Oof. Early Dimmu, or newer Dimmu?

Dark Dimmu with symphonic elements. The only way you can tell if you like them or not is by clicking play here:

So guys, found anything good in new releases from 2014 so far? Any of you guys heard the new Alcest?

I'd like to know!

Agalloch - As Embers Dress The Sky

Response to Metal Hell 2014-02-12 21:56:57

By the end of this evening, I will have heard Alcest's new album in full, but the 2 songs I've heard from it already (Opale and La Nuit Marche Avec Moi) are quite good. It's still early in the year, so there's still a lot to look forward to.

Am I the only one who thinks Behemoth's new album is overrated as fuck?

Response to Metal Hell 2014-02-12 22:53:21

Wasn't aware Shirley Temple's daughter was a bassist in Melvins at one point.
And played on Ozma, Bullhead, and Houdini.

I got like no stuff from this year so far. To which I feel a bit disappointing in myself.
I mean it's February. Last year I had a couple albums already.
I only have: some live thing from Conan, Bong Goblin - Chalice of Ecstasy, and Sunn O))) - LA Reh 012.
REALLY looking forward to Terrestrials.
Also looking forward to new: Slough Feg, Motorjesus, The Wounded Kings, Conan, and Ogre.

Apart from the well known classics like Emperor, what other maybe not so heard of black metal bands can you guys come up with that might spark some interest?

Not sure how "not so heard of" he may be, but Satanic Warmaster is pretty good raw black metal. Although it is NSBM, so if that bothers you then don't check him out. Strength and Honour is a good album to start with.

I'm curious about something, is nu metal more of a metal genre than metalcore is? Metalcore is like a fusion between metal and hardcore, while nu metal is metal with elements of things like grunge and rap, among other things.

Woo. Electric Wizard have officially announced they're releasing their new album.
No name revealed yet. Not a set release date (maybe May). Or any other details.
You can read more details and the rest of the interview this info was taken from here.

A post by a user I'm pretty sure isn't active anymore either.

To bring up a band that isn't even metal.

Yeah, I found out about that on Shreddit. Good news. And I heard Yob and Sleep are making new albums. I wonder what Sleep is like without Matt Pike, though.

Talking about this... is there really anyway to make good metal with "groove metal" elements? I'm not talking about throwing in funk elements or stuff like that, though. I'm thinking about that Pantera stuff that so many metalcore and nu-metal bands try to emulate all the time.

Indeed. I heard about it because it was posted on their Facebook page.

Didn't hear about YOB. But woo more good news. Relapse are reissuing Catharsis on a bunch of different colored vinyls.

I wonder what Sleep is like without Matt Pike, though.

The hell?

"The hell?" probably wasn't the correct thing to say there. But thats what I was thinking.
Mainly wondering how that'd work....

Got a copy of Call Of The Mastodon that I ordered in the mail today.
http://www.newgrounds.com/dump/item/b8968b780d0727f3b8ac8864904b8efa

file size too big. had to dump it.

I love getting weird colored vinyls :3

Also. I need to go out and buy Opus Eponymous and Infestissumam before April. I lost Opus Eponymous on my computer and never had Infestissumam.

I wonder too. Wait, does this mean Sleep are back together/producing again? *checks wikipedia* YES! YEEEESSSSS

I had the same reaction when I heard.
I seriously hope this means they'll go on a full on tour to support whatever they're releasing.
Sleep, Electric Wizard, and Vista Chino (Kyuss) are pretty much at the top of the list of bands I want to see live.

Kyuss, too? WTF dude. WHAT, TE, FOOK.

I am SO out of the loop. Log off for several months-year, and all of a sudden, Sleep, Kyuss, and AtTheGates are back together.

Now, if Mr. Bungle got reunited I would SHIT BRICKS. Alas, I don't see that happening...

Yeah. And Kyuss have a new album too. Granted they're under the name "Vista Chino" now (as I said) it's still Kyuss.
The initial line-up was John Garcia, Brant Bjork, Nick Oliveri, and Bruno Fevery. Nick is no longer in the band and their current touring bassist is Mike Dean from Corrosion of Conformity. Chris Cockrell (Kyuss' first bassist) played harmonica on a song off of their new album. If you wanna look it up the name of the album is called Peace. It has pretty much the same sound and feel of any of Kyuss' other albums. The only difference is that Josh Homme isn't playing and a new guitarist that sounds very much like him is playing instead.
This is Bruno Fevery. Granted he isn't the Jolly Ginger Giant. But he is still pretty good.

Now, if Mr. Bungle got reunited I would SHIT BRICKS. Alas, I don't see that happening...

That would be pretty interesting.

It's been such a long time since I've gone to see a live act (busy with work/other personal issues), but I'm finally going to see Between the Buried and Me/Intronaut/Deafheaven on Friday. The line-up is absolutely intense and I'm excited as hell to go.

Not exactly "metal related" but that dumbass Lambesis (from As I Lay Dying) has pled guilty to attempting to hire a hitman to murder his estranged wife. So he'll be spending up to a possible 9 year sentence.

Sounds a lot like my girlfriend. Especially the leather jacket and wearing band shirts.
Though she doesn't like sports. And neither do I.
