Apologies for the double-post, but Maryland Deathfest? I live in Maryland and I've never even heard of this.
It's nothing, just a fest to wet OSDM fanatics' panties. You wouldn't be interested.
Yup, OSDM fans get totally wet over Kylesa, Neurosis, Bouzzov*en, Acid Witch, etc. I suggest you at least fucking look at the line up before makeing retarded claims.

Did you even look at my other post? I said it's mostly DM. Everything else is extra. It's called a deathfest for fuck's sake. Oh, and Acid Witch is pretty popular with OSDM fans. Shows how much you know.

This Dreadful Emptiness is my favorite track on the album. That part that kicks in at 4:31 is fucking instant elevation. They could have released a song that was 20 minutes of that one section and I would have been happy. Either way ponos should give both a listen. They're better produced than Withering Illusions, of which I really only liked two of the five tracks. If you don't like these then fuck it. Least I can say I tried.

On the subject of live shows, I suppose I'm seeing a fair amount since I haven't been to so many. Maybe after a while I can easily miss out on shows for bands I've seen live a few times but right now, I'm wanting to see all my favourite bands live.

Those are pretty much all the bands that come to mind, right now.

New Sargeist is pretty good. I'm undecided about whether or not i like the production and the tone of the drums, but it isn't enough to ruin the sound of the album.

So Soulfly is coming to Denver on the 30th. Anyone seen them live? How good are they?
I'm pretty set on going, unless anyone with similar tastes to me says they have a live show.

And means it.

Then Silent Guardian is coming on the 12th of December, I'm definitely going to see them.
Sucks none of my friends are into metal, I might end up going alone. :c

I don't have enough time to see live concerts. However, here's a list of the bands I saw live somewhere during the last 6 years. Remember I was pretty new to the metal scene back then :P

For the most part, that's a pretty shittie concert past. The only band on that list I haven't seen that i'd like to see is Stratovarius.

Speaking of which, Stratovarius's drummer has cancer.

So Scar Symmetry are pretty good, even if Christian left the band... Blackguard are amazing. The Agonist went from pretty good metalcore, to awful chugcore. Epica is shite.... A cheap copy of every other Symphonic Metal band with a female vocalist...

it's funny you say that because Scar Symmetry, The Agonist and Blackguard are all awful. (Blackguard are fun live, but that's IT)

And it's funny because their isn't a single band that sounds like Epica. Seriously - they're basically the only symphonic metal band with way more death metal influences than power metal, and they sound nothing like Nightwish, Within Temptation, etc.

So what the fuck are you on? You're probably judging them purely off their first album, listen to Design Your Universe and The Divine Conspiracy and suck a fat one.

No it's not. You can't shit on Symphony X... in fact... you can't shit on most of these bands, except Arch Enemy or Trivium...

it's funny you say that because Scar Symmetry, The Agonist and Blackguard are all awful. (Blackguard are fun live, but that's IT)

Haha! Then you are wasting your money on this stupid pile of shit that is Epica? Hahaha! If you are going to do so, might as well just throw these in the garbage. Scar Symmetry are far superior to Epica, especially when it comes to being melodic and creative. Epica are just a pathetic blend of Nightwish and Kamelot. A stupid trend in metal, followed only by girlies who are all "Girl Power! lulz" and other emo-ish fags who listen to shit like In This Moment. Blackguard are amazing....

And it's funny because their isn't a single band that sounds like Epica. Seriously - they're basically the only symphonic metal band with way more death metal influences than power metal, and they sound nothing like Nightwish, Within Temptation, etc.

You think their is DM influences in their music because they go DU DU DUN DU DU DUUUNNNN and because they have scream and growls sorta vocs? Man, you really need to work on that Death Metal definition of yours...

They sound just like any other Symphonic Metal band, like Kamelot, Nightwish or Tristania. Even these elements of "DM" in their music are not linked in anyway to the symphonic metal elements (which are pretty much the core of their music). It just feels like they are switching between these two musical genres without any kind of interresting transitions whatsoever. And when they do, it's usually just a keyboard melody or somethin'. Anyway, I see Epica as part of a stupid trend. Their succes is based only on this and the support of Kamelot. If that redhead vocalist was not blowing Khan's dick, Epica wouldn't even exist.

So what the fuck are you on? You're probably judging them purely off their first album, listen to Design Your Universe and The Divine Conspiracy and suck a fat one.

Suck a fat one? You said Scar Symmetry is bad just before you started saying Epica was good. How much sense does that make? Epica lacks everything that makes Scar Symmetry a good band. Such as good and agressive riffs, good rythm section, not just pathetic wannabe dark melo keyboard parts to cover the shit sandwich that Epica's music is.

And then people say I start arguments...

At 11/19/10 11:30 PM, AniMetal wrote: Don't bother, even if you enjoy them on recording they're incredibly boring live.

