At 1/9/06 03:47 PM, Lykaki wrote: Warheim... Brutal Death metal is nu Metal...???? Are you serious? Brutal death metal existed much before Slipknot and Korn and all this shit popped up! If you consider every music that poseurs are trying to pretend they listen to in order to be accepted in the Metal Community, Nu metal, then Mayhem are Nu metal, Gorgoroth are Nu metal, Opeth are Nu metal etc... You are unfair.

I was simply pointing out how dumb 'brutal death' fans are, as they can be compared to 'nu metal'ers. Think of people comparing chugging riffs and debating which bands are heavier etc.

No real band considers themselves 'brutal' anyway, it's just the fans.

ok, i have heard some bands today. i FINALLY heard Sepultra (their old stuff, i heard their new stuff wasn't so good [it was off the album Chaos A.D.), Opeth, Soul Fly, Lord Gore, Joey Jordinson's old band Anal Blast, Morbid Angel, Pig Destroyer, and Death. They are really sick \m/.

I gotta ask, do you think chimaira is black/death metal? thats what realplayer classifys those guys as, and their s/t album is pretty cool.

Response to Metal Hell 2006-01-09 18:31:08

these guys are a local band around here. their pretty cool. They aren't signed, and even the most metal of bands on myspace put /harcore now lol Misanthropy

Response to Metal Hell 2006-01-09 18:43:56

Manowar is a cheese-fest, thats why I like them. Some self-parodying bands can be pretty good - Plus, DnD isn't all that bad.

The guy who just posted to get in, like a couple posts up - you're definitly in (minus slipknot).

Yeah, they are fun, mostly because of the cheesy factor :P

Agreed.

btw, I don't remember, is the review you are writing already done? ;)

Whoa there, not even close! Chimaira is groove/metalcore, and on their earliest releases even nu-metal.

Actually he's kind of right. Most brutal death metal fans are total slam wiggers of the worst kind...

Response to Metal Hell 2006-01-10 09:28:09

Im not sure what u mean by slam wiggers, but i know a few fans of it (well brutal death/grind fans) and they dont seem like wiggers. Im not sure what you mean.

Response to Metal Hell 2006-01-10 11:44:58

Come on people! Brutal death fans can be stupid the same way EVERY kind of fans can. But that doesnt mean there is any bloody problem with brutal death metal! And btw I know fans of brutal death metal that are just fine and kick arse, and power metal fans that are complete cheesy pieces of gayness on two feet. You cant jugde a genre you have no extended knowledge on just by its fans, furthermore if you personaly know only very few. I used to have the same kind of prejudice against gothic metal, but believe me, no matter how many angst-ridden and sexually frustrated teen goths you meet, my dying bride will never cease being a great band.

And btw Chimaira suck nearly as bad as Soulfly.

What I mean is guys with baggy pants and basketball wristbands running around in Devourment shirts. They hang out with the entire Hatebreed fanbase as well.
Have an example:

This is mainly an American thing though...
And I'll never love brutal death, it's boring as fuck. Suffocation live was one of the worst shows I've ever seen.

I finally got the time to listen through your EP carefully. It is really great, and even greater if you think of the short time you have been pumping out music. The EP shines through the guitar work, some of the riffs actually make me feel goose bumps (if BM does not make me feel that it is not BM). The drum and base is ok, but nothing spectacular, generally speaking. The volcals are of a type I have not heard too much of, was surprised when I heard them. I think you should lower their volume a little bit though, sometimes they are over the top in my opinion. That sort of removes the mystic feel the vocals initiate. Good creativity anyways. I suppose the name of the EP means, "in the article of death" or simply "article of death".. enlighten me please :) I will do a little review for each track now:

1. Glorified
Starting off quite catchy with a fast paced rythm I have heared similar variations of before... sort of rockish.. vocals starting and you get the feel of the EP. The song quiets down, to melancholy and winds chilling to the bone.. The sound effects are perfect, not cheesy as is the danger when using such.

