Yeah, I didn't like the vocals either.

I thought they really just didn't fit with the style of the band. Spastic Ink, Blotted Science... and basically all that Ron Jarzombeck writes is made to be instrumental music. He probably could write some good shit with lyrics, but so far, his best albums are all instrumental.

It's also fuckin awesome when you realise that Ron Jarzombeck plays all of the dialogues of Thumper from the movie Bambi in the song A Wild Hare :)
haha yeah. I prefer to watch a video of the scenes synched with that song.

When I listen to the song now I remember all the words said by Thumper and I can easily sing along :P

I thought Nanonuclear Cyborg Summoning was freakin' awesome, but what I heard from Skullgrid wasn't as good.

I only heard Skullgrid... that may be why I didn't really got into their stuff. The reviewers from Metal Archives pretty much share this opinion with you.

The other bands I mentioned aren't amazing, but they're pretty good instrumental progressive metal.

I don't know the other bands you have listed. Can't say that I know a lot of instrumental progressive metal bands either... well... with the exception of the few we already mentionned.

I could still throw Liquid Tension Experiment in :)

Seriously, their first album is the fucking shit. I can't believe people who say it just sounds like noise to them. It's not hard to understand the music.

I know... it's great prog. But I know a lot of people have an hard time listenning to that kind of prog. Cause you really know Spastic Ink is the definition of prog. There is like... one or two parts with 4/4 time signature... and the rest of the time it's just... fucking complex prog stuff. Their stuff is really worth listenning to :) So getting used to it is important.

I didn't know I had to sleep with the other horsemen...

Sweet!

And I think Spastic Ink are waaaaay better than Blotted Science. Ink Complete is obviously better than Compatible too, but I did enjoy the vocals, kinda reminded me of cheesey Paul Gilbert stuff like Racer X. Blotted Science were kinda dull for me, mainly cause of the Tech Death tone, just doesn't do it for me. But as for Tech Death they're top notch.

As for Sleep Terror, I'm not as impressed by them as I first was once you start noticing that Luke never merges riff into riff but rather stops-starts-stops-starts it becomes difficult to admire his composition skills.
And Behold... the Arctopus are ace. Chris Marston has the best hair cut ever. I can comfort Sam somewhat by assuring you all that I will one day have to grow my hair in order to get his ridiculously long mohawk thing.

They are amazing... I think they still can't be placed under one genre of metal. Nev and I both used the Tech Death classification when talking about them. But we all know they are not straight down Death Metal. There is something amazing about their stuff. And I think it resides in the fact that Jarzombeck is great when it comes to mixing genres together to bring music to another level. While it's still influenced by Tech Death, their music transcend this genre classification. Jarzombeck is a Metal God :)

Guess I'm in on this one too. I'm not a total metal head or anything but I must say that I do enjoy listening to some of the music the genre has to offer. My preferences out of this genre are:

Daisuke Ishiwatari (I love this man to death. He only made music for the Guilty Gear and BlazBlue soundtracks, but these soundtracks consist of some of the greatest instrumental works I've heard in my entire life. That's saying a lot just for video game soundtrack, honestly.)
-----------------------------------
In Flames (I prefer their Clayman, Colony, and a fraction of their Soundtrack to Your Escape albums. I don't really like their newer stuff, it just doesn't sound like the same greatness anymore... :\)
-----------------------------------
Five Finger Death Punch (I think the only song these guys have made that I really don't like is The Bleeding. Just a little too heavy for my tastes.)
-----------------------------------
Slipknot (I'm just a tad picky on their songs)
-----------------------------------
Dope (American Apathy, enough said. Unfortunately it's one of the only albums I own from Dope.)
-----------------------------------
Ministry (haven't heard much but what I have heard, definitely a check off for a'okay)
-----------------------------------
Slayer (even if a lot of their songs sound almost identical, they're STILL good regardless)
-----------------------------------
Celldweller (This guy is pretty damn good. Though I don't think he belongs here as an entirety of an artist, he has made a few songs that fit perfectly in the metal genre)
-----------------------------------
System of a Down (I've kind of fallen away from SoaD over time, but I threw them here anyways.)
-----------------------------------
Rammstein (come on, almost everyone loves a little Rammstein)

There's more artists that I like in this genre, but I just threw a few out that I can think of off of the top of my head. There's not many, I know, and it's because ever since I listened to what Daisuke Ishiwatari had to offer, my standards shot through the roof. I'm glad to have stumbled across Metal Hell though, maybe with the preferences I've posted, you all can help me find a little more that I might like.

