You guys need to listen to this awesome Black Metal band from Quebec. They are called Forteresse, and they make some of the most awesome Black Metal I have heard.

Btw, they are not a Canadian Black Metal band. They are a Quebecian Nationalist Black Metal band :)

Yeah, I just got it as well and I'm really digging it. Did you get the single disc or two disc version? I got the two disc version and it is EPIC. From what I've heard, that's the version that the band wanted to be the main version, but the label wanted a single disc version.

I've got From Chaos to Eternity, but I haven't got round to listening to it yet. I'll get Iconoclast when I get the chance.

I honestly haven't been listening to much Metal at all recently. Don't know why.

Iconoclast is cool. not great, but it has some really good tracks. some are not as good. And Heavy Rocks II is quite good. I still haven't listened to Jordplus and I've only listened to a bit of Last Rites so far. I'm listening to the Glowsun album I got right now.

Glowsun is really good.

Fun fact: The Ramones CD had TWO identical booklets. Anyone here who needs one? ^^

Actually I'd argue that technically the first album of QOTSA was the Kyuss/Qotsa split EP, and not the self titled.

And fun fact: the dog from the cover of the AIC album's name was Tripod.

I got the two disc edition as well since I wanted all the tracks (duh). I can't see why anyone should get the standard disc edition when the special one is the right tracklisting for the album. A lot of good stuff can be heard here, although some riffs do give you a deja vu.

Well said, Batman. Like a true G(rand daddy).
Anyways, I've been listening to a lot of Hypocrisy lately, as well as lots of Faith No More, Queens of the Stone Age, Priestess, Tomahawk, Mr. Bungle and Tool.

I saw Thor in 3d the other Day. Fucking metal movie. So epic. AND me and my friends who were all stoned as shit were the only 4 people in the theater.

I would like some suggestions of good stoner metal now that I'm actually in a position to be downloading music again.
Just turned 20, shit's aight. Not particularly exciting.

word.
Bout to get blunted then go watch the Green Lantern in 3d.
Peace out yalls.

What do you peeps think a good length for a CD should be? I pefer my CD to be bewtween 30-45 mins. Unless we are talking about Acid Bath with both CDs being 70+ mins. Seriously any CD thats an hour or longer better be tits. Also song lengths I like about 3- 6 mins. anything that is 7 mins better be a master piece. I hate songs that would've worked better as a shorter song. (Vital Remains Icon of evil CD......which fails in song length and CD length)

Album lenght? I'd say 35 to 80 minutes. It doesn't matter if it's very lenghty. But too short is too short.
Song lenght? I'd say it depends of the genre. Grindcore tracks are usually pretty short. Bands like Benighted can make 2-5 minutes tracks, and that's alright. But bands like Austere, Agalloch, Wolves In The Throne Room, Symphony or DT make good 6 to 15 minutes tracks. Anything above 16 minutes really needs to be a good progressive track. If you make long track just for the lulz, it's annoying. The album Octavarium is a great DT album, but the track that I like the least on the record is the self-titled track. It's 20 minutes long, but I don't like it. After 7 minutes... I start wondering where the track is going.

I like long tracks, but yeah, anything longer then 16 minutes, like I said... better be progressive and well-structured, otherwise... fuck long tracks.

Btw, talking about song lenght. I was actually surprised when Antithesis by Origin came out, because the title track is actually quite long for a Death Metal track. And it's not a prog death band, like you guys know, but strangly, it's one of the greatest DM tracks I have in my library :)

I hate it when there's a long track, but several minutes are taken up by padding noise such as the wind blowing. So stupid.

I can relate to this. I felt the album closer for Moonsorrow's Verisakeet (i.e. Kaiku) could be much better without the crackling noise that goes on for four minutes. That's half of the track wasted on that. I would have been OK if it was just a minute but four? That's just padding. Shame it does that since the song itself is a great closer for the album.

I find that classic heavy metal (late 60's early 70's) annihilates all other metal groups.
Black Sabbath

Judas Priest
this is the true manifestation of pure metal.

That's not a bad start but if you're looking to join this group, you'll need to name seven other metal bands.

Okay so I listened to a lot of albums while I was on my mandatory BBS vacation and three of them were some of the most mind melting metal i've heard so far.

First was In the Nightside Eclipse by Emperor. I was really tentative coming into this one because I had been trying to find more good Black Metal but nothing seemed to fit so I kept at it and decided to take a shot on Emperor. Needless to say I was blown away by how awesome this album was. I find it's best as the sum of its parts but there are certainly tracks that stand out like Towards The Pantheon and Into the Infinity of Thoughts. Every song sounds like a sort of final statement, a huge crescendo that happens again and again. Definitely going to be looking more into Emperor for my Black Metal needs.

Next came an album I had been meaning to listen to for a while and only just got around to Keeper of the Seven Keys (Part 2) by Helloween. I was going to start with Part 1 but Part 2 was the first one I found so I figured it wasn't a big deal which one I picked first. I loved The Dark Ride and while I did find myself missing the heavier aspects of it in this album at times Keeper of the Seven Keys (Part 2) still went above expectations. The whole thing is great and I already new songs like I Want Out and Eagle Fly Free were pretty much etched into my head but Save Us and We Got the Right were even more impressive for me. I guess i'm pretty much confirmed for loving Helloween.

Finally came another one I had been planning to listen to for a while Theogonia by Rotting Christ. I had already enjoyed Keravnos Kivernitos for a while but despite this I went with Genesis first. While Genesis has its moments I was still looking for more from Rotting Christ because nothing on Genesis quite matched Keravnos Kivernitos. Theogonia was exactly what I was looking for. Some of the best electric guitar I have ever heard and Sakis' vocals pretty much had me sold from the very beginning. There is not a single weak track on the entire album and I know i'm gonna be stuck on this one just like I was stuck on Sagas.

I think from here i'm gonna try to add to my Heavy Metal. I have plenty of Black and Power Metal to tide me over and I want to get more into Motorhead among others.
