I started listening to it last night and was wondering what any of you thought of it.

I like them quite a bit. If you like them, check out His Hero is Gone (my previous post linked to one of their EPs)

Have you found Nokturnal Mortum? Their album Goat Horns is probably the best black/folk influenced album I have had the pleasure of listening to.

Hm. I suppose since I lurk here often I should join. The procedure is to list your 10 favorite metal bands, right?

Just listened to the track "Goat Horns" and man I gotta say these guys are fucking awesome. Thanks a bunch for the recommendation, with that you should be granted full permission to this thread whenever if it were up to me, haha.

I laughed at Wikipedia labeling them as "National Socialist black metal". These guys will be the first Ukrainian band I've ever listened to :)

You might like NZ band Winter Deluge http://winterdeluge.bandcamp.com/.

Or if blackened thrash with a healthy dose of death tickles your fancy (don't laugh) try Exordium Mors http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3E5Gk4kd7CE

So, that's my problem. I tried looking around at local Best Buys and Fry's and such, but they were all a little out of my price range. I did find a pretty good one online for cheap, but as I stated earlier, it probably won't come in till mid-January.

Damn, that blows. All I've relied on to get this stuff is Amazon who have not only been reliable, I've also found them for cheap as stated earlier. Then again, anything can go wrong with a 97p cable.

In relation to that, I have decided to expand my Top 10 list into a Top 25 list. For two reasons, to apologize slightly for the lack of Metal Calendar so I can introduce more great music and that I really feel like there was a lot of great albums this year. Also, I really, really, need to write something music related, I've been suffering withdrawal, lol.

I felt 2012 was really lacking this year but I may have not looked at the right places for them. Only later on in the year did I discover Diablo Swing Orchestra and their latest album has reached #2 for my best of 2012 with only Dawnbringer's Into the Lair of the Sun God. Infact, had it not been for one song on DSO's Pandora's Pinata, it would have easily been my best of 2012. It's one of those albums where you love listening through the whole record but there's that one rotten apple on the way that does keep it away from perfection.

Infact, I can just list off my six favourite releases of 2012 and that's it:

1. Dawnbringer - Into the Lair of the Sun God
2. Diablo Swing Orchestra - Pandora's Pinata
3. Ensiferum - Unsung Heroes
4. Angel Witch - As Above, So Below
5. Wintersun - Time I
6. Sigh- In Somniphobia

Hmm...thats a toughie. You could try listening to Come My Fanatics or possibly their first album Electric Wizard. Ya know get their first 3 albums out of the way before you listen to stuff like Let Us Prey, We Live, Witchcult Today, and Black Masses.

That album's definitely going at the top of my to-get list :) And surely the first band from NZ I've ever listened to. haha. good stuff.

Haha Sweet man! Yeah these guys are intense, live it feels like your face is getting mashed by a rusty spoon. They're pretty young too, sorta early to mid 20's, but they've been around for fuckin' ages....well 7 or so years, but that's pretty long when you come from NZ

I don't usually like female vocalists for some reason, but it sounds awesome.

Sort of like a mix between Florence Welch, Grace Slick, and Cedric Bixler-Zavala...if he was a woman

Yeah man totally, and you saw them live? That's absolutely awesome. These guys seem to this style of music better than anyone. And yeah looks like they finally released their first full-length album this year (well last year technically ehehe) after 7 years of just a demo and and EP. Hope they end up making more.

True, but I'm pretty sure Garm isn't into metal anymore. It's not too big of a problem though; ICS Vortex is a more than able replacement (ICS was on La Masquerade Infernale as a guest vocalist) and I've seen their live shows with Vortex and he's quite the frontman.

Yeah, he's good. I never heard Sideshow Symphonies, though.

(ICS was on La Masquerade Infernale as a guest vocalist)

Yeah, the Chaos Path. That was a really good song.

Yeah, he's good. I never heard Sideshow Symphonies, though.

It's not their best, but that's not Vortex's fault. I feel like Steinar Sverd didn't really give it his "all" on that album.

Yeah, the Chaos Path. That was a really good song.

He was also on Master of Disguise, too. God I love that album. It's one of my biggest influences. I think, on the demo after the one I'm currently working on, I shall cover Of Nails and Sinners.

Jason Newsted's new band released a snippet of their first album. I really like it. It's what I imagine Motörhead would sound like if they did Thrash.

Yeah, same.

I was actually really impressed with it. I had no idea Jason was such a good singer, and I'm assuming since the project is named after him, he does most of the songwriting.

I really need to get myself some more stuff by Sigh. But I can't seem to find any good download link ! Avant-garde black metal is a genre I've loved for years now. But I'm now getting back into it. Arcturus is a magnificient band, and so is Sigh. I need more stuff of the genre !

If you guys have any good recommandations, please just share :)
Otherwise, I'm still looking for some more albums by both of the previously mentionned bands. I already own Hangman's Hymn by Sigh and also La Masquerade Infernale and The Sham Mirrors by Arcturus. Anything else would be highly appreciated !

I've only own Imaginary Sonicscape and In Somniphobia but both are worth checking out for sure.

Going back to a conversation regarding Mr. Bungle. I have listened through the self-titled album and I can understand why one won't like it for the lack of real flow to it but as something that's out of the box, I am giving it a better chance and the more I listen to it the less the random moments bother me. This won't mean I'll listen to every album that pulls off this stunt as this record still has a lot of great moments to it. I may not be that experienced with avant-garde music but I'll like whatever sounds good to me.
