I only have Acid King and Blood Ceremony at the moment....
I'm not sure how fans of Doom Metal feel about Gothic Doom Metal, but if you don't mind the Goth I would recommend Draconian.
I'm generally okay with all subgenres of Doom Metal. Although for some reason I can't get as into Funeral Doom as I can with others....I'll be sure to look them up as well though. I have a list of other bands to look up as well but I'll probably start with the ones I was recommended last night and today first.

That's funny, because funeral doom is pretty much the only genre of doom I listen to. Ex. Nortt, Skepticism, Thergothon, Funeral (Nor), etc...

If you want female fronted bands Cadaveria is a good place to start. The vocalist has a Bathory complex and bathes in blood on a regular basis to keep her skin young-looking.

Their first album and Haunting the Chapel EP were heavily influential to black metal (listen to Bathory, and you'll find they borrowed quite a few riffs). The second album seems to be popular among the early death metal bands. And of course there's Reign in Blood, which you would have to be mad to deny it's influence, regardless of your opinion of it.

For some reason it just seems that all these bands they "influenced" did a way better job than they did. Sure they had good ideas. But most of the time their songs were simplistic wannabe evil thrash metal tracks. They had good riffs, but the song progression always seems to make the tracks forgettables and mediocre.

I can understand their influence. But damn... I can't like them...

Ya know I've been considering doing that, but I dont know many places around here that sell patches for most of the bands I listen to ._. which sucks.....

I broke mine apart and put it back together with all matching sides. Did I cheat? Yes. But I solved the damn thing!

I didn't know you were arguing their quality. Regardless of their corniness, they were influential. Look at Venom, among the silliest bands ever.

Seeing Angel Witch tonight, oh hell yes. Support act is also something to look forward to with Enforcer playing. My sister wants me to try and get a last minute coach to London to see Rhapsody on Monday. I really need to see them live and it's doable since I took a last minute coach to see Devin Townsend last year.

I didn't question that. But I'm not surprised you don't like most black or death metal, that's what I meant. And yes, Power Metal guy two :P

Black metal can be more forgiving if folk metal is involved, hence why I can dig Moonsorrow.

Angel Witch with Enforcer and a new doom metal Age of Taurus made one hell of a show last night. Was glad I picked up Enforcer's Into the Night while I was there as it was ridiculously hard to find online beforehand. At least now I'm fixed with that. Angel Witch played songs from self-titled and the latest which is fine since their other two releases are hardly anywhere to be found. They played the best from both albums and amazingly enough, the show alone made me appreciate the band even more.

Yeah, I really dig their debut album. Features some of the most awesome riffs of the NWOBHM. The title track, White Witch, and Angel of Death I think are their best tracks and some of the best songs of the NWOBHM. I always found them kinda underrated personally.

Speaking of Immortal, I have gone back and listened to At the Heart of Winter and Sons of Northern Darkness again, and I was wondering if there was any other bands of a similar style to them. Black metal with a solid thrash base. Any recs would be nice, and a preemptive thanks!

Then go ahead and start listening. I think In The Name of Suffering is essential to both sludge and hardcore fans alike.

I haven't listened to that much Eyehategod, which is just silly since I'm such a huge sludge metal fan. But I remember really liking what I heard by them. Maybe I'll ry and get an album or four. ;)

Yeah, there's something about that style that I really like. Something along the lines of At the Heart of Winter would be swell. Either this blend of metal subgenres does a damn fine job or Immortal are just damn good at playing metal. My guess is both!

Hey guys, my band just release our first album... it's basically progressive metal, with a bunch of other influences thrown in. If you're a fan of Porcupine Tree, Opeth, Agalloch, BTBAM, or any other bands of that sort, you'll probably enjoy us.

Thanks a lot!

Progressive (BTBAM leaning towards the metalcore side, Agalloch towards the black metal side- both bands go beyond the boundaries typically expected of their respective genres, though, thus the `progressive` moniker).

I have listened to the track you shared. Cool stuff. Reminds me more of bands like Periphery, Scale The Summit and Cloudkicker then Agalloch though :P

I'm sorry to say this, but you're gonna have to be more specific. There are a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT of bands that can fall under that moniker. I could give you a list, but that list would be rather large because a solid majority of metal IS melodic.

I do appreciate your intent though. Well, I'm also glad that somebody else shares my views on doom metal. For those who like their doom metal ultra slow and drenched in solemn grief should check out Virgin Black. I keep coming back to them when I'm in a doom-y mood. Not the slowest ones in the game, but good solid clinical darkness. Although their new album, Fortissimo, wasn't what I'd hoped, they have an impressive resume. For those who like their doom metal like their special ed classes, i.e. slow and lachrymose, should check out Virgin Black.

And yes, they are melodic.
