Amazon themselves are good but don't offer the cheapest prices. Plus, it can take time for them to ship out certain albums. As for the Amazon sellers, it's a matter of taking risks. Only a minority have 99/100% positive feedback while most are around 90 - 96. Sure, it's still high but there's a good chance of something bad happening to your order. I've had some bad experiences before.

Melodic Death Metal as poppish song structures.

God. Fucking. Dammit. If you're just going to throw that stupid term around, you may as well call other parts of metal pop and compare them to Britney Spears. I hear catchy choruses, catchy lead melodies and sing along parts in many other metal bands who aren't melodeath in the slightest.

With catchy chorus, catchy lead melodies, sing along parts, clean vocals with easy words to remember.

In that case, you may as well call Iron Maiden pop. That's why your logic fails and why the term pop should never be thrown around in heavy metal.

Stop calling me a retard for stating obvious facts.

Obvious facts? Give me a break.

Doom, Doom, Avant-Garde.

Those are the exactly the bands I was going to recommend, aside from Unearthly Trance, though I heard some stuff from them and liked it.

Umbra Nihil is alright, also. I especially like the song Words Left Unspoken, though I like the intro more than the rest of the song.

yes. Snailking is a fucking trip, and so is Lucifer Songs...and Idolum. Godlike Snake doesn't really stick out in my mind, though. I like to get high, lie down on my bed with my subwoofer above my head and my speakers lying on either side of my head, and turn that shit on. stare at the ceiling...buuuuuh.

Amazon is good. I use it all the time. Although I once ordered a Tyr album that took more than a month to freaking get here. You can download from Amazon, too. I plan on downloading Yesterday's New Quintet - Angels Without Edges.

On a lighter note, I finally got myself to write up a review for Candlemass' Epicus Doomicus Metallicus. Probably not much for those who have known this album for a long time now but I wanted to review it myself and share my thoughts. I'm hoping to write up a few more reviews but I'm not promising anything.

Only once this has happened to me and that was back in 2006 when I was trying to get Blind Guardian's Nightfall in Middle-Earth. The other two bad experiences I've had with Amazon sellers was one giving me the wrong CD while the other didn't even have my desired CD in stock and left me hanging. Had to file a complaint for the latter.

Well, that was through one of those different vendors and not from Amazon itself, yes? I ordered a VHS tape once from a different vendor and it never showed up and they never responded to e-mail, but it was like a dollar. maybe 2 or 3 dollars. But I've ordered used stuff from other people a couple times and that was the only time I had a problem. The Tyr album was straight from Amazon.

Agreed. Gorod is one of the few technical death metal bands that don't fill their songs full of pointless wankery nowadays.

Gorod sounds exactly like every other Necrophagist clone I've heard. If you think that's not wank, then what is?

You'll probably like Necrophagist if you think sweep picking and guitar solos every 20 seconds and constant drum rolls/fills are better than actually writing songs, because you know, being technical simply for the sake of being technical is awesome. Fuck songwriting, and song progression. You know what, fuck everything that doesn't have sweeps. Yeah.

Pop =/= Britney Spears. By pop I mean any commercial or radio friendly music. John Mayer let's say... makes pop music. It's not pop like Britney Spears but it's commercial music. John Mayer makes very good music, but it does have these specific sturctures I was mentionning.

In that case, you may as well call Iron Maiden pop. That's why your logic fails and why the term pop should never be thrown around in heavy metal.

With the definition of pop I just gave, yes, Iron Maiden would be a more popish and commercial brand of metal. I mean, there are reasons why they are popular even with non-metalheads.

If you really can't understand why I say melodeath is more commercial than a lot of other metal genres, than I fucking give up dude...

I say Origin and Benighted make good technical death metal bands. Origin's technical parts fits perfectly in the melodies.

I consider myself a pretty big Candlemass fan, but there are a few albums that don't live up to the others (like any band, really). Rob Lowe is an amazing vocalist, but I really don't feel like he is the right fit for the band. He has an amazing voice but I just don't get the feeling that I get when I listen to him as opposed to listening to Messiah.

Bruce, have you seen Lowe Candlemass live? I thought he performs the Messiah material really well. Obviously Messiah voice is beyond anyone elses, but he did himself a great justice in my book :).

I've seen videos, but never in person. They've never come to my neck of the woods. I know he does the stuff well, but like you said Messiah's voice is beyond anyone else's. Plus, there is the energy that Messiah brought to the live shows. Nothing beats the hammerbanging or whatever he calls how he headbangs. I call it hammerbanging. I guess I'm just not sold on Rob in Candlemass yet. Solitude Aeturnus is amazing but I don't know about Candlemass.

There is two fucking real metalheads among my friends. Me and my best friend, all the others are fucking melodeath/metalcore fans. Don't you fucking understand that even if melodeath is a very nice genre, there is still a lot of fake metalheads among melodeath fans? You know, kids who listen to melodeath and metalcore ONLY with the very few common exceptions, Megadeth, Metallican, Iron Maiden.

There are metalheads and there are these fake motherfuckin teenage metal fans. And I'm not talking about being tr00 and kvlt, I'm talking about having diversified tastes in metal, and knowing how to listen to metal music. Anytime I try to make them listen to death/black/folk/doom metal or any genre that is not FUCKING MELODEATH, they don't like it. So you say it's garbage, I say it's fucking common sense.

So... Gorod?

PenisClown said it was good, but I've seen on last.fm that some people think they share similarities with Spawn Of Possession. I don't know about Gorod, I'll try to download some of their wankery soon. But Spawn Of Possession, while being kind of good is not the best technical death metal ever. So what, are they really similar to Gorod?
