Haha, i'm from Brazil, so i can't go whach the show... Damn. --'
Neurosis is awesome, but there will be cool shows in Brazil as well.
Pearl Jam and Aerosmith already made their shows here this year (even tough they're not metal), also, there will be Versailles' show soon (yes, i like J-visual Kei too).

I hope Angra make another show soon, and Almah too.

I was going to mention this. I don't know Neurosis very well, but I was just listening to the stuff they did with Jarboe the other day, coincidentally, and it's really good. Jarboe's own music can be hit and miss, though, but she has some good stuff as well. I feel the same way about Swans.

They're one band I like to see live providing they don't play too much from Aqua. I can stand Arising Thunder but everything else from it is some of the most boring material I've ever heard in heavy metal. I really don't get the praise for it.

It's a good thing they allowed you to try it online before buying it.

Yeah, no kidding. When the first preview came out, I was saying "The full song will be better!" then when the full song came out, I was saying "This is just one song! The rest of the album will be better!" Then they streamed the whole thing, and I wasn't saying anything. I was just sitting there in a state of bitter disappointment.

That'll teach me to get my hopes up!

Scale the Summit - The Collective

Start with this one, it's definitely worth it. Scale The Summit is always fantastic both on record and live. One of the tracks really stands out for me and it's also the longest on the record. The name is Black Hills. If you have just one track to listen from this album, it has to be this one. That's not to say the whole thing isn't great though. But Black Hills is definitely my favorite on the album.

Animals As Leaders is just awesome.

To be fair, what were you expecting from a collaboration effort with Lou Reed and Metallica. Have you seen all those lame comic crossovers? Same thing, really.

Well I didn't know that but that's mostly because I haven't dived into them and found out what they're like. I constantly hear about Animals As Leaders.

Did you write the wrong word or misread his post?

Anyway, AAL is awesome. I wonder if Tosin Abasi has a solo project or has done any guest work.

AAL was his solo project.

Which is why I can't like that band as much as you guys do. It feels too much like a solo project. They put way too much emphasis on the guitar parts while the drums and bass are only there to support the guitar. Yeah, I know the bass and drums play some technical and/or cool riffs, but they always have a support role and never stand in front. Not a bad project, but compared to other instrumental projects like Blotted Science or Scale the Summit, it really doesn't do much for me.

Response to Metal Hell 2011-12-03 10:41:35

I should probably listen to some stuff by Scale the Summit on Youtube that isn't from the album I have, which is Monument. The last time I listened to it, I thought it was only slightly better than mediocre compared to other instrumental prog projects, aside from the first track, which was great. I was told by somebody here that Monument is the weakest album of theirs. I may listen to Monument again soon, too.

Monstrous cover of Meshuggahs's Catch Thirtythree.

Just saw Cathedral on their final show. They played many great songs such as Vampire Sun, Midnight Mountain, North Berwick Witch Trials, Funeral of Dreams, Autumn Twilight and finished it off with Hopkins (The Witchfinder General). Bonus points for the show for having Grand Magus as support act (as well as two others but they were better by far). Easily the best band I've seen as support act yet.

Really enjoying the album Thundersteel by Riot.. It's on the same level as the classic works of Iron Maiden and Judas Priest.

That time, I forgot about the Australian show. They shouldn't have kept calling it Cathedral's final ever show when they're playing in Australia in a few months time.

I listened to their newest album and found it to be really good. I've asked Thundersteel for Christmas but will consider getting more of Riot's albums later on, especially Narita.

These are BY FAR my favorite of all the albums you listed. The only one you listed I haven't listened to is the new AAL, which I didn't even know there was.

Also, the new Vektor album is fucking amazing.

BUT ANYWAY, BITCHES LISTEN UP.

Symphony X is doing a poll a day for eight days: Each poll is "favorite songs off *insert album here* AND based off the results of all these polls, Symphony X is going to get together and "with much thought decide upon which songs they shall be playing over the next year and a half. As well decide what are some songs that might be good to pull out on special occasions"

So ANYONE who is a fan of Symphony X, take this as your chance to have your voice be heard:

Iconoclast poll.
Paradise Lost poll.
The Odyssey poll.

The other five albums/polls will be released over the next five days. I'll link them when they're posted.

There's no way to directly view the results of the polls, I don't think, BUT based off the SX facebook page:
"At the moment, the top 3 Iconoclast songs are still Iconoclast, When All is Lost, and Electric Messiah. The top 3 Paradise Lost songs are Paradise Lost, Set the World on Fire, and in third is a tie between Revelation and The Walls of Babylon. The Odyssey is in the lead in today's setlist poll, followed closely by Accolade II... have you voted yet?"

So yeah, any Symphony X fans - go nuts. I know I am. ;D

I can't listen to Cathedral because I find the vocals hilariously bad. Am I the only one who thinks so?
