let's talk about drugs and metal.

Rock stars have always been full of drugs. So many bands get high and smoke pot before shows. My band does it too, so it's like a ritual of the music. It's very awesome. Being drunk makes it hard to play good though. But listening to thrash drunk works. But I think drugs and metal go hand in hand because a lot of metal music tries to push boundaries and expand on things and go to new places. And drug taking is a little like that.

I find Tankard and Motörhead to be most appropriate for beer.

Fucking, Edge of Sanity - Crimson is one of the greatest songs I've ever heard, and it's 40 minutes long. It's a prog death metal masterpiece.

Hey guys, can't believe I didn't mention this yet, but I'm putting together "A Newbie's CD of Thrash Metal." Essentially, one of my friends wants to start listening to some Thrash, and he wants me to put together a CD for a good starting spot, heres what I have:
1. When the Sun Burns Red by Kreator
2. Master of Puppets by Metallica
3. Dead Skin Mask by Slayer
4. By Inheritence by Artillery
5. Tornado of Souls by Megadeth
6. Madhouse by Anthrax
7. Never, Neverland by Annihilator
8. The Unknown Knows by Voivod
9. Evil Priest by Death Angel
10. (My Favorite) Nightmare by Metal Church
11. Love....Hate by Sacred Reich
12. Elimination by Overkill
13. Beneath the Remains by Sepultura
14. Thrash 'Till Death by Destruction

Is that a pretty good starting set? Are there any others I should add or replace with another song? Suggestions welcome!

I would have picked a more thrashy Slayer song, like Angel of Death or War Ensemble. I'm not that big on thrash metal though.

I'm trying to pick some of the more "accesible" thrash metal songs. Mostly, I picked the individual song that got me to like the band. Dead Skin Mask was the Slayer song that got me to start listening to them, not Angel of Death or War Ensemble. If my friend likes it, I'll suggest those easily, but I want the more accessible songs. The one I had a toss up with was the Kreator song. It was between When the Sun Burns Red or Coma of Souls.

Fleshgod Apocalypse is just awesome :)

You know more about Thrash Metal than I do, but fro Metallica I would have picked something from the album Kill Em' All. Master Of Puppets is also pretty good, I guess. Otherwise, this looks like a list that could help me learn a little bit more about Thrash Metal. Thanks mate :)

No problem =P. Meant this for a friend, didn't know I would be helping fellow members of the Hell. Again, I picked Master of Puppets because, 1) It's more accesible to a regular listener than something off Kill 'Em All and 2) Master of Puppets is my favorite song of Metallica's.

I went to the most amazing show ever last night! it was the "Join The Army" Festival.

I missed Dead Ellington, Lifeloss, Los Bungalitos, Revenge and Shoot To Kill (The first five bands) but it doesn't matter because the second five bands compensated for missing them. :D

I got their at like 6:55 or so, Death Before Dishonor played from 7:00-7:30. They were just generic tough guy hardcore that had breakdowns for whatever reason(ugh) - overall they weren't bad but they weren't good either. Their was a huge slam pit during their set and it was very entertaining to watch...hahaha corefags.

Then Underdog played from 7:45-8:15, they were REALLY good but only like ten or so people other than me seemed to enjoy them - which was lame, but whatever. They didn't play Say It To My Face though, and that was kind of disappointing.

Then D.R.I. went on at 8:30 and they were incredible, the crowd exploded for them and they kicked ASS. (I got a picture of their setlist, it's attached to this.)

Cro-Mags played for a good 40 minutes, I honestly hadn't expected much because i'm not a huge fan of theirs on recording but they were really awesome and played my favorite cro-mags sound: Malfunction.

Then finally for the main act: Suicidal Tendencies went on at 10:30 and destroyed for 90 minutes! They opened with You Can't Bring Me Down then went right into Instutionalized and then Join The Army.

They played most of the songs off the album Join The Army which was really awesome!

