I know a couple of girls who are into Slipknot and Trivium and stuff like that. Like you guys said, it's pretty hard to find girls who have anything more than a casual interest in Metal.

I managed to get my ex-girlfriend into Agalloch, Helloween, Opeth, Epica and Nightwish, though.

My girlfriend hates the death growl. She hates Opeth. So I let her listen to a mellow Opeth song with clean vocals and she liked it. The look on her face when I told her it was the same band was priceless.

Tell her she will get used to the death growl and that it's very much an aquired taste. I used to hate it too but I got used to it pretty quickly.

Alright guys, I know for the purpose of this club -core bands are not metal, but do you actually think that? Metal is an umbrella genre, like Rock, or Punk, or Jazz. The only umbrella that -core fits under is Metal, and as a classification I wouldn't disagree with it.

i always put -core under punk because musically, it's far more punk than metal.

Even deathcore? I would consider that to have more in common with death metal than hardcore. That's interesting anyway I suppose, never heard that opinion before.

Denta speaks the thruth.

Still, some metalcore is far more influenced by metal than punk. But even these bands, a lot of you guys won't allow in the Metal Hell.

I think that some of you guys just do not want to accept that bands some bands have enough metal influences to be considered as such. I know some of the guys in the Hell just hate bands like Bullet For My Valentine and that they can't accept it as metal, not because it doesn't fit the definition, but because it doesn't fit their own tastes in metal music. So what is the solution? Try to find a definitive reason to push these bands out of the Metal Hell. Stupid shit like "they have breakdowns and they chug, so they are not metal." That kind of argument is going nowhere though... BFMV share elements with Melodic Heavy Metal bands like King Diamond, and bands from other genres like Iron Maiden. I even hear Melodic Death Metal influences. Sometimes even thrash riffs are to be found in their music.

Tell me what is it that makes this song not metal.

I know, it was the same way for me, and there are good growlers and terrible ones. She wouldn't like that stuff anyway, though. She likes country, pop, and eighties music, unfortunately.

Punk as in hardcore, legit punk or as pop punk? I put -core under pop punk because that's what it sounds like to me. Sugary sweet pseudo harsh music. It's almost an oxymoron.

Yeah, I hardly know any female metal fans. The only one I know is my sister but I'm still grateful for her to enjoy all the music I listen to. Hell, I wasn't sure if she would get into Opeth but we went as far as seeing them live back in April.

I LIKE OPETH
and i'm a girl. but as far as 'real metal' goes, thats about it for me. It's true, i tend to go for metalcore.
Any reccomendations?

If you like Opeth, you might like Katatonia, Amorphis, and My dying bride.

Core is not filled with chug-chug breakdown bree-bree bands. It's also not all over-produced and some bands are not fitting that genre classification.

I had a fantastic time seeing Blind Guardian tonight! It's great to finally seeing them live. The support act Steelwing was great and they were good enough for me to pick up their album. I felt getting their album at the venue would be better than getting it from the shops so I did just that. Too bad I didn't click onto that with Heidevolk's album on Monday. Ah well.

Seems like every tour follows the same path. And it seems that every show you want to see, seems to interest me a lot :)

I live in central Massachusetts(USA) - Realistically though, I go to shows in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Hampshire and occasionally up to New York City.

So as you can image, I travel quite a while for some shows while other shows are 20 minutes away.

(Use google maps to help understand haha)

THAT BEING SAID:

What the fuck are you guys talking about? Maybe it's because I go to a fucking TON of concerts and i'm the most social guy ever but I have met COUNTLESS real metal chicks.

Like I said though, they tend to be less open minded and diverse with their taste and tend to be:
A.) Melodic Death Metal whores
B.) Power/Symphonic Metal 'princess'
C.) Thrash Metal/Oldschool death metal fanatic (Whom also tend to be mad druggies)
D.) Black Metal elitist bitchs.

Yeah there's humor in that but their is some serious truth to this.

Also, Opeth are pretty damn popular - when I saw them here in 2008 with High On Fire and Nachtmystium as the opening bands they SOLD OUT a venue with a capacity of 3,200.

Speaking of this tour - back then I had only heard great things about Opeth so I wanted to go without really knowing any of the bands, so I saw Damnation in stores and bought it and thought "This is cool" without any knowledge of Opeth's death/black metal albums. Needless to say, I was QUITE surprised at this show. ;)

I don't hate most death growls, but I only like Opeth's clean vocals. Which is why I only listen to Damnation. It'll grow on me, one day.
