Right now I'm listening to:

Dark Tranquillity, Behemoth, Slayer (a couple cds), Immortal, Opeth, Arch Enemy, Anaal Nathrakh (suprise anyone? - meh), Machine Head, Hypocrisy, Meshuggah, Dimmu Borgir (old and new stuff), and a little bits and pieces of other bands I don't own albums of. As you can see, Im much more of a death metal/melodic metal guy, but I am moving into BM because it does interest me, a lot.

Any of you guys ever heard of Amaran? A recently-split up band, sounds like Melodic Death Metal with clean sung female vocals(no operatic shit, etc.). Sounds good to my ears, too bad they split up because they weren't able to get a replacement for her...(she left first)

Oh, there's another good death/gore metal band to check out. Goratory. Best song by them in my opinion is Fuckhole.

To be honest, I think blindingly high pitched vocals, lyrics having to do with medieval mythical battles, incredible gayness, (you know all power metal bands are gayer than richard simmons), and just an overall METAL feel to them.

Nope i havent seen them live, thats one of the downsides of living in Australia. Their albums are boring as hell to me anyway. I guess im more of a fan of brutal death and old school death. Gotta love sinster and torsofuck :D oh and ill check out that band pestilence, it sounds familiar.

I consider Manowar Heavy Metal. It's not really traditional heavy metal like Judas Priest or Iron Maiden, but it is still heavy metal. It's sort of like what Children of Bodom are to power metal; they don't really have the typical power metal sound, but they are indeed power metal. The same would go for Manowar, except replace power metal with heavy metal.

Scorpions are msotly Hard Rock, just some Heavy Metal here and there. Priest is indeed heavy, even if they often walk into Speed and even some Thrash(Painkiller) spheres.
