Listening to Heritage on simfy now. I'm listening to the third song now, but I guess I already like the album.
Funny: During the "God is dead" part in "Devil's Orchard" I though that it sounded a lot like early Black Sabbath stuff and now I read on wikipedia that the album is written in a 1970 style, heh.

I disagree, usually biggest hits tend to be poppish or generic in some way or another.

Also, not all of the songs I listed in my previous post were the biggest hits off those albums.

No, but three out of every four were.

Four seconds. Still, why not specify that album's last song was an extro?

Like I said, because it's 4 seconds. If you want me to be totally honest, I forgot that track even existed. Not that it matters.

This is metal before metal existed. Cannot deny Prokofiev.

Also listen to Usher waltz, played by john williams. Most metal thing you can play on a classical, next to villa lobos.

Checking some of the crust punk now. A fair amount of them don't do anything for me but I am liking Nausea and Sarabante. Maybe the songs with more depth are what I'm looking for.

Have you heard Dies Irae? I'd say that track is pretty fucking metal. There are some other great classical tracks that are pretty metal (almost anything by Wagner, lol), but I find this one to be probably one of the most metal things ever.

On the subject of heavy classical music, holy fuck. (though you can't play this on a standard guitar, unless you have like 3, even then it would be difficult. Fuckin' tone clusters man).

My cat's suffering finally ended the morning after I made that post. Also, my best friend left for boot camp this Monday. I'm feeling pretty bummed out.

That's a pretty good lineup. I see you didn't put a heart next to Rosetta. Have you listened to them before? They're good. I'd like to go if I only had a ride there. I still hope to see Black Tusk when they play at the Loft along with Thou. My friend's band Ecco 3 is playing that night. They're a really good instrumental band. I watched the one video they have up on youtube and the drummer surprised me.

You are right. Ani shouldn't have said that most bands put their best track at the end of the album. But take progressive bands like Dream Theater, will Learning To Live and Symphony X with The Odyssey. These two tracks are amazing tracks, closing amazing albums :)

Yeah, well those still aren't the best tracks on those albums. I think Metropolis pt. 1 and the Inferno are the best songs on those albums.

Ulver - Nowhere/Catastrophe

dubstep can be good. I don't know much dubstep that I like, though. Breakage has done some nice dubstep like Rain, but a lot of his stuff is more like dnb. One of my friends started making dubstep. I heard his dubstep remix of Pumped up Kicks by Foster the People. Bassnectar counts, right?

Don't forget Black Label Society, Meshuggah, CKY, Cro-Mags and Watain.

I honestly don't know much from those bands. I know Zakk Wylde more for what he's done with Derek Sherinian.

Falling Into Infinity - New Millenium and Hell's Kitchen

Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence - uhh...I got nothing

Scenes From a Memory - Overture 1928, Strange Deja Vu, and Home

Train of Thought - Stream of Consciousness

Octavarium - okay, maybe the title track is the best, but I'm also leaning towards Panic Attack and I Walk Beside You

Systematic Chaos - in the Presence of Enemies Part One and Two are both good, but I think I'll go with part one.

Symphony X's The Odyssey

Inferno, Wicked, and King of Terrors

Symphony X's V - The New Mythology Suite

The last track is indeed sick, but I'd rather listen to Egypt or the Death of Balance. I love the percussion in that one and how it switches up.

Queensryche's Empire

Really? Anybody Listening? I think Best I Can, Della Brown, and Silent Lucidity are so much better.

Cynic's Focus

I think the Veil of Maya is the best on Focus.

All four Atheist albums

I dunno. Some of my favorites of theirs would be Mother Man and I Deny.

Every Death album with the exception of Human

eh, I think the best on the Sound of Perseverance is Scavenger of Human Sorrow or maybe Bite the Pain.

Pantera's Cowboys From Hell

The last track is awesome, but I think the Sleep is even better.

I do agree that there are a lot of albums that end with a great song and sometimes they can be the best, but there are also a lot of albums that begin with their strongest song.

Or if you like black metal, there's a pretty sweet Mexican black metal band that has a folkish sound and they have an ancient Mayan theme to them.

Apokatastasia is a great, unique sounding band that I recommended to Duff a while ago. If you like the prettier side of metal like Agalloch and such, you'll probably like their album Shedding. It's a criminally underrated album. fantastic.

If you're interested at all in avant-garde metal, Solefald, Arcturus, Ved Buens Ende, and Virus are great bands for starters.

And for stoner/sludge type stuff, you must listen to Keelhaul. And for a more atmospheric, trippy example, check out Ufomammut. That right there is the ultimate tree music.

Anybody Listening? is my all time favorite Queensryche song though.

To each their own, but I find it odd that you'd prefer that over Anarchy X, Revolution Calling, Operation Mindcrime, Speak, Spreading the Disease, Della Brown, Empire, Silent Lucidity, and Best I Can. Have any of you guys heard Manowar's version of Flight of the Bumblebee played on the piccolo bass? It's insane. Point well taken, I agree. I wasn't even thinking about this album. Haha

Images and Words - Metropolis Pt. 1

Every song on that album is awesome, I think it's all just preference.

