I decided to give Spotify a shot. I feel this will ease up on the albums I want to listen to and any albums I want to get after hearing them on Spotify can be bought at some point. I often feel if I download an album and hear every track, I won't be encouraged to buy it since I already heard the damn thing. However, I'm at least encouraged to get any albums I like on Spotify so I don't get ads in between songs as well as playing the songs wherever I go. I tried out Crimson Glory's Transcendence and Doomsword's new album The Eternal Battle. I had doubts about the latter at first but now I'm enjoying it.

I EXPECT crowdsurfing at an Immortal show.

BUT IF YOU FEEL SO INCLINED TO MOSH TO SONATA ARCTICA SOMETIME, THEN DO FEEL FREE.

Speaking of Sonata Arctica, I'll be seeing them in two weeks time with a friend of mine. There might be some headbanging but I'm sure there won't be any moshing. I'm confident that the crowd won't be as rough as those who attended Motörhead.

All their albums are pretty awesome, but I suggest starting out with either Blessed Black Wings or Snakes For the Divine.

Nah, COB is the lowest of the low - the only band lower is brokeNCYDE.

Also, I actually love tool. hahaha

Anyway, as for HoF albums - Death Is This Communion seems to be a popular album to start off with, even though it's my least favorite.

I actually really love Snakes. It's my 2nd favorite HoF album. Every song just seems really powerful and has cool riffs. I don't know, maybe it's just personal taste, but I really like it.

That's actually a good sign. That only tells me there's still some great records of theirs to listen to. As for the album itself, I personally enjoyed it for its riffs and I do love the rough voice Matt Pike has for the whole album. Then again, this might be typical for a High On Fire album but it is the first album of theirs I picked up so I've become fond of it as a result. Songs like Frost Hammer and Fire, Flood & Plague easily stuck out for me for the riffs.

Nah.

I have to agree with greensucksbluerules CoB is alot better than the bands he has listed... even though I listen to Slipknot (OLD NOT NEW!!!..... please don't hate me. I love iowa) and some A7X is not bad. But the others he has listed are just garbage. Fucking hate hellyeah.... all my friends like them and I let them know how much I hate them. Alcohol and ass? I think we all ought to be in agreement that Bill's the horseman again.

Somebody brought up Pagan's Mind. I think they're pretty damn good, yet I still haven't gotten any of their albums. I used to listen to them on Pandora a lot. Of Epic Questions always stuck out in my mind.

Although a lot of you guys seem to agree that Korpiklaani sucks, well, I think their early stuff is good, especially when you're drinking. I have Tervaskanto, which may not be as good as their first 3 albums, but it still has some fun tracks to listen to when you're having some beer (following whiskey beforehand).

I'm really liking Vitalij Kuprij. I have all but his latest album, I think. I just don't dig some of the stuff with vocals. Those who really like power metal might like those songs, though, and anybody who likes neoclassical stuff with really good keyboard and cool guitar should like the rest. I just wish he had Michael Romeo for more than just that one short track. Still, Greg Howe was awesome on High Definition. I already like him because of Planet X. And Tony MacAlpine is good on VK3. I've heard just a little of his solo stuff before. Maybe I'll listen to him more. I don't know who Michael Harris or George Bellas are, but Harris is good from what I heard on Glacial Inferno.

Also, Power Hor by Lesbian is still a seriously kickass stoner album.

That's probably my favorite album of theirs, if not 2112 (second to those would either be Caress of Steel or Hemispheres). Some big fans of Rush don't like their more keyboard heavy stuff, but whatever. I also like how they portray three different meanings for the phrase "moving pictures" in the album art. People are literally moving paintings, people see the paintings and are moved by them, and on the back, there's a film crew.

Though not metal, Tool is one of my absolute favorite bands ever. And they're overdue for a new album. I recently heard a version of King Crimson's 21st Century Schizoid Man with Maynard and Robert Fripp that was pretty damn cool, though not as great as the original, of course.

No. They mixed Power Metal, Melodic Death Metal and Neoclassical Metal in a very unique way, back when they started. There is a ton of uninspired shitty bands like Devildriver or Waking The Cadaver who suck far more than CoB. I could hardly see you arguing that I'm wrong.

I've also watched a good review of it on YouTube, and the reviwered said they pretty much dropped the Doom Metal feel on Snakes For The Divine. I have to admit that I've only listenned to song from SFTD so far, and I wasn't really impressed. It was a quick listen in a CD store though. The album could still grow on me. Reading reviews from the Metal Archives, I also see a lot of people supporting their earlier stuff over SFTD.

No. Souvenirs d'un Autre Monde is definitely their best stuff, though. The other albums have a similar musical genre. Only Tristesse Hivernale is a Black Metal release. And it's their first, btw.

2: Khlyst - Chaos Is My Name
heard about 'em. might check them out and Khanate.

