Stuff about core bands
Yeah, I guess I do tend more towards the core end of things... Not so much by choice, mind you, those bands are just the ones that I come across most often, core being more popular these days among my "friends." (I have too few metalhead friends, unfortunately...)
If you felt up to perhaps providing a list of stuff that's not quite so -core, maybe along the lines of Obscura, Psycroptic type stuff, that would be dope and I would live you forever or something.
There are quite a few bands names Obscura. I assume you are talking about the German band playing Progressive/Technical Death Metal. Right?
And Psycroptic is also tech death.
So might as well start with some Technical Death Metal.
Blood Red Throne is one of the most awesome Death Metal bands out there. Their riffs are unique and still, they define the Death Metal genre perfectly. They have an awesome vocalist, badass guitar and one of the best bassists ever :) You might want to start with their album Altered Genesis and maybe Affiliated with the Suffering.
Benighted, a great act from France. Their most recent work includes a few core elements while they are not as obvious as in let's say, BTM's works. I suggest you listen to Icon and then ICP (Insane Cephalic Production).
Origin is one of the most technical and most brutal bands on the Death Metal scene. I really can't say which one of their albums you should check first. I already own Antithesis and Echoes Of Decimation. Antithesis is my favorite, but the other album is also quite fucking powerful. I'm also thinking about getting Informis Infinitas Inhumanitas.
Gorod, very Technical, but not quite as agressive as what you are used to. I really dig their stuff, especially Process Of A New Decline :)
Blotted Science. A band I always suggest when someone ask me about Death Metal. While they are not straight down Death Metal, you can still feel the influences. My favorite supergroup :) Get their only release so far... The Machinations Of Dementia.
Quo Vadis, very melodic, but not like Melodic Death Metal is melodic. Still an awesome Tech Death band with a great feeling in their music. Get the album Day into Night.
A few other bands I could suggest: Fleshgod Apocalypse, Suffocation, Nile, Decrepit Birth. I don't know these bands a lot, but I know that a lot of the guys in the Hell really like Fleshgod Apocalypse and Nile :)
More Death Metal: Kronos, Cryptopsy (None So Vile is their best album), Cynic, Decapitated, Krisiun, Panzerchrist, Behemoth (I hate their music, but some people like them, some people don't) and Decapitated of course :)
Hope that will help you :)
