Sonic Youth are like, awesome. Seriously they're like Avant-Garde rock, or experimental or some crazy shit like that.

My stoned opinion.
I've not heard Metallica's Stone Cold Crazy but Breadfan, yeah, doesn't beat the original. It's a shame Metallica's cover of Breadfan is more recognisable than the original. :(

mine is probably acid house, but i dont actuallty know many AH artists, so my fav non metal band is probably bomb the bass, if i exclude rock

My last.fm page would suggest I like Electro ambient and Trance. I guess that's correct. I also like a lot of different rock genres... like Post-Rock, some Soft-Rock and some Progressive Rock. Jazz and Classical music as to be in my favorite non-metal genres, also :)

Favorite non-metal band:

No... I think they are cool. Not my favorite genre, but I used to be more into that kind of core music. Can't see why someone would complain. I was listenning to their stuff, yesterday... and really... there is no chug-chug riffs (there is some, but even metal bands have some), there are a few breakdowns in their music, but they do not build their songs around the breakdown like all the shitcore bands do nowadays. These breakdowns are well incorporated in the music. And as I always said, if you can do it right, I don't see any problems with breakdowns.

I think BFMV are as metal as metalcore will ever get. They have a lot of Heavy Metal riffs in their music. You can really feel the Iron Maiden influence in a lot of their songs. They also have a lot of Melodic Death Metal elements in their music. I will never be able to diss BFMV. They are a very good metalcore band.

You almost made me want to cry. I was reading this and thinking "right, very right, right, right".
But almost every Melodic Metalcore bands don't have those chug-chug riffs, like Trivium, or Killswitch Engage... But when you talk about Metalcore, like As Blood Runs Black and Job For A Cowboy, that shit is annoying and boring... But I've to admit, what I prefer in BFMV is Matt Tuck's emotive clean voice, it makes me want to cry... it's very touching (lol).

Also, I saw you guys discussing about Death, and saying that "The Sound of Perserverance" is their best album, so I decided to listen to it... I'll make a short review after listening to it.

When it comes to music and emotions. Two of my favorites among the genre (Let's put Melodic Death Metal, Gothenburg Metal and (good) Metalcore all together) are Threat Signal and Scar Symmetry. I suggest you listen to the album Pitch Black Progress by SS. Trivium are dissed in the Metal Hell mainly because of their tendency to riff-off riffs from other bands :P. And I must say that Killswitch Engage has a few songs I don't hate :)

My favorite of the three you have listed is still Bullet For My Valentine, for the reasons I have listed earlier. Some of their riffs would fit perfectly in some Heavy Metal songs. Some of their riffs really are metal, both leads and rhythms. If I'd take just small parts of their songs and make them listen to metalheads I'm quite sure they wouldn't notice it's a core band, especially if you leave out the chorus, which are pretty much what make them core :P

It's an awesome album. I've been through some of the tracks and I think their Judas Priest cover is fucking epic :)

I went to the cd store yesterday, ordered the album... I should get it during the next two weeks :)

Ok... here comes the review:

I enjoyed it, I was expecting for some thrashy riffs, and the album has it, because of the transition Thrash to Death, but something I wasn't expecting for was the melodious riffs, because "Death" being a pure Death Metal band from what I heard here, I thought it would sound more brutal, it is, but I thought it just wouldn't sound so melodious. Other thing that has pretty big level of greatness is the bass, that in some musics, have an excelent composition. Something I'm not understading, maybe because I don't know shit about music, is Chuck Schuldiner's voice, that sound very Black Metal, because it seems to have an high-pitched growling instead of a low-pitched as in most Death Metal bands. Anyway, it was an excelent album and I must say they're unique.
I would give them a slim 9/10, because I think if I give them only a strong 8/10 it would not be enough, very good.

Like in many genres, there as been different waves of Death Metal. And Death, being the first Death Metal band, is in the first wave. In the first wave of Death Metal, growls were not really used. Vocals were more thrashy and the music was not as brutal as it is in Modern Death Metal. They are not really black metal vocals. If I had to compare these vocals I would compare them to thrash metal vocals. Still, these kind of vocals were used a lot by death metal bands of the first wave.

I suggest you listen to Atheist, Morbid Angel and other Old-School Death Metal bands, as you seem to know more about modern death metal bands, listenning to these bands will bring you great knowledge of the Death Metal scene.

Yo, I don't know why so many people think this, but Death wasn't the first DM band. They also weren't the first band to use the name Death, either, and the real first Death (as far as I know) is a lot better.

The other death isn't DM though, so you really can't compare.

Also Death wasn't the first to release a studio album but they were playing music before anyone else.

Yeah, but all I'm saying is I think they're a more solid band. You should listen to them, too.

Also Death wasn't the first to release a studio album but they were playing music before anyone else.

Naw, G. Death was one of the first bands, but that doesn't mean they're the first. The first DM band is irrelevant and I don't really care about who was first, but that's beside the point. Death wasn't the first. So why are you even trying to argue about it? If you look into it, you'll see that bands like Voor, Master, Master, and Necrophagia, etc, and many more formed before Death. I don't know the first DM band, and like I said, I don't care about it. Even if I did know I'd keep it to myself, I don't want kvlt kiddies dickriding a band just for being first. (Not calling you guys kvlt kiddies, but you know how it goes, right?)

Anyway, I just wanted to clear up a common misconception concerning Death.

everyone but master formed a year later than death. And even then Death was more death metal while the others were " kinda" there. They were more of an influence, not so much the first.

If you want old school death metal listen to Possessed.

Seriously, the first death metal band.

Also, i've never listened to Decide despite them being 1st wave death metal.

What are some albums by them I should check out?

I like legion, it sounds pretty bad-ass. Their vocalist uses a harmonizer to get the multiple voice effect.
