Metalcore? I'd go with deathcore really. There is good deathcore... and there is that bouncy shit based on chuggy riffs, lame breakdowns, angry screamer, bad lyrics and uncreative melodies, riffs and silly hardcore attitude :)

The fact that it all sounds the same. Literally. God fucking damn it. Plus it's watered down melodeath meshed up for mainstream consumption. SOTS era At the Gates shit. Metalcore is for little kiddies with no ear for quality.

I don't like metalcore vocals. And I don't like the punk influence; it doesn't sound like the punk influence in thrash, which I totally dig.

For the most part, it's usually only the clean vocals in metalcore bands that are good.

I don't like the punk influence in popular music at all. I don't mind a punk influence in metalcore anywhere nearly as much as I mind punk influences in pop.

Also, hardcore was basically created by both punk and thrash metal influences and metalcore wouldn't exist metalcore - so I guess it's good they take influence from their way back roots.

But whatever.

I thought it did too! the early stuff that was linked kinda sound like old venom!

Kreator is awesome, that's why.

also, I don't know who was talking about alcest, but I just saw them live. I prefer it on cd though, not really a live band.

I was going to see them but they canceled and because they were the most popular band the three local and far less popular bands had to cancel as well.

I was really pissed.

On the subject of Alcest, their two albums are great.

BTBAM's album Alaska, Threat Signal's first album and Sylosis's only album are the only metalcore albums i've listened to that I like

If you can recommend me any other good metalcore albums then please do so.

No, but I've heard enough to know that it's a vapid scene that's a perpetual cycle of ripping each other off for money. There's nothing good to be found in it, those who disagree are A) naive enough to think that there's something to be good in it or B) like it for reasons that I can't fathom.

Never listenned to Alaska, I only know Colors. I think it's alright... nothing special about that album though. Kind of repetitive and unoriginal. They have interresting prog elements and some jazzy stuff, but BTBAM is not my favorite core band, at least, not from what I've heard...

Threat Signal's first album is unbelievable. It's great :) It has great thrash metal elements, some melodeath and some metalcore elements. Pretty awesome stuff. Dunno about Sylosis.

Core, like many genres, can take many forms. You will find it at a certain percentage in various different bands. Some bands, even bands considered metal like Benighted and Through The Eyes Of The Dead have some core elements.

It's like in any musical genres. Take some and leave some. There is a lot of uninspired, jumpy chuggy-chuggy riffs and silly breakdowns with angry teenage vocals and retarded pig squeals. But you'll find interresting stuff if you dig deeper. Leave the shit like War from a Harlots Mouth... and Molotov Solution aside, these bands are shit... and try finding some good stuff. Like Animetal said, BTBAM may have some interresting stuff and Threat Signal is rather good. I have listed a few other albums you could check out if you want to. Tell me what you think :P

BTBAM wouldn't be as annoying if they would stop trying to be prog, and cut down on the Necrophagist-esque approach to songwriting.

Threat Signal sounded like the metalcore bands I described above. Melodic intro that could be compared to sugar pop rock bands like the Beatles, then breakdown while still keeping it melodic. Turn up the distortion, and let loose the pseudo-growls. Next, why not some band boy singing? Fuck no.

Now, the only band I ever liked with metalcore attached to it would be Deadguy, it wasn't so much metalcore as it was super angry hardcore music. I don't mean macho tough guy wannabes likeEmmure or Pantera, just that the music was angry and intense. Oh well, you either like it or you don't. If metalcore was like that, I probably wouldn't hate it as much. One can only wonder how different music would of been ifAt the Gates never put out Slaughter of the Soul, and In Flames never existed.

Ugh I HATE the clean vocals. All the clean core vocals I've heard have either been nasal pop-punk whines or tough-guy shouts.

But whatever.

It's weird because thrash was really influenced by punk, which was then influenced by metal, which is now being recombined with music that it once inspired and influenced, so it's like a big musical circlejerk. Or musical inbreeding, if you'd like to think of it like that.

Response to Metal Hell 2010-05-09 05:28:29

Most of the metalcore I've heard goes like this:

Melodic intro
Melodic intro backed by the rest of the band
Same intro leading up to the first verse this time with double bass
Growling vocals on a big heavy-ish/fast riff
Chorus containing clean vocals with elements of the intro packed into the chorus riff
repeat x2
breakdown
breakdown overstays its welcome by a minute
end.

But that's just me. I do like SOME metalcore, and only some, even then I can't think of the ones I do enjoy, but yeah. I like the clean vocals when they're not crap.

Happy birthday to me for yesterday.

Some weeks ago I realised that I don't like Metalcore, I like Melodic Metalcore, it may sound stupid but it's not, As Blood Runs Black play Metalcore, Trivium plays Melodic Metalcore, just an example. If you hear ABRB and Trivium you'll notice a huge difference. What l like in Melodic Metalcore is the emotion on it.

The only thing that annoys me about metalcore is the tacked-on clean chorus that every song seems to have. I could enjoy most metalcore if not for that.

I think it's a good album, but Kreator have better albums.

Like Metallica's black album, despite it being good and their most famous album - it doesn't compare to Master Of Puppets or Ride The Lightning.

It's the first time I ever ear the comparison between BTBAM and Necrophagist. I guess you are the only one to ever ear this lol. You need to know that Necrophagist are not the only guitar wankers out there.

Melodic intro??? The freakin fuck you are talking about? Go through the first 7 tracks of the first album, only A New Beginning and Seing Red have a melodic intro. All the others, are way more thrash metal influenced intro then metalcore... Hahaha! loose pseudo-growls? This guy as a powerful fucking voice no matter what is your favorite shit. They also have the rare good breakdowns I have heard. I don't see why you think that using the word "breakdown" is actually an argument to explain why core is bad. If you can do it go, then why not. And now you are taking a shit on The Beatles lol?

Counterbalance is one of those "songs with a melodic intro" you are talking about?
And even if it is kind of melodic... it's probably cause they are melodic death metal at some point...
