If there's one thing I appear to have absolutely nothing of apart from one album, it's a band who generally mixes black metal with doom. Katatonia's Dance of December Souls shows a magnificent blend of black and doom so if there's more who can perform that well, I'd like to know them.

I'm just glad I have a friend who is into the music that I like. Kinda felt out of place with my music with everyone else I know prior to meeting him. :P Recently I've known a few others who are into metal. One even has quite a Black Sabbath vinyl collection and if you have the rarer stuff on vinyl, that's quite a lot of jelly from me.
Agalloch will be releasing an EP named Faustian Echoes very soon. I can't express how excited I am with these good news. This is what they had to say about the EP on their Facebook page :
"Agalloch have completed the recording of their forthcoming EP entitled âEUoeFaustian EchoesâEU. With acclaimed engineer Billy Anderson at the helm, the band recorded a 20 minute long conceptual and colossal track live onto two-inch tape. The recording took place at Jackpot Studio in Portland, Oregon during March 24th-25th. A release date has yet to be set, but we will keep you all updated through our official Facebook page. This EP will appear on both LP and CD. We have made a photo album of photos taken by Veleda Thorsson of this session."

I feel kind of bad watching this. I can't believe he didn't just leave in the middle of the interview... This "interviewer" as to be mentally challenged...
Was ready to laugh off at the new songs from DragonForce but found myself to be loving Cry Thunder a lot. They actually hooked me from the very start and for a band that I expected to crash and burn for good at this point, this is a huge surprise. I'll listen to the rest of the album, though incase I'm just being delusional with the one song.

Maybe the fact that they try to be a real Power Metal band on this one, rather than a wank-fest/shred/cheesy-power metal band... makes this a little more memorable. Working on the song-writting also kind of help. Not to make a bad comparison, but these guys used to be as formulaic as Ke$ha and Katy Perry in their song-writting. Adding a little more diversity on that record might help them. I don't have high hopes, but a good album by DragonForce would be appreciated :)

I live in the deep red area.
I live in an orange area (Germany). It's all right, I guess. Too bad bands like Running Wild are among those metal bands, haha.

One thing for sure, the album has a whole toned down on the wankfest and shredding. There's much less padding in this one and there's actually some diversity. You might find some of them to be your typical DragonForce songs but shorter. However, songs like Cry Thunder, Give Me The Night and Die By The Sword are very refreshing songs for them. Only one song actually goes beyond the 6 minute mark and that's Wings Of Liberty. OK, if there's one thing they haven't changed, it's lazy, uninspired song titles but we're here to listen to the music itself.

I won't hold a grudge for that but I think making a comparison with a rock band who are heavily formulaic like AC/DC would make more sense. Their musical style hardly developed throughout.

Are you implying that Running Wild isn't any good?
Also, I think your country has lots of awesome bands. Klabautamann is one of my favorite black metal bands ever.
I'm listening to a bit of the new Dragonforce album too, it's not bad, but not that good. Dragonforce have the potential to be a very good, if they changed a few things. The VG sounds were cool and interesting the first 2 times, but now they've gotten real stale. Drop em'. They also seem to suffer the fate of many Tech-Death bands of putting too many solos in and using too much lead in the riffing/rhythm playing. Some more bass presence would do em' good. Lastly, I know it's power metal, but some more chord changes would do them great good.
And Iove how the new singer only says "so far away" once, kind of like a tribute to the old singer.

I'm implying that Running Wild should've stopped after Port Royal or at least after Death or Glory. After that, they only released the same album over and over again, just with different titles. Worst of all has to be "Victory" with one "Angelo Sasso" credited for drums.
And just when you think Rolf finally understood that he's just a shadow of his former self, he announces to continue Running Wild with an album called "Shadowmaker" which credits someone named "Der Kaltverformer" (literally "The cold deformer". So either he's very cold and deforms things, or he deforms the coldness itself... interesting) for drums.

Yes, I heard about them. They seem to be pretty cool, but I haven't listen to that much stuff from them. However, if you like german black metal you should check out earlier stuff from Eisregen.

And yet they have lessened with the solos in comparison to other albums but whether the level of them could still be lowered is up to you.

Was there ANY bass presence on their previous works? I caught a few on this one which is more than what I can say about the previous albums.

They were actually alright with The Brotherhood. However, Victory and Rogues en Vogue I have yet to hear and I'm not sure about giving Shadowmaker a shot either. I may have to try it out and possibly tear it apart if it really is bad. The sample sounds uninspiring enough and apparently it gets worse.

Well, critics say that Rouges en Vogue is better than The Brotherhood (which also features Angelo Sasso) and Victory, but this isn't really an achievement. The production quality on Rouges en Vouge is relatively bad, though.
Oh yeah, and I have to correct my statement: Running Wild should've released Port Royal and then Black Hand Inn and then they should've stopped. >_>
Have any of you guys heard of a Russian Thrash Metal band called Aspid? I just got their album, at it has kicked me in the balls repeatedly. This is awesome.

I would recommend listening to Welcome to Hell, title track, Siberian Winter and The Ghost. Good stuff from The Brotherhood. I'll be amazed if Rouges en Vogue is actually better than this since I'd be able to listen to that.

Believe it or not, I actually have all the Running Wild albums on my Hard Drive (one of my friends is a huge Running Wild fan, so he gave them to me; but even my friend admits that Running Wild should've disbanded after Black Hand Inn, lol) and I listened to all of them. So my opinion about Running Wild is not just some uneducated ranting, haha.

Pile of Skulls is just like a cover version of the other albums. One critic -while reviewing this album- wrote: "If you want to carp about Running Wild you could say the write the same song over and over again for 5 years. But if you want to view things positively you could say that they have a unique style, which is honed on every album."
Especially with the first sentence I can only agree. I think I said it before, but you could take any song from almost any Running Wild album and throw them together on a mix tape. Nobody would get the idea that all the songs are taken from different albums. Some might say that this is "quality", but I say that it is uninspired bullshit.
Now, don't get me wrong. Running Wild does have some good albums (Black Hand Inn and Under Jolly Roger, for example), but there really isn't any noticable progress in style or songwriting on their albums. And this is why I pick on Running Wild so often. ^^
LOL are you guys still playing guitar? that is so passe