2. In Articulo Mortis
Countinuing the melancholy of "Glorified", the song sounds softer. I think the vocals are too dominant at certain parts (see first section). Especially when I turned my speakers really loud the screetches became really annoying. I can fully understand this, as it feels wrong to play this song loud. That is kind of like singing in a funeral. A certain part of the song made me feel I was in a saloon in the wild west, the cold wind being the dust blowing.. it was a farm feeling. 2.18 to 2.52 approx. I really liked how you connected it to the next part of the music. Allowing myself to be vivid and my imagination carrying me off, I would say I see a graveyard outside of a small town, with the tomes covered by sand.. a menace rises from beneath. Did not like the start, loved the end.

Whispers from far BeyondWhispers from far Beyond
The "whispers" are way too loud. Totaly ruins the song to be quite frank. I feel there is a lack of a bridge at 0.50 approx. The song was a little boring, did not like this one at all, sorry for being harsh.

Echoes of Despair
Ah, something to please my ears again. Was afraid it was going to be like "Whispers from far Beyond" in the start, but the intro sets the right feel for the longest piece of music on the EP. The riffs are truly amazing.. The middle part "restarts" the song.. the first part being the foreplay and now the real shit starts, rebuilding tension. My favourite song in total. Good black metal with some spices.

Imprisoned
This song is a little death metalish, resemblancing "Echoes of Despair" in that the song has a distinguishable middle part "sticking out" of the regular song. Oh, and did I hear something close to a guitar solo? Liked the vocals of the song since you can at least try to picture the words being sung.. I think I heared "metal" "trapped" "wind".

Into the Abbys
The most technical song on the EP I recon, you get to show some neat guitar skills. The intro is sweet. You told me you practiced 30 hours a week, I don't doubt it ;). "Into the Abbys" is a fitting title for the final song. I do not have a lot to say about this one, except that I like to listen to it. I figured it is an excellent song to play at high volume.. then the vocals started. Either my sound system is a little wacked (may need to adjust some things) or other people have experienced this too..

To conclude I would say damn good job making this, have a huge pat on the back from me :P If you got time/energy/will to change anything I would say tweak the vocals a little some places.. the rest is good enough.
/clap
/cheer
I need a shower now :P

I can see people discussed Manowar and power metal. I listen to it cause I always get in a good mood from those silly tunes ;-)

HAIL HAIL TO EENGLAND HAAAIL AHAAIL HAAAIL!
and so forth.

Response to Metal Hell 2006-01-10 13:36:07

Oh, I listened to the EP too. I wont write too much and about each song something different, because I just cant bother right now. But it was overall great, sometimes pretty original, some nice riffs, very melancholic but sometimes pretty 'arrrrr' too, a bit soft sometimes but I can forgive that, some parts were technically GREAT, and generally GOOD JAWB!!!!!!!!!!!

Response to Metal Hell 2006-01-10 15:02:22

PZY, you are right, I wanted to burn the first EPs today, made a test CD, put it into my CD player and damn, the vocals are really too loud. Luckily, I set the release date to the 15th, so I can still lower the vocal volume. THANKS :) thanks for all the other kind words and I'm glad you enjoyed it, thanks to Lykaki too :)

I'll start refining the vocals right now.

happy i could help :D
btw, i used only my left speaker while listening to the EP.. rofl.. ye. So that makes the record a lot better :P

Haha, well, that's good news. I'm remixing the vocals at the moment, lowered them by 3 - 6 DB per track, now it really "flows" well :)

Well, you review's very neat, you could also post it on Metal-Archives ;) love getting the reviews there.

sure i could submit it, saved it as a word document. i do not know a lot about the technical things about music, but i recognize good shit when i hear it.
hope a record company wants to releaze your EP.. dunno if you have organized that or not, but if you haven't I wish you luck ^^

Its close to completion, I wanted to wait until I've heard the EP a number of times instead of writing on my first impressions. I promise, however, it will be a good review (and a positive one at that)...My name on the archives is the same as the one I use here (imperium).
