As a birthday present, my brother will be getting me tickets to see Gojira, Lamb of God, and Dethklok in August. Seeing Gojira and Dethklok are on my bucket list.

So, I'm going to see the Iron Maiden/Alice Cooper in July and I'm dragging a friend along with. Today he told me he had never really listened to Iron Maiden outside of a few songs, so he asked me which album he should buy to listen to before the show. I was a bit stunned by this, so I told him I'd get back to him on that. So, before I respond, what are your suggestions. Personally, I say the best one to start with is The Number of the Beast, but I feel that the best overall Iron Maiden album is Seventh Son of a Seventh Son. What are your guys' thoughts?
Secondly, after really digging Huntress's debut album, I'm on a quest for good female fronted bands. So far I have found Christian Mistress (decent) and Battle Beast (pretty good). Any other suggestions?

SEVENTH SON
SOMEWHERE IN TIME
POWERSLAVE
PIECE OF MIND
YOU CAN"T GO WRONG WITH THAT (AND CAPS LOCK IS CRUISE CONTROL FOR COOL)
Listened to the new Porcupine Tree album today. Had some good atmosphere, but fuck was it BORING. They did with an entire album what they could have done in 15 minutes or less. I respect drummers who can sit back and compliment the music through minimalism, but shit, it sounds like they fired the guy. The whole thing is like a Godspeed album, but less interesting.
Also, for Iron Maiden, I think Piece of Mind is the best entry album, as is the debut. Though my fav is probably Seventh Son.
Definitely show him Seventh Son, because that's both the best Maiden album AND I believe they're playing it in entirety on this tour?
Besides that album, the only Maiden albums I personally like are Powerslave and PoT.
Not really a fan of any other Maiden albums.

Nice! They're from Boston, so I live about two hours from them, so I see the guys at shows all the time whenever they aren't touring.
Mainly just Nick(bass) and Bassil(drums) though. Chris(guitarist with long blonde hair) is usually too busy being a nerd to go to shows and Alex(guitarist with shorter black hair) is just too plain anti-social to go to shows. haha

I honestly cannot tell if you're referring to their 2009 album, The Incident, or the Storm Corrosion album which just came out which is the newside project of Steven Wilson and Mikael Akerfeldt. Or even the 2011 solo Steven WIlson album. I really don't know which you're talking about.
But regardless, I feel sorry for you if you can't appreciate *insert whichever of those three albums it is here*
Going to ATP's I'll Be Your Mirror festival on friday, only for that day. Here's the lineup:
Slayer playing Reign in Blood
Sleep
Melvins
Yob
Wolves in the Throne Room
A Storm Of Light
Now you can all tell me how jealous you are that I'm seeing such legendary bands on the same bill.

Can't argue with that line-up. Maybe I'm not so huge on Gojira or Amorphis but they're not the kind of band that I wouldn't want to see on stage. That saying, I really should look into those two bands but I'll be occupied with my recent onslaught of CDs.

Maiden and Cooper, that's a perfect live show right there. I still need to see Alice Cooper live. Hopefully he does make his way to UK again soon so I'll have another chance to see him live. I think I was mostly put off by the new album which is why I didn't see him around Halloween last year.
What are your guys' thoughts?
If AniMetal has to say Powerslave and Seventh Son despite not being much of a Maiden fan, then that's saying something. Powerslave is a must!

Christian Mistress seem to get better as I go along. Give them another album or two and they should fully establish their style by then.

It was Storm Corrosion. This guy made it out like it was Porcupine Tree.

Then keep the tissue box ready, because it was fucking boring, and this is someone who holds Wilson with pretty high esteem. Other than some English folky moments, jazzy guitars, and the vocals (but seriously I literally checked to see if Thom Yorke was a guest musician lol), they just repeated the same fucking thing in over and over again.
After Forever >>> Every other female fronted metal band in existence.
After Forever featured vocalist Floor Jansen, who you may also recognize from participating in projects like Ayreon and The Devin Townsend Project. She also has a new band called ReVamp.
After Forever also, at least originally, featured Floor's brother Mark Jansen on guitar - whom you may recognize from Epica and the tech. death metal band MaYan.

