I'll never remember how I came across it, but it changed my views on metal. I had never heard anything so slow, so fucking doom.

Viper50 just sent it to me. I will start start listenning to it right away. If I can't do it all today, I'll do it tomorrow.

And tell me, how do you think Amplifier Worship ranks compared to Absolutego?

I know it's an overdone topic, but what is the superior Megadeth album? Rust in Peace or Peace Sells? Of course, the other albums are good (So Far.. is a gem), but these are the ones of most debate. It's hard for me to decide. The cleanliness of Rust in Peace is both it's greatest accomplice and enemy for me. Peace Sells just has that dirty thrash feeling that RiP lacks. But then again, the uniqueness is what makes RiP great.

I would have to pick Rust In Peace over Peace Sells. Rust In Peace feels just perfect to me. Peace Sells has it's own great moments but more less memorable bits than RiP. I wouldn't say that the best tracks from RiP are better than Peace Sells best tracks though, but rather that as a whole, RiP is better.

What I mean is the heavy use of I. I know it's stating things from your personal views but reviews tend to work better if they were kept to a minimum. I won't say avoid using it altogether since it's fine from time to time, just not when it appears to be the most commonly used word. Not saying your review was bad but if there was one suggestion, that's what I had in mind.

It could be my bias, but Amp Worship is way better to me. I believe drone is better used as a trait rather than a means to an end. Absolutego is good, but Amp Worship has way more variation, isn't completely comprised of drone/repitition, and lets just say, is more magical (you'll understand when you listen).

Amplifier Worship is better, Absolutego being a 1 hour + drone song isn't really as easy to get into either. Also your user icon is the same as my profile image. Also i'm disturbed to see Boris talk with no mention of their best album, Feedbacker (not that every Boris album isn't stupendously good).

I have Absolutego, but I only listened to it once, maybe twice. It didn't do much for me. However, this is coming from someone who isn't much into drone and only rarely listens to it. And it's usually only while I'm high and there's nobody around so I can blast it and feel the vibration while I lie down and stare at the ceiling, though when I do that, it's usually more drony sludge stuff like Ufommamut.

Speaking of which, the new Ufomammut album comes out April 13th, the same day my best friend comes back from school of infantry.

The title of that song is just perfect, isn't it?

meh. I wasn't that into Feedbacker, either. Maybe I'll give it another chance at some point. I think their best albums are Pink, Pink II, and Heavy Rocks. Altar and Amplifier Worship were also great. And Akuma no Uta was quite good.

Depending on the realease, they span quite a few. Stoner rock, J-Pop, Noise-Rock, Hardcore, Drone-Doom, just to name a few.

If you like drone, I'd pick Amp. Worship. If you're a drone veteran, try Flood, Absolutego, and the Merzbow/SunnO))) collabs as well. If you like stoner rock, try Heavy Rocks, Pink, and Akuma no Uta.

I think I'd settle down for the stoner rock efforts. Would try j-pop from them for laughs.

The "racketeering" and "money laundering" parts especially made me think so.

I don't think there are much people who make extensive listenning of Drone or Drone/Doom. To fully appreciate the music you have to play it loud, do nothing else so you can be in the good state of mind to listen to it and relax. Plus, you have to be in the good mood to enjoy such music and you need to be willing to listen to music for an extended period of time, since Drone really is more appreciable when you immerse yourself in the music.

So I didn't give more than three listens to Absolutego, yet I think it's a Drone masterpiece.

Haha! I was about to point that out :P

At 4/1/12 09:07 AM, Zodir wrote: I've never listened to Boris. What genre are they and what should I start with?

Their music ranges from Dreampop to Stoner Rock/Metal and from Sludge to Drone/Doom.

Absolutego
Amplifier Worship
Flood

are some of their heavy, slow, sludgey and droning albums. By the way, they also released a Drone Doom album with Sunn O))) named Altar. Amazing release :)

Heavy Rocks
Pink
Akuma No Uta

are more on the Stoner Rock/Stoner Metal side.

I do not really know their more "pop" oriented albums all that well, so I won't pronounce myself on those.

So have you guys seen that neato world map that shows how many Metal bands there are per 100,000 people per country? I'd post it, but I'm on my phone right now.

It's quite rare that I meet legitimate metal fans outside of gigs in the UK. Usually people who claim they like metal over here don't actually like metal at all (e.g. they listen exclusively to bands like slipknot and avenged sevenfold).
