Yeah, add Agent Steel to the list as well. I'd say Dragonlord and Devin Townsend but I really need more of their stuff.

News articles about the bands. Best places to look are Metal Underground and Blabbermouth (despite constant garbage about Phil Anslemo and Dave Mustaine). Keeping track of your favourite bands on Twitter and Facebook also helps.

Those are predicted 2011 releases and ones that I'm sure will be out this year. Not 100% sure that they will be out this year, though.

Just heard that Manilla Road might be releasing another album in 2011. Adding that to my list of albums I'm anticipating.

Any good album by them? I heard you guys talking about them quite a few times in the past. Just wondering where I should start.

Not much has been said yet but releasing one this year would be good. However, they really need a decent website since their "official" one looks like it was made in the late 90s as well as not mentioning the Voyager album. I get the feeling I'll overlook news info on their new album.

Hammers of Misfortune are meant to be releasing a new album this year as well. I imagine they will since they signed to Metal Blade last year and clearly stated a new album for 2011. The only thing I wonder about the new album is the direction they take. The albums they've made so far all sound different to each other so they could take any path with the new album.

Start with Crystal Logic. That's the most well known Manilla Road album as well as being the easiest to get into. They have other great albums such as Atlantis Rising and The Courts of Chaos and there's plenty more for me to discover. I'd recommend the album Metal solely for Cage of Mirrors.

The Ethereal Mirror is a great album, Cathedral only get less doomy from there. I would get The Ethereal Mirror AND their following album The Carnival Bizarre, the album I started with. They're both golden.

Forest of Equilibrium, the album before those two, is the most doomy.

Havn't listened to their latest album...

I've actually listened to Dopethrone when drunk and it's actually better than usual.

That makes sense too. I think it suited acid because of the guitar and bass tone on the album, so fuzzy, and fuzzy noises are intense when you're trippin'.

I love Dopethrone's fuzz :)

No shit we were talking about wandering around in a forest and how awesome that would be. And Ghoul told me hiking on acid is better then chillin' out inside.

We usually try to avoid the indoors as much as possible 'cause the dorms can be oppressive on psychs.

Ah, I live in a house with trippy shit it in so it kinda works out.

The only problem with that is you can't listen to music outside with your friends, and music is awesome on drugs. I remember listening to a Beck song and thinking about how the 3 minute song was like a fucking musical odyssey or some shit.

Fuck yeah, I never thought about listening to Beck, that would rock on trips. Fatboy Slim was an odyssey for me too :S

Incidentally, I'm doing shrooms for my first time today!

HELL YEAH me and my friends keep talking about how we all want to do shrooms, we just don't have the connections to buy them. LET ME KNOW HOW YOUR TRIP GOES BROTHER

Eww you couldn't pay me to go to that.

Only 1 and a half months until Melvins, High on Fire, The Sword, Primus, Iron Maiden, Kylesa, Queens of the Stone Age, Monster Magnet, and Saxon. Slayer are playing too, but I've seen them live before. I probably will have to miss out on one of these bands but I want to see all of them.

But check out all the shitty bands that are going that I'm not going to watch haha.

One Day As A Lion? Wtf? Bullet For My Valentine, Murderdolls, Bring Me The Horizon, Sum 41, Dimmu Borgir, Coheed and Cambria, DevilDriver, The Amity Affliction, Protest the Hero, 36 Crazyfists, Il Nino, Polar Bear Club, Asking Alexandria, All That Remains, Dommin (They look so god damn gay), Bless The Fall (So do they), Breathe Carolina, There For Tomorrow,

ITS A WHOS WHO OF SHITTY BANDS

With a handful of kick arse ones thrown in for good measure. It's weird like that.

And you think that's any better than Symphony X? I'd take that show over any of those you listed, any day. From what you listed, only Primus and Maiden are of some kind of interest for me. QotSA are pretty good two, but they only have a couple good songs, surrounded by filler songs.

But check out all the shitty bands that are going that I'm not going to watch haha.

I'm trying to get more into Opeth because I've heard Beneath the Mire a few times and I liked the mix in that.

So far though I haven't found anything particularly interesting other than that on my own. Albeit I haven't looked that hard, but regardless.

Any suggestions?

Listen to Ras Algethi instead. Much better. If they sound similar to Opeth, it's because Opeth ripped them off and then watered it down.

All of them are really good, but I suggest Crystal Logic, Atlantis Rising, or Open the Gates.

Also, found a pretty cool early metal band from Canada called Cirith Ungol. I suggest checking them out.

I also finally got around to posting my Top 10 Metal Albums of 2010. I would like if you guys read it, gave me any thoughts you had on it, and maybe suggest some great albums I missed.

Megadeth
Opeth
Symphony X
I didn't know these bands had upcoming releases.

News about a new Megadeth album have been confirmed ever since their exclusive song on the latest Guitar Hero game. As for Opeth, they entered the studio this album and are aiming for a Fall release. Symphony X have been working on their new album for a while now. They were going to release it last year but they need more time working on it.

Nice list. I like the choices you've made. Some of these albums I will need to listen to. I do have one suggestion for your list, though, It'd be great if you shared an input for each album in your top 10 so we get a bit of background on your favourite albums of the year.

My metal songs/works in progress

Alright guys, I know it's been a fucking long time, but I've been recording some tracks of late (some post metal, some melodic death metal) and I just want you guys to check out the tracks. Yeah the drumming is really fucking bad on all of them, but I can't afford EZdrummer right now, so I'm programming everything in Garageband/Fruity Loops.

Well, since you like Metallica, you could listen to the other three of what they call the "Big Four" of thrash metal: Anthrax, Megadeth, and Slayer. For Anthrax I recommend the album Among the Living, Rust in Peace for Megadeth, and Reign in Blood for your first Slayer album. Now Iron Maiden I'm not sure of. Probably Judas Priest is a good band sort of like them.
