? I was very inexperienced with Metal when I started the Hell and the first post doesn't contain much information. Too bad there's no edit button....if I'd post this rule now, it would be forgotten after 2 or 3 pages....

and Imperium, about the record deal, my future releases (my debut album will be out on the 6.6.06 (oh the irony! :P) will be available in the USA, Canada, Australia and Scandinavia. I don't think it will be easy to get my stuff, but various underground labels will work together. I made a very good deal and I'm very happy with it :)

we could always ask a mod and see if they can edit posts for us...? not that that would really work...

just a wild idea for the 'trendy metalbands' joiners here
we should look at their age, if they're 14-15 and listen to stuff like Lamb of God or Trivium, there's at least hope of educating them. If some 16+ person wants to join with bands like that, and does NOT realize his musical taste isn't exactly 'metal', I'd say he's too far gone, keep him out.

Just a wild thought :)

At 3/28/06 08:45 AM, duffeknol wrote: Just a wild thought :)

But you still don't know how long they've been listening to that stuff. They could have only just descovered it, in which case they would probably be easier to "convert" than a 14-15 yr old who may have been listening to that sort of stuff for ages.

I have to say this is a most interesting debate, but my final opinion on the matter has to be this:

If someone posts enough real metal bands (i.e. stuff on the archives) then you should let them in, and if they really don't fit in then you can always kick them out again! ;-) Of course, if they only seem to like metalcore it's worth recommending the metalcore club instead, but let them stay if they want to learn about better bands.

And now I think it's time I actually posted something about metal!

I just finished downloading both the Avantasia: The Metal Opera albums, and this is seriously power metal at it's best! I hate to say it, but I think I like some of this stuff better than DragonForce! :o

For those who don't know, Avantasia was a two-part "metal opera" side project of Edguy singer Tobias Sammet. I can't remember the whole storyline, but it's on Wikipedia if anyone cares. Both the albums are brilliant (especially the second one) and if any of you lot have any interest in power metal at all I seriously recommend you check this stuff out. Make sure you get the song "The Seven Angels", because although long (14 min), it's bloody brilliant and makes a great overview of both albums.

I doubt anyone here is really interested in this, but just in case...

To be honest I really don't think you'll like it better than DragonForce, not being a power metal fan an' all. Avantasia isn't no where near as fast or "extreme", though it is far more epic.
I'm not really sure what it is that DragonForce has that attracts non-power metal fans to them, but I doubt Avantasia has it.

Still definatly worth checking out though ;-)

I like almost all metal, when performed and sounding right. I'll still download it when I get home from school today, I'm pretty curious.
And besides, I'm in need of more music lately. I even got sick of the Stormtroopers of Death :P

anyone know em? They rox

My mom is turning more and more into a metalhead, which is pretty cool. I already got her into stuff like Opeth's more mellow songs, Eyes of Fire, Mercenary, Dragonforce, Crowhead, Dream Evil, ect. Well the other day I was listening to my iPod (with the sound all the way up because I'm so hardcore, I'm deaf) and Raining Blood by Slayer came on. She asked if it was Iron Maiden playing and I said no, it's Slayer. I was quite surprised to find out that she liked that song and wanted me to burn it onto a CD for her.

So, not wanting to waste a perfectly good blank CD, I burned some other stuff that was between soft and hard, such as Borknagar, Ram-Zet, Shadows Fall, Into Eternity, and Orphaned Land. She loves it all. TEH METUALHEAD MOMLOL

I should bloody well hope it's performed right! :P

Sammet got some very talented people to play on the albums, including Timo Tolkki (Stratovarius), Kai Hansen (Gamma Ray, ex-Helloween) and Markus Grosskopf (Helloween).

I mean it's not like he just threw together some random people or anything.

hey Duff Ecknol, let me know how Avantasia sounds.

me like power metal. to be honest, i think power metal should not have metal in it because to me it doesn't sound like metal. but that's me.

i could have gone to the Dragon force concert with duffeknol, but i was in London with my gf back then. Maybe the fact that I COULD have gone but I did NOT go still fills some ppl with envy :p

Anyway, I just listened to some songs fro Immortal, and I'm really liking it! I think I might get their Pure Holocaust album since I just saw it at a local cd store.

Depends on what songs you heard. Anything after At The Heart Of Winter marks a shift between short, blasting black songs and longer more atmospheric black metal. Both Pwn, but I like post-ATHOW Immortal much more....

GChrist - I don't have any metal specialty stores around where I live, so let me know if I can buy it online, and if I can get some cash (get a job) I WILL buy it, along with a few other cds I've been meaning to get. I think its awesome that someone from the hell got signed, and I'm pulling for the same for Ghoul, I think he could use it.

Any recommendations for Black metal sounding like old Satyricon (or new 1349)? Because I am DESPERATE for new black metal (not necesarrily new black metal bands, perse, just ones I haven't heard).

thanks. I'm working on drumming a lot lately, so my new stuff should have quite a bit of fast stuff in it.

(only kidding) Thanks a lot. I find myself enjoying that kind of metal a lot lately - it might something that I am hearing now that perhaps I haven't heard before, or just my taste maturing, but I really like it. (though I haven't shed my melodic roots). I thought Hellfire (1349) was a fantastic album, and I wanted something like it. Satyricon was sent to me by a friend, and I found it a somewhat similar sound. Still, I lurve it, and I hope to get more.

Older 1349 any good?

Response to Metal Hell 2006-03-28 19:48:09

Hi everyone

I like nu metal like system of a down, korn , coal chamber , Disturbed

some death like dying fetus , cannibal corpse, deicide (a little , just for the music not the lyric) shadows fall

Some hardcore metal (everyone should listen to this if they dont know hardcore)
Killswitch engage , Trivium , Hatebreed

Some power I dont hate ... Blind Guardians , Rhapsody

black and doom I never really listen , i just once heard a black song from blackthorne but I didnt liked it...

Gothis is gay ...

Everyone should not blame nu metal like that its a genre of metal like another and I think it kick ass.
