Sadly both Heavenly and Gamma Ray are kind of lame now, they both already had their golden albums.

I mostly like Seasons in the Abyss for the title track. The rest is kinda meh to me.

Slayer is a band that the best songs are always the first and last track.

Seasons In The Abyss is the best Slayer album in my opinion though, not that that's saying much since most of their albums are a joke.

As for Maiden, it depends what you've listened to. If you didn't click on for songs like Aces High and The Number of the Beast, chances are their music might not be for you.

Iron Maiden are good for 5-10 minutes. Listening to any Iron Maiden album in entirety is one of the most boring things you can do. Especially Brave New World...ugh, so bad.

You know how stupid you sound when you say that, right...? "Oh! I don't know them, but I can assume that all their career work is shit because they are a metalcore band." Way to go Ani...

It may be a bit judgmental, but it'd save me loads of time.

I never said they were not. But any time we say Power Metal is all about power chords, dragons and high pitched vocals, you go apeshit... yup... that's what we call stereotypes....

The difference is, their are plenty of SUCCESSFUL power metal bands alone that disprove that stereotype. I can't think of a single SUCCESSFUL metalcore/deathcore band that disproves mine, with the exception of BTBAM once again.

I think anime sucks, but that's irrelevant... right...?

Then chances are you've never legitimately watched a good series before.

Saying that is more like saying "metal sucks" after only listening to cannibal corpse, pantera and slayer.

There is at least 100 bad "core" bands for 1 decent one... But that doesn't mean you can just claim that they all suck.

Okay, hypothetically speaking I know there are probably some good core bands out there.

Would I EVER waste my time shifting through all that shit to find something decent? That's like digging through a huge pile of green leaves for a 20 dollar bill. Sure it's 20 dollars if you find it, but in that time you could probably make that much money doing easier things.

Yeah they really do, almost the entire crowd was Iron Maiden cock-sucking douchebags.
Another correct guess :)

You can't ask me to avoid a Death Metal pit... The only problem is that these kids actually think that they are allowed to join in the fun. Sadly, they lack the braincells to understand they are not supposed to do the windmill in the middle of the pit...

I see that ninja pitting at most shows, even ones without core bands. When I saw Suicidal Tendencies, Cro-Mags, D.R.I., Underdog and six local bands. That's ten punk bands, yet there was a shit ton of core dancing. (or at least, during the opening bands - during the big four bands, it had changed from ninja fighting to legit moshing - thank god)

Because if a large sum of people leave early, they'll say "OH SHIT, PEOPLE ARE LEAVING EARLY" and because their usually is someone monitoring, at least on major tours, what bands receive what kind of reaction. Also, based off merch sales they can tell who was the most popular.
Maybe, I don't know if they even monitor like you said... Maybe they do...

Believe me, they do. Or at least for major tours they do, like SS.

Melodic Death Metal hit its peak back around 2002 or 2003, metalcore around 2005 or 2006 and deathcore around 2008 or 2009. All those genres are on the decline, they are getting less popular if anything.
I hope you are speaking the thruth... And I really hope there won't be some kind of shit to replace it...

I pretty much am. of course their are exceptions, children of bodom(melodic death metal), Avenged Sevenfold(metalcore) and Bring Me The Horizon(Deathcore) are all still increasing in popularity. But for the most part, bands are decreasing.

Like dancecore or somethin' like that... oh wait...

lol Attack Attack.

Bands like Escape The Fate and Black Veil Brides seem to be the wave replacing deathcore.

Maybe it's my lack of experience at core/melo death shows, because I have good taste, but i've never actually seen anything like that happen at a show with those kinds of bands on it.
Happenned to me. I saw Threat Signal live, and the opening bands were chug-chug masters... Some kid kicked me in the back...

The closest to anything like that that ever happened is at Paganfest Part II in 2009(Korpiklaani, Primordial, Moonsorrow, Blackguard, Swashbuckle) I was on the barrier and the two guys behind me each grabbed one of my arms and threw me off the barrier to take my spot during blackguard's set.

But then again, that tour was sponsored by Hot Topic so that probably explains the douchebaggishness.

By the way, has anyone listened to Scale the Summit? They're an instrumental prog-metal band. They have some really great stuff; toured with BtBaM and Cynic a couple years ago.
Dunno, will look into them :)

Definitely check out Scale The Summit, duff. STS are great.

