Also the new Fear Factory kicks ass, Dino is back where he belongs.
If you want to join post 10 bands, please.

9 more, Fear Factory counts as metal >:(

And I agree, new FF kicks serious ass, some awesome tracks on there, sounds like a mix of old stuff with new ideas. I like it a lot.

Welcome back dude.

So what's everyone's favorite black metal band? Right now I really love DragonLord and Dark Funeral. I also want to see if there are other top quality black metal bands that I've missed.

Haha, I sure do. I didn't care for the vocals, except for the epic highs the vocalist held for 20 seconds and the guitars. And I agree with you guys, Walk was pretty annoying and definitely overrated, but the solo was pretty cool. No matter how bad or good Phil was, Dime was without a doubt an amazing guitarist.

And about Blood Tsunami; they've got some sweet tracks, I actually heard about them a while ago when I goggled thrash metal. I wish they had more albums though.

Anyway sorry I was an asshole earlier. I was PMS'ing and what not.

I just listened to the best Industrial Metal band ever, well they're more like Industrial Black Metal but stills fucking Industrial Metal excelent shit... Malignant Eternal, I don't know if you ever heard of them, I just heard of them yesteday and I love it. I am also finding a new love with Behemoth, Dimmu Borgir and Catamenia.

Anorexia Nervosa. I can't stress enough how unbelievable, yet underrated this band is. Redemption Process is by far their greatest album, you must check it out.

If you missed these guys, you don't know what you're missing man.

Anorexia Nervosa.

They're good, but they could be alot better if they tried alot harder. I kinda feel that they focus more on being chaotic and "true" then anything else. They are good though and I have an LP of Daudenhaus - their best release.

As for DragonLord, I prefer Testament and Dark Funeral is amazing, but their new stuff is shitty.

Favorites (in no particular order): Marduk, Avichi, Ovskum, Emperor, Angantyr, Corpus Christii, Dark Fortress, Rotting Christ, Deathspell Omega, Krypt, Ondskapt, Exiled from Light, Horna, Ildjarn, Mgla, Drowning the Light, Summoning, Taake, Tsjuder and Windir.

finally black metal gets brought up.

I like the more rock type of black metal, venom, celtic frost, and maybe satyricon.

And Sigh because of their originality and excellent vocals.

I've been posting longer than both of yas! :P

Also, I need to get this off my chest.

Venom = / = Black metal.

WAH THEY COINED THE TERM.

Yeah, so if Sum41 were the ones that coined the term "punk" would that make them punk? Fuck no.

They are thrash metal, pure and simple.

Then I could say Death is thrash metal, but they're not. Venom is early black metal, other bands simply added on to the genre with new vocal styles or whatever else.

If Sum 41 had coined the term Punk then they could easily be Punk. Punk would just be very different to what it is now. It'd be like Sum 41-ey.

I just said why. Bands that formed after added new styles to black metal. Its like comparing death to morbid angel.

Death
Morbid Angel

Both bands are death metal but there's still a difference. Genres evolve over time.

At 2/28/10 03:35 PM, AniMetal wrote: Then why isn't black metal venom-ey?

because most bands that start a scene don't sound like the rest of the bands. The early era of black metal (Venom, Bathory, Celtic Frost and some even argue Mercyful Fate, but I disagree there) had no sound like the rest of the scene. In fact, black metal has three waves of sound, the first wave is basically thrash metal with a more dark immagry and sound, the second is the most widely known, the scandinavian black metal scene, like Burzum, Mayhem and Emperor and the third is symphonic/melodic/atmospheric, like Abigail Williams, Summoning and Forest of Fog.

Venom isn't black or thrash anyway, but kind of a bastardization of both, in my opinion.

Either way, Venom sucks ass. They had like 3 good albums, and most of it was just like slayer-status boring anyway.

Because Venom is considered FIRST WAVE black metal, after that comes modern black metal which is probably what you (and me) listen to.

He's doing a History of Metal so you'd think any would be appropriate. But really you're going to want something relevant to early and popular stuff like Maiden, Priest, Sabbath, Metallica... Manowar.
Some obscure quote ain't gonna be good for a speech.
