I technically did because I grew it as soon as I got a guitar and started listening to GN'R and Led Zeppelin and stuff. The Metal came later.

i'm too skinny to not wear skinny jeans. if i wear normal-fit jeans, they just make me look skinnier 'cause they're so loose. i think tight-fitting clothes are more comfortable anyway.

I tried growing out my hair, but it looked like shit. It curled up and it looked like a mini-fro. It was awful. So now i have shorter hair with no beard. I'm such a shitty metalhead......

But on the other hand, I do have a really nice leather jacket. It used to be a biker jacket, so it's really warm and comfortable. So I wear that a lot. I actually started wearing it before I really got into metal, simply because it was so comfortable.

Guys,we need to talk.. I love metal but the anger is not worth affecting my relationship with others and the one I love. I need to change myself for who I am and what I believe in, I don't care if you and other metal heads look down upon me but I've found God and I'm happy. I still love metal but I'm not extreme as I once was. The black metal community will not be happy but hey, they will get over it. I am still tr00 and frostbitten I once believed in the Asa god and I will never forget about them and what they have done for me. I will always remain loyal to metal and I will not believe like crazy bible thumpers I choose to worship differently. I'm going back to church for the first time in 5 years Christmas day.

I hope you all understand,

Not all Metal is 40 years old. Avoid talking about Metal as one big genre. I still think there is a big difference between Metal and Pop. There are so many pop artists who just dissapear whenever the hype is over. It's not just Pop and Metal. Musical genres like Jazz, Classical, Blues, Rock and Metal go through the ages. Trends, even among these genres, will die whenever they stop being popular and will fall into darkness. See, some artists and bands are created only for commercial purposes. And don't tell me I'm trying to see conspiracies everywhere... That's commercial music. These usually just fade away with time.

And having an emo fringe and skinny jeans and whatnot isn't?

You serious? You can't tell the difference between a community, sharing similarities... and teenage wanna-be rebellion?

You can't tell the difference between teenage commercial trends and the metal community? Real metal fans, will stick to the genre for their life. Scene kids are what they are KIDS. Have you ever seen a 30 years old guy with a fringe? (The guys in the emo bands do not count)

Just because Sunn O))) aren't widely known doesn't mean Metal isn't popular. It is.

Yes it is... What's the point? Popularity and commerciality isn't the same thing.

Total snobbery. Paramore got on the radio because of a fanbase. Them being accessible helps but that doesn't matter.

And you think that fanbase popped out from wholes in the ground? They are not just accessible. They are following a trend. No matter how you reached celebrity, if you did so by following a trend, you will follow this trend when it will fall down.

This.
I feel like theres a difference between 2 bands having say a millions fans each.
If one of them are not promoted at all (no radio, MTV videos, etc) they would still be popular for accumulating that many fans.
However if the other band is on the radio every 10 minutes and on the front row of every CD store, than really are they at all the same?

Keep this bullshit out of here. We are not here to debate on the existance of a "God" or which one is the good one, or is there many gods or whatever. "Get saved" what fucking bullshit! That's just some stupid bullshit your priests made up to keep the fear in the heart of believers and to bring back to church those who would dare to think there is not God.

To be fair, he wasn't really bible bashing or anything. Just agreeing with what smeagol was doing, rather than be all "OLOLOLOL GOD DOESN'T EXIST" or something. He didn't tell YOU that YOU had to be saved, or that you had to go and start believing in God, or that you should change anything with the way you're living. As far as I can see he directed that post only at smeagol and nobody else. Fair enough if he came in here with bibles flying everywhere and smacking everyone in the head saying "PRAISE JESUS OR YOU'LL ALL DIE METUL IS EVIL OLOLOLOL".

Again, note that he said "yourself", not "yourselves" or anything of the sort.

While I'm on the topic, smeagol, congratulations, if its what makes you happy in the end, then go for it. Forget about everyone else thinking "OMG HE'S NOT METAL ANYMORE" or any stupid shit like that just because you go to church and everything.

WHOAHHHHH I think you need to CALM THE FUCK DOWN. Remember what Bahamut (?) said about irrationality being an unsuitable trait for an authority figure such as yourself to possess? You could have said this in a much more respectful way. How hard is it to just say "We try to not discuss religion in the Metal Hell; it can be a touchy subject, especially considering metal's relationship with faith."

Regardless of whether or not Xarnor is trying to push his agenda on us (which he doesn't appear to be, though I suppose the way his message was worded could lead to it being understood in that way), you are in no place to be attacking someone's beliefs like this. He's fucking 15, Jesus Christ. You look like a belligerent, immature fool. You just said "we are not here to debate on the existance of a "God" or which one is the good one, or is there many gods or whatever," but this is exactly how these stupid debates start; not by the person who introduces the topic, but by the asshole who jumps the gun and lashes out. And in this case, that asshole is you, and by proxy, you've made us all look like assholes.

No problem duder, all is forgiven and forgotten. I'm one of the hardest peoplein the world to offend or hurt with words.

I wish I could give or receive metal gifts, but all of my friends and family happen to be Christians which obviously presents a bit of a problem. I was thinking about buying my cousin a good metal CD to hopefully have at least one person IRL who I can talk metal with (he's a drummer with no strong opinions about any music yet, I KNOW he would like heavy metal), but I'd rather not start a family shitstorm.

I know a lot of people will hold on to their prejudice as hard as they would hold on to their life...

Metal is not anti-christian. Some bands from a few different genres may have anti-religion lyrical themes, but it's not generalized to the whole Metal scene. Sometimes religious people will hold on to these kind of opinions no matter what, even if you could come up with the most rock hard proof that they are wrong.

Anyway, I suggest you make them listen to some Christian Metal. If that doesn't change their views on Metal, nothing else will. Jacobs Dream makes some pretty good Power Metal, and they are Christians. I suggest you go to Metal Archives and search for Christianity in Lyrical Themes. You'll get hundreds of bands :)

What should I lead him to then? He's more into the screamo that's closer to emo, or maybe it's not screamo, I don't know, he likes Black Veil Brides I think. So maybe it's a hopeless cause...

For some strange reason... a lot of kids seem to believe that one-not-chug riffs with random melodic leads is the best way to write a song, even if it's a well-known fact that any kid who owns a guitar can write a riff like this...

I'd like to introduce him to metal though.

I listenned to one of their songs on YouTube and the video is the typical teenage-emo bullshit. The usual story of the poor emo who gets bullied at school and blah blah blah. So even the "The emo screamo music seems more about the lyrics" part, is not so true. Or maybe the kids who enjoy this just never heard of the countless other songs sharing identical lyrical themes and videoclip themes.

Anyway. Best chance you have with him if you want to introduce him to metal would be Melodic Death Metal. But even with that, he could get stuck and listen to melodeath only... like so many kids end up doing...
