Hmm, an interesting opportunity just fell into my inbox this afternoon. For the princely sum of £17.50, I can gain access to Wulfrun Hall, Wolverhampton on the 30th of September, to see DragonForce and Alestorm.

Not particularly good when live speed metal (at least before this new vocalist), coupled with drunken (?) Scottish pirate metal. I could be in for a treat.

I believe that on the 5th of October, the same lineup is heading to the Manchester Academy, Bahamut, if you're interested.

OK Haggard, I've given Victory and Rogues en Vogue at least once playthrough and I will say that they are generally bad. I only found one song from Rogues en Vogue to really stand out while everything else is bland. Shame I have to say that about The War but that song ended up being all disjointed. So yes, Running Wild indeed ran out of ideas in the end and Shadowmaker isn't helping anything!

Already saw Alestorm live and to see DragonForce as the main act, I'll pass on that.

You'd be crazy if you didn't go.

Yes, this years line up is amazing. Almost better than last year when Matt Barlow was on his last tour. I sure do hope the weather will be a lot better this year, though. Last year we had hail! This was definitely a premier on a festival...

16:15 - 17:10 GIRLSCHOOL
17:40 - 18:40 MAGNUM
19:45 - 21:00 UNISONIC
21:30 - 23:00 W.A.S.P.
Go just for Unisonic, but Sunday is killer!

Hm, I'm not much into Helloween, so I don't think Unisonic are a band I would enjoy. On Sunday I only want to see Graveyard, after that I'm ready do go home again. But my friend wants to see W.A.S.P. . Hmm....

I'm sure Hell will be worth seeing as well, even if they've unleashed one of the cheesiest metal music videos ever made.

It's not just the cheesy video, the music they play also... isn't very good. ;)
Also, you have to get something to eat at some point during the day, right?

Tomorrow (or Wednesday) I should recieve my order from amazon. Sadly I didn't order any new albums. But I got Master of Reality and Paranoid. I guess I will then skip forward in the discography to Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and then Heaven and Hell. After that I can concentrate on a different band.
Vol. 4 is still worth listening to but has some oddballs to it. I would say you're safe with getting everything from debut album to Mob Rules excluding Technical Ecstasy and Never Say Die.

Maybe I will do that later. But I think I'm good with Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Heaven and Hell next time, plus a third album from a different band. I guess Alice in Hell from Annihilator would be my next pick. On the other hand: My wife already has that album, but only a burned copy she got from her sister. Maybe I will go for some more Priest? Oh man, who would've thought that buying CDs can be so tough?

More stuff I've been looking into. Not sure why but I never really checked out Enslaved until recently. I had intentions to try them out but it was only yesterday I listened to Axioma Ethica Odini and I'm really blown away from this, especially when starting off with Ethica Odini. Can't get enough of that song right now! The other album I've heard online is Kalmah's 12 Gauge. Also good stuff. I don't know why I take my time with great discoveries.

Maybe you should try the old demos. The special edition of the album comes with both the 2011 recordings as well as the old demo and single tracks they had from the 80s. Both using the same songs but with different textures due to what they sounded like then and now.

Also, you have to get something to eat at some point during the day, right?

Try right after a band finishes? Then again, many would have their mind set to grab something to eat during those times.

Certainly made good choices there.

Next up: Manowar. Oh wait, that already happened the moment Joey DeMaio shitted on London's show. Man, we gotta find something new to argue about.

Oh, and if you think about checking out X-Wild and/or Toxic Taste: Don't waste your time! Those really aren't worth it.

Let me guess, Running Wild-like bands?

Look at the times. Often it's only 20 minutes between two bands. Hardly enough to get out of the stage area, to the snack stand, grab something and go back into the stage area again. Also, snack stands are too expensive to eat there every time.

X-Wild are former members of Running Wild (That's why they are called "Ex-Wild") but they disbanded in the 90's I think. Toxic Taste is another of Rolf's projects.

Actually, the new stuff is reusing older songs since they never had the luck to release an album back then.

Yeah, I looked up X-Wild but Metal-Archives found nothing for Toxic Taste. Would have thought there'd have been an addition for it just because it's a side project.

I think it's going to be lame...

The whole project to me just looks like a cheesy generic power metal project but with good vocals and some interresting every now and then, but without any interresting song structures or new approach to the genre.

But hey, maybe I'm just pessimistic. The album could be good. We need to hear the whole thing. But just like you Bahamut, I'm not too excited about it.

Because it's Melodic Death Metal?

I gave it a shot and it's a really dull album. At least now I can lose all excitement for that odd chance of Keeper lineup reuniting because if Michael Kiske and Kai Hansen join forces and write something this uninspiring, that's not a good sign. However, I wouldn't be surprised if Kiske had a bigger input on this album than Kai did.

Because it's Melodic Death Metal?

Could be. Melodeath is one that I pay very little attention to but then again, same can be said for death and black metal in general. Still missing out on plenty of classics from both genres.

Listen to Russian Circles too then.

Also What We All Come To Need by Pelican is just a fantastic album start to finish, full of crushing riffs and great soundscapes. Like I said, when they play them live as well they are just earth shattering, not even comparable to the record.

One of my favorite albums of all time, easily. Scale the Summit takes the cake for instrumental bands for me though.

I've given the new Accept album. It's alright but it would be a lot better if the album doesn't feel like it crashes down to generic writing after track 5, although the last track performs well. The highlight is by far the title track which is what they released to promote the album...

I know Job for a Cowboy is probably taboo here, but I listened to a bit to the latest album, and it's not bad. They've come a long way considering they started out as one of the most hated deathcore bands. Killing off most commercial opportunities and changing your genre is never an easy thing to do.

I should get that soon. I've had a look at my total listings for my CDs and it turns out I'm three away from 777. From the looks of things, my 777th CD will be Saint Vitus' new album. I actually said to myself that I'd start really considering all of my personal favourites for riffs, solos and intro pieces but despite listening to over 600 metal albums already, I still feel there's more to be discovered.

Have you guys heard Meshuggah's latest album, Koloss? What do you think?

It's probably one of my least favorite Meshuggah albums. In fact, the only song I usually listen to from this album is the opener, I Am Colossus. The sound is so huge on this song, so truly colossal, it gives me goosebumps. Do Not Look Down and Demiurge are the other songs that I kind of enjoy from this album. The rest of the songs simply don't interest me for some reason, which is odd, because I enjoy just about everything Meshuggah has done so far. I don't know what is "wrong" with this new album for me, but there is something.

It made more sense in my head.
