What I have so far:

Dethklok - Dethalbum III
The Sword - Apocryphon
Mastodon - The Hunter
Mastodon - Crack The Skye
Opeth - Blackwater Park
Divine Heresy - Bringer of Plagues
Xerath - II
System Of A Down - Toxicity
Testament - Dark Roots Of The Earth

A nice little collection I have made so far I must say

I've got a list of my own. I purchased these with my holiday money:

Immortal - At the Heart of Winter
Immortal - All Shall Fall
Immortal - Sons of Northern Darkness
Satyricon - Nemesis Divina
Carpticon - Master Mortality
Tsjuder - Desert Northern Hell
Urgehal - Ikonoklast

Still planning on getting some more. Not bad for someone with only $100 of holiday money eh?

I'll soon spend a bit of money on more albums but I'll check on my friend first tomorrow.

Two things today, first have any of you picked up the album Blessed He With Boils by Xanthochroid? I just got it and it is ruining my rudimentary end of the year lists. I love this beast of an album, so I suggest checking it out.

Secondly, have any of you guys listened to the band Prototype? They've been recommended to me by a few acquaintances and I was wondering where I should start, because I seem to be having a hard time tracking down any of their albums, so I want to get an album I should enjoy.

I just listened to the new Behold...the Arctopus album. It's alright, definitely not bad. The reviewers on MA were really harsh on it. It's better than most of Necrophagist's stuff, that's for sure. Still, it's got nothing on Nano-Nucleonic Cyborg Summoning.

They are a new band, this is their debut album and they've released an EP too. They best way I can describe them is progressive symphonic black metal with some folk metal influences. Really good stuff. Mayhaps even top 5 of the year.

I've been looking for black metal bands with folk influences. That sounds awesome, I'll probably check them out later.

Also, why is buying albums such a pain in the ass? There's always a problem every time I try to purchase a god damn album, especially online. Would you say it's virtually impossible to get an album that was released in 1991?

In all fairness, I am not the biggest fan of Reign in Blood as an album. I really dig a couple songs (Angel of Death, Raining Blood, and Postmortem), but some of the other ones just seem forgettable. I much prefer South of Heaven and Seasons in the Abyss because they feel more complete as an album instead of just a collection of songs with a few standouts. Just my two cents though.

Here is a link to the single for the album. It's the only one besides a pure acoustic interlude called Winter's End (which is also really good, just less indicative of their style) I could find. I would also say there is a fair bit of power metal influence in there too (especially on the cleans). Everyone check 'em out. I've listened to the album like fifteen times now and I just got it a few days ago.

Anybody here like His Hero is Gone? Probably one of the best hardcore/sludge bands out imo. Speaking of hardcore, do you guys listen to much of it? And, what do you think are the main characteristics that separate punk and metal (musically)?

I would agree actually, they do have some other better albums but that's not to neglect Reign in Blood. God Hates Us All might even be my favorite. South of Heaven was awesome too.

That was pretty awesome man, I gotta say. I'm curious to see what else these guys will produce, we need more bands with this kind of style. Where are they from btw? I know it sounds ridiculous, but it bothers me when I'm listening to a band and I don't know what country they're from. haha.

Just wondering Zodir, what was your problem with the external hard drive again? I've recently had problems with mine regarding the cables and not only did I have the power supply starting to wear out, the USB cable packed it in today. I already got the replacement for the power supply but will have to wait until the new year for the USB cable. The USB cable was only 97p but apparently the wire is like 5m long which I'd only ever need to use half the length. The power cable was a bit to spend with it being 12 quid but it does work. I may have had to spend money there but at least I can still use the external hard drive providing I have working cables.

My problem is the USB cable that connects my laptop to my external hard drive broke. Specifically the end that connects to my hard drive broke off. So, that's my problem. I tried looking around at local Best Buys and Fry's and such, but they were all a little out of my price range. I did find a pretty good one online for cheap, but as I stated earlier, it probably won't come in till mid-January.

In relation to that, I have decided to expand my Top 10 list into a Top 25 list. For two reasons, to apologize slightly for the lack of Metal Calendar so I can introduce more great music and that I really feel like there was a lot of great albums this year. Also, I really, really, need to write something music related, I've been suffering withdrawal, lol.

Now, I don't mean to be rude, but a lot of your list is very -core based. We have come to the consensus that core doesn't really count as metal. I am not an official, but this is just my little thing to you. You're welcome to stay, but be warned we generally ignore core music as a whole and talk about other bands.

either physical copy or download

It's seriously the only thing I don't have in regards to their officially released stuff at the moment.

These bands are mostly Post-Hardcore, Deathcore, Metalcore, Thrashcore, etc.

Prostitute Disfigurement

Aside from this, you don't have much Metal in your list. You wouldn't really fit in, if this all you listen to. If you are more "metal stuff", would it be Thrash Metal, Doom, Black, Death, Prog, Power, Drone, Stoner and the likes, you should make a list based on those rather than the more core-oriented bands. Let us know if you still want to join :)

I thought it was okay. But I felt Electric Wizard's song could have been a bit better.
But overall I'd still give it a strong 7/10.