Like I said earlier, they really go hand in hand with Animals As Leaders. (STS is more atmospheric and emotional as AAL is more technical is "woooooah" IMO)

I've been directed to AAL for sometime now and listened to only a handful of their songs and come away unsatisfied. Is there an album or a selection of songs that you could reccomend? I'd love to find a new prog-metal band to listen to.

On the topic of prog-metal, I just discovered this Israeli prog-metal band called Amaseffer the other day. Very atmospheric and just real great stuff. They capture some awesome heavy riffs and infuse a lot of middle-eastern sound in there.

Yeah well, Protest The Hero do not tend to fit the description you've made of Metalcore, same for Glass Casket, All Shall Perish and early Through The Eyes Of The Dead (albums like Bloodlust).

When I think of hardcore I think of bands like Minor Threat, Black Flag, D.R.I., Propagandhi, early Suicidal Tendencies, Carnivore, The Cro-Mags, Pro-Pain, Agnostic Front, Discharge, Social Distortion, Underdog, etc.

When I think of shittie hardcore that scene kids supposedly listen to? Hatebreed and Earth Crisis are the ONLY bands that come to mind, any other "hardcore" those kids are listening to is almost always either metalcore, melodic death metal or deathcore.

Believe me, they do. Or at least for major tours they do, like SS.

Seeing as you're discussing hardcore I've noticed recently a few of my friends have become completely obsessed with it, touting it as 'the way forward'.

lolwut.

It's bands like Your Demise, Terror, While She Sleeps and The Ghost Inside. (I do like all these bands, but not that much)

The music scene in my city has gone completely down the shitter, now there are no metal bands and countless, and I mean fucking countless cookie-cutter hardcore bands with the same 2-step sections and crappy breakdowns.

I wish I was born in the late 70's.

Also why the fuck do so many people have a boner for Architects now? They're so fucking boring, and I swear all their songs sounds more or less the exact bloody same with slight changes.

Oh yea and the other day I had a massive laugh at some hipster/scene/brootalkid what the fuck ever, as not only has he shaved one side of his head and left the other long (complete with massive fringe of course) he decided to tattoo some lyrics from a hardcore song all the fuck over his chest for his first tattoo.

I now have Manilla Road's The Deluge and it's really good. I already heard most of the songs from Roadkill but felt it was put together better on the album itself so the songs I already heard were a much better experience here. Big thanks to Shadow Kingdom Records for re-releasing this album. All's left from Manilla Road now are The Circus Maximus, Mark of the Beast, After Midnight Live and the upcoming album Playground of the Damned. I did see Mark of the Beast for £35 on eBay which is much less than what I've seen elsewhere. I was tempted to get it but I can't help but think it'll be re-released sometime soon.

That just shows it's not worth going with popular music for the most part. The singers that get some time under the sun will only be forgotten by everyone in five years time when another hit pop singer comes in. Even underground heavy metal bands will still be remembered decades later.

I understand most of you would call the metalcore, but seriously, their musicianship is far too advanced to be put in that tag. I just read a track by track explanation of their new album Digital Veil, it's amazing how much thought goes into each song.

Yea I really like them, I have Nocturne but I need to give it another good listen. Pretty damn good band though.

I love metal like crackheads love anal. and crack.

It's not horrible. I just don't really care for it, and it gets stuck in my head easily, which starts to get on my nerves. The rest of the song is awesome, though.

Check out Boris's drone stuff, and Nadja.
I second that. Boris makes great Drone, I will also add Earth,

Yes, Earth, also. I'll look up Ascend later, if I remember. Lately, I've been looking at an assload of stoner/doom/sludge type bands and stoner rock, blues rock, psychedellic rock and the like.

I definitely think you'll dig Nadja if you're into Boris and Earth and Sunn 0)). I have Thaumogenesis, which I like to listen to when I'm staring at my ceiling, spaced out, which is something I do often. I like to do that while balancing my sub-woofer above my bed and laying my speakers on either side of my head. Electric Wizard and Ufomammut are some of my favorite bands to listen to when I do that. Lucifer Songs always has me going "abuuuuuuuuh....."

I really need to score some shrooms this spring/summer.

So i've been venturing out from metalcore recently. I've fallen in love with BTBAM, and i've loved Opeth for a while.

Any awesome progressive metal bands i should give a listen?

Hey Sense, Nadja got something like 20 records on MA, which one you suggest I listen to first?