Jarzombek is literally the best guitarist I've ever heard. I still prefer Buckethead because of his image and diversity, but he has his off moments which can only be expected given his output. But Ron's talent, tone and composition is just outstanding. As far as Instrumental Metal albums and a guitar virtuoso one Ink Complete is untoppable.

Jarzombek sounds familiar, I have yet to look into it. Buckethead I completely forgot about in my first post, lol. I agree, he is pretty damn good but he really does have his off moments now and again. I saw some convo about Ink Complete on this topic and with that, I think I'll look into them as well.

You do know that you have to make a list of ten metal bands when you join?
We also do not accept metalcore and nu-metal as metal in the Metal Hell.

So from the few bands you have listed...
In Flames is good (even if their Nu-Metal/Metalcore shit is lame)
Five Finger Death Punch isn't metal... They are groovecore or some kind of shit like this.
Slipknot is Nu-Metal.
Dope is Nu-Metal and Industrial.
Ministry... what the fuck are they exactly lol :P I really don't know if they count. I guess so :P I don't really know their stuff though.
Slayer is one of the big four of Thrash Metal, so yes.
Celldweller are Industrial Metal... don't think we accept that genre either.
Soad and Rammstein are Nu-Metal and Industrial Metal.

Looking through your list I must tell you that you wouldn't really fit in the Metal Hell. You have 2 bands on your list. We could suggest a few bands you could like if you are still interrested in joinning. I'm not trying to be a bitch to you, but if you are really into Nu-Metal and Industrial Metal, you won't like what you'll find here.

I can still give you a fuck suggestions based on the two metal bands you have on your list.

Somewhat similar to In Flames or Melodic Death Metal stuff...
Dark Tranquillity
Scar Symmetry
Soilwork
Arch Enemy
At The Gates

Somewhat similar to Slayer or Thrash Metal stuff...
Megadeth
Kreator
Sodom
Anthrax
Exodus
Testament
Overkill

If you are still interrested in joinning make us a new list with 10 metal bands on it :)

Ink Complete isn't a them. It's an album by Spastic Ink... Ron Jarzombek's band.
Check out Blotted Science too for heavier Jarzombek.

Funny you talk about diversity here...

How is Buckethead more diversified than Jarzombeck?
I mean... Jarzombeck was in Watchtower, than Spastic Ink and Blotted Science and he also has a solo project. Not only are these bands all very different, but even from tracks to tracks these bands have a lot of diversity in their music.

I wouldn't say that...

Buckethead has made a lot of more commercial work. When you are well-known on both the popular and underground scene it's easier to makes collabs with various artists. And when money is not a problem, which is probably the case for mister Guitar Hero, than I guess you have more time to work on a lot of different projects.

Last but not least... Buckethead has touched more different musical genres than Ron, but Jarzombeck excel in all the genres he played and Buckethead doesn't :P

I don't think Ron's musical history is that diverse, though I haven't heard this "Happy Kitties" project, and he was in a power metal band in the 80's. still, not really.

I've heard a lot of industrial enthusiasts swear that Rammstein is not industrial.

If you want good industrial metal, check out Godflesh. I remember liking Dimension F3h as well, but I have not listened in a long time.

Not commercial? Dude... Fuckin Guitar Hero... Isn't that fucking commercial enough for you?
I also never said he was more talented (which he his). I said that his work was better. I think that what Jarzombeck writes is awesome. He write awesome guitar, awesome bass, awesome guitar. Buckethead only writes awesome guitar. All his work is based on the guitar work. Buckethead without the guitar is nothing, while Blotted Science and Spastic Ink would still have two of my favorite bassists if Ron Jarzombeck was not there. Don't worry... I know that these bands wouldn't exist without the guitar. But what I mean is that he's a better songwritter. Jarzombeck is not awesome because he can wank a guitar, he's awesome cause he writes amazing stuff. Buckethead writes good guitar... The other instruments are still good, but there is too much emphasis on the guitar in Buckethead's work.

Not really. So he's wrote a song for it? So what? No one goes 'Oh whoa Buckethead I love him' its just 'Whoa Jordan is hard and I can play it. Go me!'
He's hardly commercial.

Anyway, this is going on too long and given Buckethead's style its not relevant. They're both amazing. All I'll say is listen to Colma, a beautiful, beautiful album :).