Scar Symmetry is no more. They are not whole anymore, not since Alvestam left the band. They may be quite boring now, but Symmetric In Design and Pitch Black Progress were awesome albums. Their first two were good, then it became kind of redundant, and then Alvestam left...

Symphony X, Kalmah, Gojira, In Flames and Dark Tranquillity are all bands I like but HAVE seen, stratovarius is the only one you've seen that I like that I haven't seen.

And the rest of that list is shit, bro.

Haha! Then you are wasting your money on this stupid pile of shit that is Epica?

Are you kidding? Fuck no, i've seen epica before - i'm seeing blind guardian tonight in New York City bitch, not epica in my own town.

And i'm seeing blind guardian again tomorrow night in my home town.

Why? Blind Guardian are the best band ever.

Scar Symmetry are far superior to Epica, especially when it comes to being melodic and creative.

LOLOLOLOLOOLOLOLOL WUT? in all honesty, you can't compare them but I beg to differ. I remember lots of things about epica's music, SS isn't very melodic if I can't remember much about them other than being bored.

Epica are just a pathetic blend of Nightwish and Kamelot.

Nightwish
Kamelot

HOW THE FUCK DO EITHER OF THOSE SOUND LIKE: Epica

A stupid trend in metal, followed only by girlies who are all "Girl Power! lulz" and other emo-ish fags who listen to shit like In This Moment.

A trend? Yes, you can't stop what's popular.

And I have NEVER met anyone who likes both In This Moment and Epica.

Seriously, that's like saying "People who like Enslaved are also douchebags who probably jizz over Burzum"

Blackguard are amazing....

It's funny because they're really not, they're just late to jumping on the folk metal bandwagon so they'll never truely become huge and they try and cover that up by opening for bands NONSTOP. Seriously, they've played in my hometown seven times in 2010 alone.

You think their is DM influences in their music because they go DU DU DUN DU DU DUUUNNNN and because they have scream and growls sorta vocs? Man, you really need to work on that Death Metal definition of yours...

How does this not have death metal elements? Dude, two of the members of epica are from God Dethroned.

If that redhead vocalist was not blowing Khan's dick, Epica wouldn't even exist.

it's funny because kamelot have only gotten popular in the past five years, before the black halo they were less popular than symphony x are now. (which is popular, but not very popular)

You said Scar Symmetry is bad just before you started saying Epica was good. How much sense does that make?

The sense is that Epica is still making better music than before while gaining popularity, SS are gaining popularity and making worse music.

Plus, they're different genres.

Epica lacks everything that makes Scar Symmetry a good band.

LOL WUT?

good and agressive riffs,

LOL WUT? There's nothing good or aggressive about SS's riffs.

This is all I see everytime I decide I'd like to contribute to the discussion (read: stupid unnecessary bitching).

http://www.explosm.net/comics/2239/

"Oh you haven't seen enough good bands live" "Oh they suck, you should listen to:" "Oh they're too mainstream".

I liked it better with Ghoul around. He was a fucking cool dude. No disrespect to the new Horsemen, though, you're all excellent candidates and upholding your positions well.

In reference to how often I go to shows, I go as often as the bands decide to show up here which isn't very often, and providing the funds needed are available.

So far, I've seen:

Arch Enemy
Trivium
Machine Head
Double Dragon
Megadeth
Slayer
It Dies Today
Whitechapel
Meshuggah
Anno Domini
Killrazer
Mortal Sin
The Amenta
Daysend
Switchblade
Fear Factory
The Sword
Metallica

Pretty sure I'm missing a few more, but that's my list so far. I could have had a few more but with uni and everything it's hard to try and get out and see them.

If that list is too "mainstream" or "shit" or "I've seen all those bands plus 500 more you're so shit I'm so much more metal than you", then you can go fuck yourselves.

It's starting to remind me of that twat mod that come in here trying to tell us we weren't real metal fans because we didn't live in a house and let other strangers or bands crash at our houses, then jumped and called us all posuers because we gave reasons WHY we couldn't do any of that.

tldr - stop acting like a bunch of spoiled fucking 12 year olds and go outside.

Alright guys, I'm basically stuck on listening to black metal. It's probably my favorite subgenre of metal. So I need some good suggestions. I'll list the black metal bands I listen to now:

Dark Funeral
Gorgoroth
Anorexia Nervosa
Urgehal
Behemoth (if you consider them to be)
Blodsrit
Belphegor
Tsjuder
Krypt
Rotting Christ

Also I might try some of Immortal...but can someone recommend me some bands that I might be forgetting?

I enjoy Immortal a lot, so check them out. Also, DragonLord, who was formed by Testament's guitarist, is pretty good and Enslaved is awesome. Bathory, of course, you need the classics, and you will probably like Akercocke if you like Behemoth and Belphegor. and 1349 are pretty good. And Sigh. They completely kick ass.