unless someone else here can help me out with this
i recently decided to give Budgie more of a listen and i got downloads for all of their albums and all of them are working but i can't seem to find a working download for "If I Were Brittania I'd Waive the Rules"
and right now i can say my favorite album is Power Supply :3
but i haven't listened to all the rest of the albums yet so thats subject to change

Just clicking on the link doesn't work, you have to open it in a new window/tab.
I highly recommend watching this everyone. The male vocalists sound a bit shit at this show, and the guitars are mixed a bit oddly but as a whole it's an amazing performance by an AMAZING band.
Setlist:
01. Beautiful Emptiness
02. Between Love And Fire
03. Sins Of Idealism
04 My Pledge of Allegiance Part 1
05. Monolith of Doubt
06. The Evil That Men Do (Iron Maiden cover)
07. Eccentric
08. Follow in the Cry
09. Through Square Eyes
10. Digital Deceit
11. Life's Vortex
12. Final Countdown (Europe cover, but it's cut out from the video for some reason)
Definitely worth spending an hour watching and listening to. :)

All very different bands, but ultimately I still prefer After Forever to all of them.
Sinners Bleed is awful though.
UneXpect is great, but personally, it's not the vocals that I listen to them for.

They get some touring members. I believe it's Mike Keneally and Bryan Beller. Which is interesting because they both played primarily in Frank Zappa-esque bands or prog bands. It's an interesting change of pace.

I listened to about half of the show before I needed to get off, but I dug it. Any album of theirs in particular I should check out?
I also have recently realized that I have very few traditional metal bands in my library, it's really only Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Manilla Road, Tygers of Pan Tang, and Slough Feg. And Brocas Helm. Any gems that I'm really missing out on?

Have you not heard this? It's freaking sick. I dunno about their stuff on albums, but I love this song. They should have released it on CD. I have the video on my Zune. The vocals are awesome.

Basically their first two albums are great gothic metal, more or less. Very dark and epic, they also featured Mark Jansen on guitar and harsh vocals before he left the band due to problems with his sister, the singer, and he went on to form Epica.
The third album is a concept album, and is pretty proggie and great, but there's definitely a hit-or-miss vibe about it. And some of the tracks are so downright cheesy that it's hard to get into. But as a whole, this album's great as well.
Their forth and fifth albums are more poppish and straightforward, but still overall GREAT.
Personally, i'd start with their fifth album and make your way backwards as that way you'd be able to get into their more awesome but less accessible stuff later on.
As for the band's 2003 EP, I never listened to it, but apparently that's good as well. And contains their cover of The Evil That Men Do.
Also, if you really like black metal, apparently the After Forever 90's demos were all straightup black metal before they decided to go a more gothic root, and eventually hire Floor Jansen.
And it's worth noting, that ANY band that has the balls to name itself after a Black Sabbath song has to be given props.

This :)
Very happy to hear Stolen Babies so much as mentioned here.
Saw Decapitated, Baroness, and Shug yesterday. So I guess here's a run down:
Decapitated first, played about 30 minutes. Mostly played songs off the last two albums, which I'm not a huge fan off. I didn't mind them playing new material, but the thing is, they played the old songs chuggier. Winds of Creation sounded almost exactly like the last two albums, and nothing like the original. New vocalist very needy in terms of audience action. They changed the solos, which weren't bad, but they all sounded the same.
Baroness second, stole the cake. Not really much criticism, and what criticism there is, it's mostly for the sound men. It took almost half the set for them to realise the drums were to loud, and you could barely hear the lower guitar notes. But other than that, amazing. My favorite part was the energy, the guys were fucking nuts. They had to constantly retune the guitars they were hitting the strings so hard. The new bassist didn't seem to be to impressed half the set. We made eye contact and headbanged while smiling, but beyond his little piece of stage, a tad isolated. Half way through he started playing in front of Baizley, and get more energy. Accidentally tasted his arm while he tried to say something in his ear. Only other complaint was the assholes behind me. Felt the need to talk during the best parts of the song. Squealed like pigs any time feedback came on.
New songs even better live, defiantly getting the new album.
Shug weren't bad by any means, but I think I can sum it all up with one word: chug.
Someone was smoking some pretty potent weed near me, as the smell alone got me a little buzz. There's all sorts of other cool stuff, but I'm to tired to post it all.
Another new discovery: Dawn of Solace. Awesome Gothic Doom metal