Awake - Erotomania

I think you're crazy. Space Dye Vest is perhaps one of DT's best songs ever, and is definitely one of Kevin Moore's greatest accomplishments. Erotomania is just a wankfest, regardless of how great it is. (awake is my favorite DT album)

a Change of Seasons - a Change of Seasons (though the big medley is great)

I meant albums, I wasn't counting the EP. Although, I really couldn't chose between The Big medley and ACOS - both are incredible.

Scenes From a Memory - Overture 1928, Strange Deja Vu, and Home

Eh, I don't really have a favorite song on the album. But Finally Free IS great.

Train of Thought - Stream of Consciousness

Am I the only one who thinks this song is terribly overrated? I find it so incredibly boring. Actually, the whole album is overrated. This Dying Soul and In The Name Of God are the only songs on it I truly like.

Octavarium - okay, maybe the title track is the best, but I'm also leaning towards Panic Attack and I Walk Beside You

Octavarium, I Walk Beside You and The Answers Lie Within are the only songs I even listen to anymore off this album.

Systematic Chaos - in the Presence of Enemies Part One and Two are both good, but I think I'll go with part one.

I honestly wish they were combined in one track, I love em both and it would make it easier for me to listen to them. haha

Inferno, Wicked, and King of Terrors

Eh, dislike the entire album aside for the title track.

The title track aside, I feel that The Odyssey is painfully mediocre, generic and predictable.

Although, to be fair, The Odyssey(album as a whole) is one of Russel Allen's best vocal performances to date. And Jason kicks ass on this album, like always. But all three Michael's were terribly uninspired with this one.

Cynic's Focus
I think the Veil of Maya is the best on Focus.

I'm probably the only person in the world who thinks Veil Of Maya is a terribly overrated song. Sure the chorus is amazing because of the catchy robot / harsh vocals and the amazing drumming going on, but outside of the chorus I just find that song to be eh.

Veil Of Maya is probably my least favorite song on Focus, actually. (That being said, it's still a good song. I love Focus)

Pantera's Cowboys From Hell
The last track is awesome, but I think the Sleep is even better.

That whole album was awesome. It's a shame every other album Pantera ever released was totally mediocre at best.

I quite enjoy Paganini. I'm more into the " exotic " music though. Like the Prokofiev piece. With western culture, all of the major keys get drilled into our head. Like when our mothers sang twinkle twinkle little star or something cheesy like that. My music teacher describes it as " having an idea where it is going ". Which is why I want to learn piano. There are plenty of "evil " sounding guitar songs but its always sounds better on piano or organ. Like Bach's toccata and fugue in D minor.

Have you heard the latest Solefald and Virus albums? They're both really good. Well, the new Solefald is plain amazing, really. The guest vocalist in Tittentattenteksti reminds me of Julie Christmas from Battle of Mice and Made out of Babies. Though the song gets kinda goofy, it still sounds good (I mean, she throws in some gibberish straight out of Tutti Frutti).

Also, I'm playing the title track and my niece just said "I like this". She's awesome. She always asks me to play metal for her. She even digs some death/black sounding stuff. It gets her jumping around and banging her head and sometimes sorta air guitaring.

Sweet, I love that stuff. :)

yup. They should have stuck with the style of that album.

Indeed. It was groovish and such that it was unique, but it was still thrashie enough that it was actually GOOD. And phill's voice was totally douche-sounding yet either.

And I can't believe you don't even like Inferno.

Don't get me wrong, I used to fucking worship Symphony X. But in the long run, i've been listening to SX since 2002 or 2003 and i've just grown to be VERY tired of The Odyssey. It's their only album I can honestly say i'm sick of.

Have you heard the latest Solefald

Yes, love it!

and Virus albums?

Unaware there was one, will check it out. Haha

It's always the fucking city. So many bands overlook venues elsewhere in this state.

Pretty sure he's being a sarcastic bayustid.

It's called the Agent That Shapes the Desert. It's pretty similar to the Black Flux. I still think Carheart is their best, but the other two albums are still worth hearing.

Possibly the most brutal classical ever!

Yup, and their most recent album was a huge dissapointment. I wrote a review about it for Metal Archives.

To be fair, that one is part of the metalsucks fest I mentioned.

That day is Cynic, Obscura, 3, Scale The Summit, Roseta, Last Chance To Reason, A Life Once Lost, The Red Chord and I don't remember whom else. Cynic is headlining.

You should go to both or all three days of that fest, give us a big report on the whole thing. ;D

(The third day is that thursday, the "pre-party" show is the Mayhem tour - but you can get a three day ticket and save money more then individual one day tickets)

Ah, yeah, that would make sense. haha

I honestly wish they were combined in one track, I love em both and it would make it easier for me to listen to them. haha

I agree with this very much. Why split that song into two parts when Octavarium was just as long and no one complained about the length of it. Even if there were complaints, In the Presence of Enemies does better with its pacing.

I have a personal attachment to Anybody Listening? as it was my first Queensryche songs, and I just find it generally a very beautiful and touching song. Especially vocally and lyrically.

I don't see why we're arguing about this particular song. It's damn good, what else can we say?

I just read that Candlemass are going to record one more album and then they'll be on their farewell tour. Damn, first Cathedral and now Candlemass. I've never seen them live before so I better take that one and only chance when they appear in the UK.