I listenned to this album just once, and I can definitely tell that it as some awesome Drone and Ambient on it... Like II, V, VI and VIII. But I and VII are random experimental tracks. I don't know what the fuck makes it "experimental" though. Maybe it's the lack of any form of structures and the fact that Runhild Gammelsæter (who did some of the best vocals I've heard with Thorr's Hammer) just screams insanely without any kind of coherence, structured progression or quality.

So... it's half good, half terrible.

I started with Death Is This Communion first, and I liked it, but I couldn't get into the type of music (I was relatively new to stoner metal). I bought the Snakes for the Divine CD and enjoyed it, and Death Is This Communion is more enjoyable to me now. Also, Blessed Black Wings is a good place to start as well.

I never accepted that you weren't.

So, here's some info on the festivities of the festival I went to.

We walked to the train station. We had joints, and shots. We decided to finish the joints. We got on the train. The train was packed as fuck. So we had our shots on the train.

We could of totally snuck weed in, smoking it all first was a shit idea. But I got there wasted anyway.

The first band I watched was Monster Magnet. They were really good, they played Dopes For Infinity and good songs and shit. Would of been great on acid.

Bullet For My Valentine started playing afterwards so I got the fuck out of there. They are crap.

Went and watched High on Fire. The set went something like

How Dark We Pray
Face of Oblivion
Frost Hammer
Ghost Neck
Snakes For the Divine

I was pretty bummed they didn't play longer. Matt Pike's vocals were really good, his guitar playing was sloppy and I was expecting that from what I've seen on Youtube. The bass player and drummer are not sloppy at all.

His black tooth grin is gorgeous.

After they finished there was a stage behind me where Dimmu Borgir were playing. I went to see if they were laughable. They were pretty laughable. Their music is awful. Apparently they haven't played Australia before this festival.

Watched Slayer, was standing in a terrible spot where I could only hear Kerry King. I really should have fucking moved because I wanted to hear both guitars for fucks sake. I now appreciate King's playing more though. Dave Lombardo rocked the shit, I fucking love that guy.

I have no idea who the replacement for Jeff was.

I missed the Sword because they played at noon, very devo about that.

After Slayer, Kylesa played.

Kylesa were totally better than what I was expecting. Two drummers, that was cool. Phillip Cope, godfather of the Savannah sludge scene, looking right at me. The guitarist chick, totally hotter than I was expecting. I could see her nipples too. I would fuck Laura Pleasants so hard. They played stuff off Spiral Shadow and some other albums but they picked really heavy good songs hey, the delivery was flawless, even the bass player was impressive.

Then I went and watched a bit of Queens of the Stone Age, but after seeing Kylesa and High on Fire they weren't that impressive. I caught some cool songs:

Sick, Sick, Sick
Burn the Witch
Monsters in the Parasol
Mexicola
Little Sister
In My Head
Go With The Flow

And then I decided to rock up early to Melvins :D :D :D But I missed them play Regular John, which I wanted to see.

So, I rocked up to Melvins early. I was kind of sprinting to the stage. Then I leapt through the air, a bit like Bruce Dickinson, into the second row. Dale and Coady were making sure their drums were all good. I yelled out "DAAAAAAAAALE, YOU FUCKING RUUUUUUULE". Everyone's like, where's Buzzo? He's over there somewhere. Anyway, Buzzo appears.

They open the set with noise. Dale and Coady are blasting the fuck out their kids, Buzzo and Jared feedbacking, and Buzzo starts making fun of the crowd by going "WOOO WooooOOOO WOOOooOOO WOOO WOOO" just like the crowd have been doing.

Then they kicked into 'The Water Glass'. The song works really fucking well live. When I first chucked on their new album I was like wtf is going on but it all makes sense live. They played Evil New War God after that. Wait, I'll do the list

Feedback
The Water Glass
Evil New War God
The Talking Horse
Blood Witch
Anaconda

Yes..... They fucking played Anaconda from Bullhead. I kind of shat my pants and moshed my tits off while yelling bullshit lyrics.

LIKE A SWORD OF LORA LIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII

They played some more songs, and when they finished they sung us a goodbye song, complete with Dale and Coady flexing their arms and singing doo wop back up vocals.

Best live show I've ever seen.

Melvins started at the same time as Iron Maiden, but Iron Maiden were still going so I went and watched them. Their live show was mad, and I heard:

Dance of Death
The Trooper
Blood Brothers - Meh
Some shit song
Hallowed Be Thy Name
Number of the Beast
Iron Maiden
Running Free

Forgot a couple I think. Best moment of Maiden was Bruce's accent

"Yeah I'm pissed off I have to get up at 7 tomorrow to fly a play to North Korea, we quite like Australia, we wanted to stay a few months and get fucking trolleyed"

And when they played Iron Maiden and that brutal fucking 9 foot alien robot thing came out and Janick was running around it and through it's legs.

Hopefully the line up next year is awesome too.
