I talk to Bahamut all the time. He's quite the jolly chap, but he has limited internet since he is between jobs right now and has been floating from temp gig to temp gig for a while.

Not really "metal" but a band I listen to called YAWN (yes its in all caps for some reason ._.) finally started releasing more music.
They only had one song out for the longest time called A Horse Called Jetpack.
If anyone wants to check em out you can find their stuff here.

I don't know if you guys remember, but a while back I gave you guys this situation :

If you were to be dropped on an island with 15 albums of your choice and that those would be the only records you could listen to for the rest of your life, what would they be (Not just metal albums, anything of any genre).

And if you guys are like me, you most probably saved that list somewhere on your hard drive :P So what I wanted to do today was to ask you guys to make a new list, and not look at your previous list and when you are done, compare your choices and post them in here. I was wondering if the choices I made back then, would have been good choices, and of course, if I end up with the same albums... it will mean that they were relatively good choices!

So, if you'd like to particapte, feel free to do so! Here's my new list.

April 2013

Agalloch - Ashes Against The Grain
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - F (sharp) A (sharp) Infinity
Ulver - Perdition City
Dream Theater - Images And Words
Les Cowboys Fringats - L'expedition
If These Trees Could Talk - Above The Earth, Below The Sky
Benighted - Insane Cephalic Production
Kansas - Leftoverture
edIT - Crying Over Pros for No Reason
Spastic Ink - Ink Complete
Agalloch - The Mantle
Cynic - Focus
ISIS - In The Absence Of Truth
Blood Red Throne - Altered Genesis
Sigh - Scorn Defeat

Compared to:

March 2012 (I'll put a * before those that remained the same)

* If These Trees Could Talk - Above the Earth, Below the Sky
* Agalloch - Ashes Against The Grain
Agalloch - Pale Folklore
* Dream Theater - Images And Words
* Les Cowboys Fringats - L'expédition
* Kansas - Leftoverture
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Yanqui U.X.O.
Benighted - Icon
Fleshgod Apocalypse - Oracles
* Blood Red Throne - Altered Genesis
Symphony X - The Odyssey
Kalmah - Swampsong
Blotted Science - The Machinations Of Dementia
* edIT - Crying Over Pros For No Reason
* Ulver - Perdition City

That's 8 ou of 15 that I would have kept. So those seem to be good choices! But out of the 7 I removed, three of those were replaced by album of the same band. Those would be Agalloch - Pale Folklore replaced by The Mantle, GY!BE - Yanqui U.X.O replaced by F (sharp) A (sharp) Infinity, and Benighted - Icon replaced by Insane Cephalic Production.

Give it a try if you still have that oooold list from March 2012 :P

No, there is not 57% of metalheads in the population and if they are sampling in high school, which it kind of looks like, the results will obviously suck.

At least, they made the effort of considering various metal genres and subgenres, so the test results might be interresting once you have eliminated Rage Against The Machine, Marylin Manson, Slipknot, Deftones, Bring Me The Horizon and all that wannabe metal stuff that really shouldn't count in the first place, but that they obviously did count in the testings...

Actually, limited internet was only because the flat down in London doesn't get it until next week and the best I can use with my phone is to check on Twitter and Facebook. As for the whole job thing, lack of it just gives me loads of spare time and at least helped to see the live shows from this week. However, I do get fed up with being stuck in the house all day long so I really want to get something.

Yeah but if you try to tell some High School kids that those bands aren't metal they'll get all pissy about it -_-
Same goes for Asking Alexandria and shitty bands like that.

Well Ozzy hasn't exactly been at his best singing wise in the past couple years so its not much of a shocker there.
And fucking YouTube apparently blocked the only version of God Is Dead? without any of those "IHEARTRADIOONDEMAND"s in it other than this one I found that has some dude talking over the first minute or so of the song.

At 4/21/13 05:34 PM, amanda wrote: Anyone here into progressive metal/core music? Or just straight up metal?

I am. Metalcore is a genre that suffers a lot from it's popularity. So many bands, produce so many generic and boring core albums, it ends up shadowing the good albums.

I really like Protest The Hero and Between The Buried And Me, are fantastic bands! The Human Abstract's album Midheaven is very good also, while I feel that some of their other albums are way too wanky and isn't quite mature. I feel this band is always trying to find itself, but can't see to accomplish their goal. What comes out of this is an uneven discography, with a few gems here and there. Other than that, I have very limited knowledge in prog metalcore. I know of a rather young band named Everything After Zero. That's about it... Oh! Would bands like Born Of Osiris count as prog deathcore or somethin' along those lines?

Mastodon - All The Heavy Lifting

Stöner Kebab - Superdoom

I haven't been around here for a while so I don't know if anyone mentioned them before, but these guys are pretty epic, really good psychedelic and massive sound, I haven't found something so good in this genre since Bongripper, plus, their name is astoundingly hilarious. If you enjoy some good stoner doom and never heard about these guys you certainly should check them out. Enjoy!

That's the point of the process :P It's heart-breaking when you have 500+ albums to chose from and you can only pick 15.

Well that surely is interresting :) I never knew that! Next fall I'm going to start my master degree in political science. Agalloch - Ashes Against The Grain
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - F (sharp) A (sharp) Infinity
Ulver - Perdition City
Dream Theater - Images And Words
Les Cowboys Fringats - L'expedition
If These Trees Could Talk - Above The Earth, Below The Sky
Benighted - Insane Cephalic Production
Kansas - Leftoverture
edIT - Crying Over Pros for No Reason
Spastic Ink - Ink Complete
Agalloch - The Mantle
Cynic - Focus
ISIS - In The Absence Of Truth
Blood Red Throne - Altered Genesis
Sigh - Scorn Defeat

Going through my list, I'm wondering why I removed Blotted Science - The Machinations Of Dementia of it. It's one of the greatest albums I've ever heard. Maybe I'd make some room for it by removing either Agalloch - The Mantle or Cynic - Focus. But that would be a fucking tough choice...
