Seing how you hate all Death Metal that isn't Old-School Death Metal, I really wasn't expecting you to like this.

Not really, I don't have a fetish for everything pre-2000s. It's just a majority of the fucking good shit was made in the late 80s and 90s. Not to mention I don't pay attention to most modern DM. Anyway, here's a few modern DM bands I like: Hooded Menace, Cretacious, Miasmal, Excoriate, Dead Congregation.

Pretty much what I said :P

You don't like Modern Death Metal. So if you don't like what we could call "regular" Modern Death Metal like Cannibal Corpse, I'm pretty sure you don't like Tech Death and Brutal Death or Death/Grindcore.

To back up that claim: Roger fucking Ebert. He's one of the most well known critics yet he hasn't made a single film himself. I actually admire that since it shows you don't need to be an expert at songwriting to review an album.

Also, he tends to be pretty much right, from what I've seen, with a few exceptions. For example, he actually gave Mulhholland Drive a good review. All the critics are in a stupid circle jerk over that shitty movie. At least you see Laura Haring and Naomi Watts naked and making out (I especially appreciate the sight of Laura).

I feel stupid now... I never listenned to much more than two albums by them. I don't know why... I loved Damage Done, but I bought it when I was a teenager. Back then, I didn't have a lot of money to spend on albums and didn't had any good download program or website. I loved the album, but never got to listen to much more from them. I guess I will have to listen to those to tell you if they are worth it.

I suppose I should just listen to them myself right there but I'm in no rush for any melodeath. I really listen to so little of it that I somehow forgot my huge lack of enthusiasm for the subgenre.

I don't know much about movies and I haven't seen that film so I can't make any agreements. As reviewers, there's bound to be disagreements with certain opinions. That's why I give so little of a shit about negative reviews on MA these days.

Although they are fairly popular, does anybody like Septic Flesh? I finally listened to them yesterday, and I must say they are pretty amazing. I love atonal classical music, so the "breakdown" in this (I don't know what else to call it, transition maybe) makes me cum buckets. Does anybody know of more, so say, Atmospheric Death Metal bands?

Just out of curiosity, which Darkthrone era do you guys think was best? Death Metal, Black Metal, or Crust (or whatever)? And in what order (greatest to least) do you like them? For me it's:

Death Metal
Black Metal
Crust (simply because the vocals are so damn cheesy)

We really haven't discussed the new Dream Theater's drummer yet. Mike Mangini is a great drummer. Yet, we've only heard one track from the upcoming album of Dream Theater. Will it be any good? I'm talking about the album as a whole, yes. But focusing on the drumming, do you think it will be anywhere as good as what Mike Portnoy did with the band?

Even though it wasn't fantastic, it will probably be good. Based off the song I heard, I really like how Rudess is a bit more of a background instrument, yet still manages to impress, and the progressive rock lean is pretty cool. Other than that, I don't see much in it. The guitar work is obviously good, but we've heard it all before. The intro guitar was really good though. Myung is decent when audible, but I thinks he's still too low in the mix. As for Mangina, I can barely tell that he's a new drummer. He just sounds like a more groove oriented Portnoy. I'm hoping he can actually do something that will make him distinct.

Even if I don't buy this, my prog-freak uncle will, and I'll give it a listen.

But focusing on the drumming, do you think it will be anywhere as good as what Mike Portnoy did with the band?

Based off the track, no. In the said track, Mike would have used more variation and done better and more plentiful fills. That, and Mike pretty much was Dream Theatre. Sure you can replace him, but Mike had a crazy sound that fit Theatre, and a personality to match. Even if they sound similar, it just isn't the same.

Get back motherfucker, a homage/ripoff from the end of Gardenia.

I actually looked up these guys the other week after hearing Jerry Was A Race Car Driver on a flash movie. I actually remember this song on Tony Hawk's Skateboarding, lol. Of course, you all will recommend more stuff from them but hopefully Sailing the Seas of Cheese is a good starting point. I've heard samples for most of the songs and it sounds dynamic. It seems they won't be full on with heavy tracks like they did for Train of Thought and Systematic Chaos. Maybe it won't be a strong contender for best metal album of 2011 but I'm expecting a good release anyway.

I meant of 00's Theatre. Some of the songs Portnoy wrote were vastly superior to some of Petrucci's songs. Then again, I haven't listened to much 00's Theatre, so I can't say. Overall, I've always thought Dream Theatre was kind of a sub-par prog band.

OKAY MY KAMELOT/ALESTORM/BLACKGUARD/THE AGONIST REVIEW IS UP!

And something I forgot to mention was that I was very disappointed in the fact of their 18(or 15, if you don't count the long solos) songs they played they only played two songs off their latest album.

I actually really enjoy Poetry For The Poisoned and wish they played more off it, I felt as if they should've played the self-titled song in entirety for the encore since they had simone with them on tour in the first place. Or at least House On The Hill, or some other kamelot song OTHER then the haunting. Oh well.

At 9/1/11 05:25 PM, greensucksbluerules wrote: Yeah, that's what most people know them from. I know them because they did the South Park theme.

A lot of people know them outside their guest appearences, they also were in one of the bill and ted movies and Metallica does like a four minute Les Claypool cocksuck on one of their many documentaries about how if they knew he'd go on to form "the legendary primus" they would've hired him instead of Jason. (Because Les was one of the like four bassists who they had audition for Metallica after cliff died)

Primus was huge in the early 90's because of the grunge movement and even, to an extent, because of the remaining metal movement.

I recommend starting with Frizzle Fry. That has some awesome tracks, including a song Korn stole the riff from.

Eh, all of their first four albums are amazing in my book. Haha And I never knew that about the korn thing.
