How can you only listen to Shadows of the Sun and make a final decision on new Ulver? Every album has an entirely different feel, and Shadows of the Sun is by far the most subdued, ambient one of the bunch. Get Perdition City or Blood Inside.

I'm going to Birmingham Metalfest tomorrow morning, should be a larf.

My mates band Answers are opening so obviously I gotta show my support, by getting wasted and throwing bags of crisps at them while they play.

The 3 hour coach journey will be interesting, seeing as we're allowed to drink on it :)

and the actual event will basically consist of a few hundred metalheads getting wankered and moshing, good times.

Pretty much every single band is deathcore, so natually noone here will give a shit, but I like it so blaregh.

I love metal like crackheads love anal. and crack.

I think you're giving Twifags a little too much credit.
And Cradle of Filth.

Oh shit. Paradox.

Last part, I totally agree with. Too bad there is only two black metal albums in their discography (and I have posters for both of these albums in my bedroom)

You should really give a try to Perdition City. I think it's an amazing album :)

Care to list some good Burzum songs? I'm a little mad because I just listened to an 8 minute loop of the same synth noise.

I didn't make a final decision. I made a decision based upon Shadows of the Sun, which as I said, was the only new Ulver I've heard.

Then you should definitely give a try to some of their older electronic stuff.
Perdition City is awesome when you sit through the whole album :)

On the subject of Ulver, I did try listening to some of their songs a while ago but was surprised at the electronic elements when I was expecting metal. I should have done further research but I only picked up a few songs to see if I could enjoy them or not. Turns out I wasn't listening to the right songs. If the earlier albums are any good, I'll give them a go.

I highly suggest that you listen to tracks from Bergtatt and Nattens Madrigal.

Bergtatt:
Troldskog Faren Vild
Soelen Gaaer Bag Aase Ned
Graablick Blev Hun Vaer
Een Stemme Locker
Ind I Fjeldkamrene

Nattens Madrigal:
Hymne I - Wolf And Fear
Hymne II - Wolf And The Devil
Hymne III - Wolf And Hatred
Hymne IV - Wolf And Man
Hymne V - Wolf And The Moon
Hymne VI - Wolf And Passion
Hymne VII - Wolf And Destiny
Hymne VIII - Wolf And The Night

Some tracks on Kveldssanger are quite interresting also :)
Not metal, but nice folk music.

Not bad from what I've heard. They're definitely the albums I'd look into if I were to listen to more Ulver.

And this band moved onto making electronic music later on in their career? That's quite a change in musical style.

some more !!!

I wouldn't say "this band"... I would say Garm...
Only thing is that he kept the name Ulver for both of his musical projects.
Let's say he's a little like Ron Jarzombeck, but all of his musical projects fall under the name Ulver. The line-up of the band changed a few times. Only Garm has been in the band since the beginning. None of the guys who are in the band today (except for Garm) were in the band in the time of Bergtatt, Nattens Madrigal and Kveldssanger.

Moshpits are fucking stupid anyway. I cant understand what is so fun about them, i go to a concert to enjoy the music, not to get pushed around by a bunch of assholes.

This is a new disease related with core music invading metal shows.
Angry hardcore douche bags with too much testosterone. They swing their fists around cause the breakdowns help them release their anger towards all the people they would totally like to fucking punch in the mouth.

Only times I got fucking punched in the face at a show was during these core acts between the real metal bands...

I went to see In Flames (I know... they sound very core nowadays). Gojira was great, but I got punched during 36 Crazyfists...
Some people just take these guys band's name too seriously...

The only reason I'm ever in a moshpit is to get to the rail, more fun there, and you can actually see the band, and they can see you, etc, and it makes it all the more fun. Also, just jumping around and getting pushed around adds to the experience, don't like it, stay out of the circle pits :/

At Megadeth/Slayer, some dude fell over in the mosh pit (don't know how, it was tight as fuck in there), and all of a sudden we all made a big circle around him, gave him room and helped him up, when we knew he was ok we closed the circle and started moshing again. That's how pits should be.
