Ulver - Providence

I hated it, and even though it pained me greatly to say it, I feel Ulver's finally sold out to the man. They got a nice fat juicy label contract with Ksound and they've turned into another poppy indie rock band.

I didn't know that. Why aren't they on Jester Records? Anyway, I loved it.

I just got back from seeing Arch / Matheos in Hartford, CT.

It was their only USA show, and their second show ever. (The first was at the Keep It True festival in April)

For those of you who don't know, Arch / Matheos's lineup is this:

Vocals - John Arch (Fates Warning)
Guitar - Jim Matheos (Fates Warning, OSI, Gordian Knot)
Guitar - Frank Aresti (Fates Warning)
Bass - Joey Vera (Armored Saint, Anthrax, OSI, Seven Witches)
Drums - Bobby Jarzombek (Halford, Riot, Sebastian Bach & Friends, Spastic Ink, Iced Earth)

So just from looking at the lineup, you know the group is great!

They played the 2011 album in entirety, all six songs. But they also played seven songs from the first three Fates Warning albums including but not limited to The Apparition, Guardian, Exodus and Epitaph.

It was INCREDIBLE.

Live video from their show at Keep It True, to give you guys an idea of how awesome last night was.

Wow, link fail.

That's exactly why there should be a post preview, so we can check our links before posting them...

I dunno, but it sounded too much like it was in the category of "shit my brother would avidly listen to if he knew about it" and that's just huge amounts of fail right there. I mean, it was expertly done -- and Garm *cough*excuse me*cough* Trickster G. *cough*excuse me*cough* God Head *cough*excuse me*cough* G. Rygg *cough*excuse me*cough* whatever always delivers on the singing, since he's such a talented singer, and the music was alright, but it reeked of being made for all the wrong reasons, and all the guest appearances had a stench of label interference and plugwhoring. Overall I found the guest appearances kinda diluted the product and made it sound way less original. Eh whatever.

Man, I still need to get their album and from the sounds of that show you went to, it does sound really good. I suppose despite the early leave, my fix with Hell and Primordial will keep me quiet for a while, even though there's still yet to be a decision for the Manilla Road show in London.

I'm gonna see 1349 and Marduk next month and Iron Maiden in August. :) I'm super amped about 1349 and Marduk. It'll be my girlfriend's first real black metal show, and it's going to be at the DNA Lounge in San Francisco, which is renowned for having a pit-friendly floor.

Hey dudes, it's been a LOOONG time since I posted here. But... check out this metal thing my friends and I did.

Hopefully we can get this started as a real band, but so far we're just messing with stuff like this.

Sympathetic Resonance is one of the greatest albums I've ever heard of in my life. I just hope they do more shows live

By Arch & Matheos, I just saw them on Saturday. :)

Also, this is Storm Corrosion - the new project of Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth) and Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree) <333

It's not metal, but it sure is amazing.

So this is the long awaited side project of theirs. Judging from that song, it was worth the wait. Of course, I'll need to hear the rest of the tracks but I do like how there was real thought put into the music video. Something that seems very rare these days.

He bought a little shriner statuette. I figured it was gonna be shriner/freemason related. He should have bought that giraffe skull, though.

The Storm Corrosion album is damn good but I'm gonna need to listen to it a lot to truly adapt to all six tracks.

At 5/8/12 11:50 PM, Sense-Offender wrote: coming next month...oh yes...

The next few months are looking good for metal. This month has new Sonata Arctica (quite weary about this), Burzum, Firewind and Grand Magus. June has Candlemass, Kreator, Fear Factory, Luca Turilli's Rhapsody (also weary) and OMEN! Then we have Baroness and Rush in July (May for Japan and June for everywhere else but it's a stupid magazine exclusive in the UK until July). There's a lot to look forward to for sure and at least from here I expect the year to speed up a bit for music releases.

based on the previews, looks pretty bad. Boring, and the vocals scream buttrock. They aren't choral like they were in the previous two, and they weren't Alice in Chains (though they never did fit) like in the first preview. I have to say it, one of my fav doom bands may fall from grace.

Has anybody heard Aborym's Psychogrotesque? It came out when I was locked up, and when I heard it I came to the conclusion that Aborym still kicks insane amount of ass. It has a really good blend of industrial and black metal, and even though it has a few new elements, it still works out pretty good. Also, it's a concept album, although I am not exactly sure what the story is.

Let's not forget about new Gojira. The new single they released is fucking awesome. Hopefully i'll catch them live when they pass through the UK next month.

I'm really pumped for the new Voivod album, which should be released in fall or winter. But the new song they played live was great and a lot thrashier than they've been doing lately, but still staying very proggy.

I missed that one seeing as I'm not too big on them but I could give the new album a shot.

Keep in mind that I've yet to explore beyond the first few albums of theirs. Never really got anywhere apart from War and Pain and the music video for Ravenous Medicine. That shit is still fucking hilarious.
