This is a no NWOBHM zone, boy. It's all about the latest Suffoclones and who can be the most brutal while doing arpeggios.

Guys, I need some help and figured that this would probably be the best place to ask.

To get straight to the point, my taste in music is slightly outdated. I listen to a lot of early British Punk & Oi! bands as well as some metal bands that were mainly big in the 80's and 90's. This will always be my favourite styles of music, there's no denying, but it's time for me to modernise.

What I need from you guys is is any recommendations of modern metal bands. I'm not a huge fan of the screaming style vocals, but I can live with them if its not too extreme. Examples of the metal bands I currently listen to are Slayer, Skid Row, Pantera and Iron Maiden. For the most part, I like my bands to be fast.

So guys, if you have the time, hit me with some modern metal bands so that I can try and acquire a new taste in music.

No. Your tastes are fine, and we'd rather not corrupt them with the mass of shit that has been labeled 'metal'.

But because I'm bothered, I'll list a couple of bands that you SHOULD (and will) like.

Warbringer
Mantic Ritual
Municipal Waste
...holy crap, I'm out of modern Thrash bands :\

Maybe I need recommendations too :3

You seem to have hit the nail on the head with those suggestions. This is exactly the kind of stuff I'm into. I'll definitely spend some more time looking for modern thrash metal bands. One of my favourite punk bands, The Exploited, went for a more thrash sound in recent years. You might want to check them out.

So in other words, it'd be safe to say you'd be a pretty big fan of Crossover in general.

Well, sort of. I prefer early British hardcore punk and Oi!, which is basically just the skinheads take on punk. Bands like The Business, GBH, The Macc Lads and The Anti-Nowhere League are amongst my personal favourites. When it comes to metal, yes, thrash is what I tend to listen to, but it's not something I listen to a lot.

I suppose once I discover a few more modern thrash bands, I might start listening to them more. I'm liking what I hear from the bands SpeedMetalSandwich mentioned so far.

I've got their first album and the song Angel Witch rocks. Is that good enough? :)

Haha, you've said more than I could. I dunno about thrash metal these days. Most of the bands I discover just seem to bore me. They mostly don't have anything that makes them stand out well and I want to avoid the generic stuff as much as I can. Ah well, I'm happy with the thrash metal bands I have in my library.

who else went to sonisphere on saturday? Rammstein kicked ass as usual, Anthrax were good and earthtone 9 are back and better than ever. Gallows, who come from near where I live, also rocked bohemia even if they seem to be struggling to find out whether they are punk revolution or metal.

"angel witch" was one of the best albums of '80. this band was seriously influential for NWOBHM. Album picks would be "angel witch",(classic guitar riff), "white witch", and "angel of death". "gorgon" and "sorcerers" are worth listening to as well.

Does anyone else here have the craving for something heavier?
Or is it just me who gets bored of bands quickly...
Can someone recommend an ear rape-y band?

if you really want to get your ears raped, you're gonna need to step outside of metal and start listening to noise

I'm not saying I literally want for my ears to start bleeding

I'm not into A.C.

I'm just asking for a more...louder...hardcore band...it's hard to explain. Just forget I'm even here...again.

I don't like plain brutal shit...

But I like a few Technical Brutal Death Metal bands. Starting with Origin and Benighted could be interresting :)

Some Raw Black Metal I really like, Balrog (FRA). Their music is raw, agressive, black and brutal :)
