Have you heard about "Killer Be Killed" or am I late? It's a supergroup formed by the mighty Troy Sanders, Max Cavalera, Greg Puciato from The Dillinger Escape Plan and Dave Elitch from The Mars Volta. Interesting line-up but I had my expectations up high and they came out with this.

Not really my thing to be honest, some interesting parts in the songs but I thought it would be a little bit more experimental and fresh. Just sounds like a mash-up of Sepultura, Mastodon and some boring metalcore/alternative metal to me. Maybe I was just expecting something so different that I was unable to really enjoy this, especially judging by the cover. What are your thoughts about it?

I may end up buying both the CD and vinyl just for that artwork.
So now should be the time I get into Mastodon?
I guess? I'd personally suggest starting with something like Blood Mountain or The Hunter. Unless you're into heavier and more aggressive vocals. Then start with Remission then go in chronological order from there.

Just listen to Crack the Skye and Blood Mountain.

Well if you wanna listen to it for yourself before you buy it someone posted the entire album on YouTube.
Here
I think one of the top comments on this really describes the album VERY well.
"The dreamy psychedelia of modern Ulver, but applied in the heavy, monolithic style of Sunn O))). It's dark and haunting, but also warm, uplifting, and beautiful, somehow all at the same time. Amazing. This is definitely something to listen to in my bed at night in the darkness before I crash."

I don't think there is a single track on Heavy Rocks (2002) that isn't amazing. Though Heavy Friends, Death Valley and Korosu are fucking masterpieces. But 鐘 (The Bell Tower of a Sign) is an amazing track two. It even inspired me in a painting I'm working on :)

I will admit. 鐘 (The Bell Tower of a Sign) is a pretty good song. And I have to agree that all of the tracks off of Heavy Rocks (2002) are incredible. Hell I don't think there was ever a time where I didn't want to listen to the entire album from beginning to end and not decide to "cherry pick" through the songs that are on there.

Some of their most recent stuff isn't quite on par with what they did in the 90's and 2000's. New Album and Attention Please are something completely different. It's not bad per say, but it isn't Absolutego or Pink. Otherwise, the album Präparat is pretty interesting, but not a masterpiece like the albums Heavy Rocks, Absolutego, Amplifier Worship, Altar and the likes.

Yeah I gotta agree with this. They're not bad but I personally feel they could have been better.

Metal Alliance tour? My gf went to that on the 25th because she won two tickets off of Indiemerch and went with her cousin.
It was the worst concert experience of her life because some dude behind her was being a creep and kept grabbing at her. So she proceeded to kick and elbow the dude til he finally left her alone.

You know. I've noticed this too. Are Boris a bunch of vampires or something? Because they don't look like they've aged at all for the past 20 or so years.....not that theres anything wrong with that. But I've tried looking up to see how old they are and never get an answer. So who knows. Maybe they're immortal or something.

I know both Amon Amarth and Sabaton, but not Legion of the Damned. But I'm pretty picky when it comes to death metal, these days.

Talking about death metal, I'm pretty happy that there will be a majority of death metal bands on the Summer Slaughter Tour 2014 edition. They made pretty poor decisions before, but this year, it's basically what I expect from a tour that is promoted as a death metal tour. The last few years it was saturated by shitcore bands like Whitechapel and others like them.

My point was definitely not to suggest that they shouldn't have explored more genres. Not that they actually did need to explore more genres, especially considering how versatile they were even before trying to do anything dreampop or pop rock. They were already exploring and helping drone, stoner rock, sludge and doom metal evolve with their 90's and 2000's material. I'm happy they did explore these other genres, I'm just saying the final product isn't as amazing as some of their better stuff, that's all.

Far East Asians are often like that. They look pretty much the same age from their early 20's to their mid 40's and sometimes early to mid 50's. Just do the test whenever you come across someone who looks Japanese, Chinese or Korean. Try to guess their age. Sometimes it's quite easy, but the musicians from Boris, even though you can tell their are older then they were in the 90's, still don't look a lot older.

It's like they all have a Dorian Gray thing going on, but they all look at their portrait when they turn a certain age and the painting has gotten really bad by then.

Parkway Drive, I Killed the Prom Queen and August Burns Red are metalcore bands. Suicide Silence is a deathcore band and AC/DC is a rock band. I won't pronounce myself on Machine Head, but I've always felt that there are kind of the verge between being a metal band and not being one.

Motorhead, Metallica, Slayer and Iron Maiden are all metal pioners, though.

I'd recommand sticking around if you are interested in metal music. We won't tell you what to like and not to like, but we don't discuss metalcore, deathcore and nu-metal a lot, around here. So if this is what you are looking for, you might end up being dissapointed.

I've recommanded some bands a little earlier today, you might want to check these out. They are bands I would also recommand you, based on what you listed.

Iron Maiden

As HeavenDuff said earlier: Ghost (aka Ghost BC), Mercyful Fate, Gamma Ray, and Accept. And along with that maybe Budgie.

Metallica

Go with the other members of the "Big Four" so: Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax. As well as some other Thrash bands like Overkill, Exodus, and Testament.

Manilla Road

Cirith Ungol, Slough Feg, Brocas Helm, DoomSword, Cloven Hoof, Isen Torr, Angel Witch, Manowar, and Legend.

Anybody have anything to recommend me?

Depends on what "era" for some of them.
For example theres the Ozzy, Dio, and Tony Martin era Sabbaths.
And older and newer Metallica and a lot and I mean A LOT of people prefer the first 4 'tallica albums and maybe The Black Album.
I don't know much about SOAD but I'll try for the others.
