Came out May 27th, apparently. It's another ambient album (not that it's a bad thing IMO, but a fair warning for others).

The full album is on Youtube. (Sôl Austan Mâni Vestan it's called)

Ah okay. Thanks for the link. I'll check it out after I finish listening to Legend and Dust.

I started listening to it, about 1/4 of the way through. It is... ambient, thats for sure. Maybe too ambient, not enough change. I'll have to finish the album before I make a verdict but that's what I'm feeling.

The album cover is cool though, except for the Papyrus font...

I just found the band Mercenary. I don't know how I didn't know of em before since I listen to the band Legend frequently.

thanks FromADistance (Bahamut)

If anyone here has listened to Legend before they're similar to that but I guess you could say they're a tad heavier.
If you haven't listened to Legend (which wouldn't really be surprising) here is their first and only album From The Fjords.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ooiP240BWHU

Also found the band Thrasher (which are somewhat similar to Legend).

Well I finished it (obviously) and I actually really liked it.
Granted I felt like I was going to fall asleep at the end hahaha.

I've never came across a band that was outright annoying about it. I have to say though, that the track After Forever by Black Sabbath hurts my brain with cheesy catholic pretentiousness.

It's just... wow...

It's not that bad. Though I'd say their first album is the better of the two.
It took me forever to find a download of it so for the longest time I just listened to it on bandcamp page.

I'll put it this way. I love their first album but my 2 favorite songs by them are on Defender, Redeemist.
And they are Redeemist and Cast On The Black/Lamentor/Guided By The Southern Cross.
But overall I liked their first album more. Its kinda like how I feel towards the newest Black Pyramid album. Overall I think its an okay album but it has my favorite song by them Onyx And Obsidian but my favorite album of theirs is II.

I recently got those two Charlemagne albums that Christopher Lee put out after hearing a lot of buzz about them, and I was really curious seeing as how it's downright impossible to find them on Youtube, so I just went ahead and bought them.

They're decent, but very flawed. The first one, By the Sword and the Cross, is pretty much just an Opera with the occasional distorted guitar. The way the whole thing is structured reminds me a little of Avantasia; talky bit, songy bit, talky bit, and so on in that fashion. If I had to pick a favourite song it would either be The Iron Crown of Lombardy and The Bloody Verdict of Verden, mostly because they're the only two tracks that actually feel like songs instead of Christopher Lee narrating over instruments.

The second album, Omens of Death, is much better in that regard. As the man himself put it, it's more like "full-on metal". Richie Faulkner worked on this, and it shows. The instrumentation is a lot tighter, and the songs actually feel like songs! Huzzah! Now, the bad news is that exactly half the songs are just re-recorded versions of songs from the first album, but with more traditional metal elements, and I can't tell if it's just laziness or if he somehow wasn't satisfied with how the first album turned out. Unfortunately, with a couple of exceptions, like Let Legend Mark Me As a King and The Ultimate Sacrifice, it quickly becomes apparent that Lee's booming voice isn't really suitable for metal. A lot of the time it seems to be that the vocals and instruments are two completely different songs mashed together.

All that being said, I liked them. They're very unique pieces of music. I've also learned a lot about 8th century Central Europe, which is always good.

Combining Christian themes with metal never made much sense. Metal, for the most part, is anti-christian and generally Christians feel the same whether it actually is or not.

Anyway I hate it.

I don't know if I agree with that. Black Sabbath's music had a lot of religious themes, for example. Either way, a certain type of music can't really be inherently pro- or anti- anything, it's up to individual artists to use the music to convey a message, if any. I don't like Christian stuff that's just twenty plus variations of "Praise da lawwwwwwd" over a repetitive 4/4 beat, but if it's good music that just happens to carry the general message of "hey, God is a cool dude", then

There's a very childish anti-religiosity surrounding some genres of metal, a lot of the time the fanbase more than the actual bands, that I think they need to grow out of. I mean, I think Horde's Hellig Usvart is a great album, and a staple of Black Metal no matter how you slice it. But you've got people who listen to stuff like Dimmu Borgir saying it isn't trve and kvlt enough, or whatever.

But you've got people who listen to stuff like Dimmu Borgir saying it isn't trve and kvlt enough, or whatever.

I think the concept of kvlt and trve kind of ruins the credibility of those who want to avoid shitty metal bands and feel an urge to acknowledge everything that is unknown and really absorbs the origin of a genre, even though they might not like it that much or those said artists are not that original.

Like, they spend so much time calling those who only scratch the surface of the immense world of metal pretentious and posers, that they end up being pretentious aswell. I admit I enjoy listening to Dimmu Borgir and even Cradle of Filth, I like the way they mix drama and extreme music, they kind of do it pretty well, maybe their attitudes are kind of arrogant sometimes, but I can't deny I enjoy their music, and it even ain't really my thing.

I enjoy some of the most commercial mainstream sounding bands like Lamb of God, Gojira, maybe Mastodon, Machine Head, stuff like that, but I'm also into artists that are not really mainstream, not because it's cool to hear something only a few have heard about, but because I like it and that's it. And based on what I've read from you guys, I think you agree with me.

About the anti-religiosity in metal music, I agree that some bands are really douches about it, but I can't show any respect for bands who have religious themes, except maybe for Black Sabbath, even though they have some pretty sickening shit on their lyrics. But well, I hate religion, and it's not because it's "metal", cool or trve. I've no respect for any religion and I'm proud of my intolerance, because things I have experienced, and still experience today have led me to hate religion, I won't tell the story of my life, I wasn't raped if you're wondering, but I can't stand religion nor superstition. I have nothing against others beliefs either, as long as they respect mine. And also I'm not an atheist, I'm an agnostic, so I won't say there's no god and and I won't say there's none, but I really doubt there's any superior being I may not hate. And as a musician myself and poet, I must admit that my irreligiousness kind of inspires me.

Metal is not for the most part anti-christian... There is a part of the black metal scene that is, and most likely a part of the thrash metal scene also. But if you don't sing about these topics, it doesn't matter if you are anti-christian or not. Like there is a a lot of folk metal bands. These bands are often more about pagan religions, so obviously they aren't big fans of christiannity, but as long as they don't sing about it, they aren't an anti-christian band. Otherwise, how are the christian themes so incompatible with metal?

Hey everyone! It's been almost, or maybe even, a full year since i've posted here. Did any of you miss me? :P

Lots of excellent North America tours coming up for me. Godflesh / Nails / Prurient, Vicious Rumors / Leatherwolf, Kreator / Overkill, Gorguts, Baroness / Royal Thunder, Neurosis, Goblin's first ever North America tour, etc. as well as a Alcest / Anathema tour hitting up Boston the same night as Chelsea Wolfe - so who knows what i'll decide to see then. haha

What's up with you guys? Any great shows upcoming? Anything new in any of your lives?
