From post-Blackwater Park, I prefer Ghost Reveries.

And Ghost Reveries is my second favourite album by them.

Tonight I will be discovering a few bands. I'm planning a cool music exploration night :)

Starting with the band Orbs. Which is, a supergroup including some of the members of Between The Buried And Me. So it's going to be either... fucking great, or a terrible post-hardcore chugfest. Then I will listen to the band Deals Death. I can't say I'm expecting much from this. It's a melodic death metal band. I think it's going to be a generic band, but I need to listen to make a good opinion. Then I will listen to Ephel Duath, which is a progressive metal/avant-garde... mixed with jazz elements. I really don't know what to expect. Again, it's going to be either very good, or fucking terrible. Next comes the band Lesbian. I've heard very good comments on them in the Metal Hell. I'm excpecting to get my mind blown away. Last bu not least, I will finally listen to the Awake album by Dream Theater. I've been quite a big fanboy of the Images And Words album for a long time, but I feel that now I should learn a little more about Dream Theater.

TL;DR Tonight I listen to Orbs, Ephel Duath, Dream Theater, Lesbian and Deals Death.

Just got back from Maiden's show in Manchester and it was a fantastic one, even though the support act was utter shit (they were Airbourne). At least Maiden made up with their own show and provided a solid setlist. They played all the better tracks on the latest album and the fact that I didn't hear Run to the Hills or Can I Play With Madness made it better. Maybe they could have been on stage longer (it was only two hours) but overall, I'm satisfied, even if I had to put up with listening to a bunch of clowns plagiarizing AC/DC. Despite my enjoyment, it doesn't beat Judas Priest's show from the other week.

So, Bruce, do you know any other prog-ish black metal or "blackened-something" metal bands with good, memorable riffs? I still haven't gotten tired of Klabautamann since you introduced me to them like a year ago.

Also, if anybody knows of any good bands that are on the heavier, more "extreme" side of progressive metal, I'd like to know, especially if there's some good harsh vocals.

I didn't care for Ephel Duath when I first listened to them a few years ago, but I dig them now. I have at least 3 of their albums.

Next comes the band Lesbian.

finally. They're so good. Get Power Hor first. It's super badass. Stratosferia Cubensis is also good, though.

I will finally listen to the Awake album by Dream Theater.

dude....what? the first time? That's one of their 3 best albums ever.

If you haven't listened to Edge of Sanity - Crimson, I highly suggest it. The album contains only one song of around 40 minutes long.
You can actually listen to the full thing on one youtube video.

Anyone who complains about going to concerts alone is a pussy.

Sure, having friends or a date to go with can be cool but the reason you should be going to a concert is MUSIC. Not company.

I've gone to countless shows alone in the past, I never had a problem. And it's always good to meet people.

You're surrounded by people who might get drunk and start hitting on you. Or you could get caught in a mosh with people you don't know.

They were happy drunks, they wanted to give me high fives. And there was no mosh.

Rock Hard Festibal 2011 - Some live footage there, for anyone of you who is interested. The site is in german, but I think it's pretty obvious what to do there. XD

Live footage includes:
Down, Anacrusis, Bullet, Vicious Rumors, Amorphis, Epica, Atlantean Kodex, Metal Inquisitor, Morgoth, Iced Earth

In between are some interviews, some in english, some in german. But they aren't that interesting anyway. ^^

Ah, I was suspecting the problem would be that I like Morningrise lots but little of Orchid. I dunno about you but I think there's some inconsistency there. I hope you understand my thoughts on their first two albums.

Clearly you didn't read my previous post or AllMightyBruce's.

Speaking of Metal-Archives, their review moderation system sucks balls. I submitted my review on Monday and it's still pending yet they've taken care of a bunch of reviews that were posted after mine. It's not the first time that's happened and it's only discouraging when they keep putting my reviews on the backburner. I'm sure others get similar issues as well.

The whole of Fleshgod Apocalypse's upcoming album has been leaked. It's a very solid album overall, they did go a bit overboard with the keyboards though IMO.

They're playing 70 tons of metal next year. So far they're the only band on the lineup I haven't at least listened to.

But I hope the rest of the unannounced bands suck, purely because I doubt i'll have the funds to go again next year. :(

No. When I go to the movies, it's to be with people. If I cared about a movie, i'd watch it on the internet on my own.

You can't do that with concerts. You SHOULD go for the music.

I went on a Motorhead binge a few days back and it was awesome. Usually my interest is in oldschool punk and skinhead stuff, but Motorhead have always been high up in my ranks. This got me in the mood for some more metal so I decided to try a band that I haven't spent much time listening to in the past; Black Label Society.

God damn it they are awesome and I literally can't stop listening to them now. For the last few days they've come close to being the only band I've played. I've yet to come across one of their songs that I dislike and seeing as they do a fair bit of acoustic and even pieces that make strong use of a piano, this surprised me. Acoustic guitars are something that I generally don't favour, but BLS pull it off.

I love these guys and I just have to let it be known.

They've gotten a lot lighter as they've gone on, What We All Come To Need had loads of nice dreamy parts about it.
