Ok then Led Zeppelin isnt metal, but neither are Sabbath and Deep Purple. Sabbath had blues riffs and progressions in so much of their music, they were actually originally a blues rock band. They just played more somber blues with more distortion. And don't even get me started on Deep Purple, they've gone from blues rock to heavy metal to fucking pop rock.

Anywhere you look for these bands you'll see them called BOTH heavy metal and blues rock. By today's standards all three bands are most likely to be called hard rock, but back then they were all fucking heavy.

WHO CARES LOL

Why do you care what genre a band is? If you like it, then listen to it, holy shit. It's about the way it sounds, not what group it's classified in.

Black Sabbath was bluesy doom metal/heavy metal from the start. Deep Purple was sometimes heavy metal, but borderline. Led Zep never had a heavy metal sound.

I only know a couple songs by each of those. will check out.

Keelhaul did a pretty good cover of Just Got Paid by ZZ Top.

Other than the awesomely awesome Rotting Christ, the Weaving Fates by Agatus is a pretty good album, Varathron has some good stuff, and Zemial is decent, depending on the song. I guess Necromantia and Thou Art Lord are alright. I don't really listen to any of this stuff besides Rotting Christ anymore, though. Kawir is a popular one, though I've never listened to them. And Unholy Ritual seems pretty good from what I heard.

Are you aware of The Polka Tulk Blues Band and Earth?

Need I really post this?

" is a subgenre of rock music[1]that developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s, largely in the United Kingdom and the United States.[2]With roots in blues-rock and psychedelic rock, the bands that created heavy metal developed a thick, massive sound, characterized by highly amplified distortion, extended guitar solos, emphatic beats, and overall loudness. Really? I happen to enjoy Reign in Blood the most. The other first four albums are good but didn't make a huge impact on my musical interests as Reign in Blood did. I suppose not everyone will enjoy Reign in Blood but I sure as hell do.

I agree. Reign in Blood is one of my favorite albums of all time. There's really no other Thrash album like it; every song is fast and heavy, just the way Thrash should be.

Exactly, it's fast, heavy and aggressive. Sure, it can be repetitive but the album shows enough characteristics to not having all the songs sound the same as each other. A lot of albums have that problem but not Reign in Blood.

Not at all. Even when I started listening to them, I knew there wasn't a metal feeling to their music.

I'm on the iPod but I already assumed it was from wikipedia.

TSL, we as individuals, and a respective group/club/forum, all agree that Led Zep is NOT and NEVER was heavy metal. We've all given strong arguments (that don't come from wikipedia), that prove this very obvious point.

To put it into perspective for you (unless you're going to try and argue this as well), what you're doing is the equivalent of someone else coming in here trying to tell us that Slipknot is metal.

We have no problem with you listening to them, we have no problem accepting their influence (Led Zep), but we do have a problem with people trying to discuss them in a thread which is based on discussion of metal.

just my 5 cents

Response to Metal Hell 2010-07-06 18:58:48

since its obvious you know absolutely everything about metal why don't you tell me what it is and its characteristics are without simply rewording that wiki def.

And what " points " did you make besides saying they don't sound like sabbath?

Saying that sabbath and purple are heavy metal but zep isn't is fucking ridiculous. Sorry if they're not true enough for you, but the thing is they were a lot heavier than most of the other stuff.

We spent the last page or so doing just that and you're still a ignorant as ever.

This club doesn't set the standard for what is and what is not Metal, but we have our own interpretations that most of us agree on, and Led Zeppelin in the eyes of this place are not Metal.
You can either live with that, believe what you like and shut up about Led Zeppelin being Metal within this club, or you can leave.

Yes, yes, all that's good and all.

But it still doesn't change the fact it's boring and unmemorable as fuck.

Anyway, i'm seeing Death Angel(With Soilwork, Augury, Swashbuckle and some shit band) later this month. THAT is a good thrash metal band.

I'll give you unmemorable for some songs like Necrophobic and Postmortem, but boring?

I dunno. To me, a musically boring album is something like Whiplash's Sit Stand Kneel Prey. There are two amazing Thrash metal songs in there, Climb Out of Hell and the title track, but every other song (apart from Strangeface and Catharsis which are actually really cool and experimental) is just 3-5 minutes of mid-tempo chugging riffs.

I serisouly can't think of a lot of these so tr00 and so kvlt bands. When it comes to Black Metal, bands like Ulver, Wolves In The Throne Room, early Agalloch, Xasthur, Austere and Legion Noire are amongs my favorites :)

Also, I know you are interrested a lot by Melodic Death Metal and Melodic Metalcore.
You might want to check these two bands out if you don't already know them.

Hahaha yeah, the guitars kind of hurt to listen to if your headphones are good. If you're using shitty equipment, then it's not so bad. And I agree, Bergtatt is well recorded.

Can't listen ot it on my iPod, except when I use the thingy to bring the treble down and in my car I always use a treble modifier of -6, which is the lowest you can go. Only other times I use sound modifiers in my car is when I listen to some Death Metal and that I want to feel more of the bass and kick. And I usually only add +1 to the bass.

I'd say the recording of Bergtatt was perfect. Nattens Madrigal's record was also very nice. So raw! So black metal! But the guitars... even if Ponos disagree, are recorded way too loud and way too dirty. If you want to ear the other instruments, you have to turn the volume up, but then, your ears start bleeding and you have to take a break after one song.

Btw, I also fell in love with Victor Wooten. I just love his work :)

In my opinion, boring = / = unmemorable.

If something is boring I tend to forget it and if something is unmemorable it tends to be boring.

I only own one Whiplash album: Power And Pain, and I actually thought that was really boring as well.

Do whiplash have any albums that are, you know, better than that?

Anyway, in nonboring thrash metal news - coroner got back together. I just found this out.