But the real highlight is how the last two songs of the night, Pledge Your Allegiance and I Shot Regan, they invited the crowd onstage and me with about 60 other people crowdsurfed over the barrier and got on stage for an ONSTAGE MOSHPIT. :D

I got to hug their bassist afterwards and mike, their singer, complimented my long hair and Propagandhi shirt. :)

Overall Suicidal Tendencies, Cro-mags, D.R.I. and Underdog were all great and I highly recommend you guys seeing these bands whenever you get a chance.

At 11/14/10 11:16 AM, Zodir wrote: 1. When the Sun Burns Red by Kreator

I'd use a thrashier song like Betrayer or Love Us Or Hate Us.

8. The Unknown Knows by Voivod

I'd use one of their more thrashie songs(You're using something from when they become more psychedelic.) Like Ravenous Medicine or Tornado would be better choices.

12. Elimination by Overkill

I'd use something off their first two albums considering they're so much better and more popular. Like "feel the fire" or "powersurge"

13. Beneath the Remains by Sepultura

Sepultura is kind of random considering they're more oldschool death metal, not thrash metal...

14. Thrash 'Till Death by Destruction

I'd use "Nailed TO The Cross" personally, but whatever.

Is that a pretty good starting set? Are there any others I should add or replace with another song? Suggestions welcome!

I'd use Toxik's "Shotgun Logic" as a replacement for the sepultura one.

Nothing about Metal. But I really hate myself because of this. Also Dent posted in that thread lol. I was such a little douche, I wanted to make a band like Slipknot, and I was all like, fuck off! Anarchy and stuff! Fuck society! I even misspelled the name of the band I wanted to create. Shame on me...

Well I still want to create a band, I've started a project called "Lunar Serenade" but well... the name might change and change again... I'm composing songs with my 7-String. I already have one song, I just need to buy a mic or something to record it. My main influences are Insomnium, Children of Bodom, Opeth, Dark Tranquillity and Alcest.

Why? These are intros. You don't need them, but if you pair them up, "Battle Hymn/One Shot at Glory" and "For the Glory Of.../More Than Meets the Eye" they are good. I'm not sure if you knew they were intros, but know you know.

"Girlfriend" Kabbage Boy

"Superbeast" Rob Zombie
"Through the Fire and Flames" DragonForce

Ehhhh. These are ok, not anything great.

Wow that's a fairly good soundtrack. I really do need to get this game. On the people who I don't know, could you tell me if those guys are any good? Cuz then I need to check them out. It's always good to find out about new bands and songs.

Also, I'm not sure if I mentioned this, but I got Atheist's new album, Jupiter. It kicks ass!!! If you are a Technical Death Metal fan, pick it up!

Brutal Legend soundtrack isn't all that great. Sure it may have a few great bands, but it's all pretty much mediocre. And if most of your metal bands come from that soundtrack, well then... Hahahaha. You must not know much about metal.

Would you rather have someone who found most of the metal bands s/he listens to from Brutal Legend or a nu-metal kid? I take the Brutal Legend soundtrack for granted, even if the soundtrack or the game itself aren't perfect. Infact, Brutal Legend was what got me into Brocas Helm and Slough Feg and those are two bands that have introduced me to other stuff such as Hammers of Misfortune and Manilla Road. If it weren't for Brutal Legend, I highly doubt I would have found those bands at all.

It was amazing. :D

I've never actually heard any of Toxik. Where should I start?

I'm pretty sure they only have two albums, but I prefer "Think This" which is where the song "Shotgun Logic" is from. ;)

How could Dark Tranquillity be a bad influence?

So apparently Dimmu Borgir claims that they are the best metal band you've never heard of in a newspaper article. They say they have some metal for everyone, thrash, death, black, rock, and heavy metal.

Ha.

Probably couldn't find one online, I'll try and get a picture or copy it or something.

Eh, I'd rather hear it from Mayhem than Dimmu Borgir.

Right, but strictly between the two I'm with Mayhem.

I got to hug their bassist afterwards and mike, their singer, complimented my long hair and Propagandhi shirt. :)

Necrobutcher isn't a fag, he's a drunk! When you're in a band, it's important to have pride and talk yourself up. Mayhem slay most bands out there. And they've been around the block.

My cousin is really into Abrahadabra. Says the whole symphonic aspect is highly enjoyable.
