What do you peeps think a good length for a CD should be? I pefer my CD to be bewtween 30-45 mins. Unless we are talking about Acid Bath with both CDs being 70+ mins. Seriously any CD thats an hour or longer better be tits. Also song lengths I like about 3- 6 mins. anything that is 7 mins better be a master piece. I hate songs that would've worked better as a shorter song. (Vital Remains Icon of evil CD......which fails in song length and CD length)
Album lenght? I'd say 35 to 80 minutes. It doesn't matter if it's very lenghty. But too short is too short.
Song lenght? I'd say it depends of the genre. Grindcore tracks are usually pretty short. Bands like Benighted can make 2-5 minutes tracks, and that's alright. But bands like Austere, Agalloch, Wolves In The Throne Room, Symphony or DT make good 6 to 15 minutes tracks. Anything above 16 minutes really needs to be a good progressive track. If you make long track just for the lulz, it's annoying. The album Octavarium is a great DT album, but the track that I like the least on the record is the self-titled track. It's 20 minutes long, but I don't like it. After 7 minutes... I start wondering where the track is going.
I like long tracks, but yeah, anything longer then 16 minutes, like I said... better be progressive and well-structured, otherwise... fuck long tracks.
Btw, talking about song lenght. I was actually surprised when Antithesis by Origin came out, because the title track is actually quite long for a Death Metal track. And it's not a prog death band, like you guys know, but strangly, it's one of the greatest DM tracks I have in my library :)
