I'd insist on getting The Metal Opera, Pt. 2. I've not listened to the first :P.

Every genre of Metal and Heavy Metal has the same roots. Heavy Metal is the roots, yo. And its the sunshine and nutrients. And in the case of Manowar, its the testosterone. Which has nothing to do with plant life, but to not mention Manowar is such a conversation would be very unbecoming.

Indeed, cause otherwise they wouldn't be metal...

What I meant is that if black metal and sbm came from the same place, they are now totally different genres of metal and I don't see these two genres as members of the same family.

Avantasia is pretty win. Even though Tobias kinda looks like Billy Ray Cyrus. Lmao.

Scarecrow was pretty enjoyable... I've listened to both Part 1 and 2 of The Metal Opera, but I like the one with No Return better. Whichever that is.

Hey guys, I am listening to a band called "Eternal Tears of Sorrow", what do you think about them?

Until I've listened to enough black metal and symphonic black metal, I am not going to agree with your statement. For now, symphonic black metal is relevant enough to black metal.

Just like Death Metal and Melodeath

Now that I can understand.

Well that's silly. I'd get The Metal Opera, Pt. 1 before even getting Pt. 2 for the sake of chronology. Or even better, get them together.

Funny you mention that as I'm aiming to listen to at least one metal band from as many countries as possible.

Is it me or does it suck?

My music is just too, like, deep, man.

If you were deep like me, maybe you'd understand.

But you're not deep. So you don't.

Deep.

A lot of things are deep.

Like caverns.

But not Duff.

He's not deep.

Anyway, does anyone want to recommend me a Gamma Ray album?

I recommend getting Power Plant or Land of the Free first, either is good. However, I prefer Power Plant and it's my favourite Gamma Ray album but others like Land of the Free more.

I second this statement.

Now guys, if I were to get into Opeth, what albums/tracks would you recommend I start with? I mean, I'm really starting to like the progressive stuff, and I think Opeth would be great to get into.

I'm assuming the most popular songs on youtube aren't the best.

Blackwater Park! This is the album I started off with as well as my sister and she became an Opeth fanatic within a short amount of time. If you want to listen to one song from that album right now, try out Bleak. That song has a fantastic intro and riff.

I'm assuming the most popular songs on youtube aren't the best.

Popularity =/= Best but that should be obvious. However, I've been lucky a few times with looking up songs on YouTube only such as Falconer where the top two songs I saw on there (The Clarion Call and Lord of the Blacksmiths) have become my two favourites of theirs.

Blackwater park and watershed are the best albums to start off on.

Then i'd recommend all seven other opeth albums.

Every Opeth album is great.

So finntroll did pretty good on their new album, but it was a different approach. It focused more on being metal then folk. Pretty weird to hear from them, but still good.

Thanks Bahamut, I'm listening to Blackwater Park right now, and I gotta say I'm very impressed.

Glad I gave the band a second chance :)

Sup.

Haven't got enough energy to type yet, but I'll say this. Whitechapel, good band, not my type of listening material, but I got their setlist and drumstick. It Dies Today, decent enough set and I shook hands with the drummer and singer. Meshuggah, most solid fucking set ever, touched Jens' hand, touched Frederiks headstock, got looked at right in the eyes by Tomas Haake, yes, THE FUCKING HAAKE, and he gave me his drumstick.

Which I had to fight 2 other asshats off for.

Full report later. But yeah, I have the power of Switzerland in my hands.

To be fair, you were stating that its your belief that SBM and BM are not the same ;).
Personally, I'm happy to whack them all under Black Metal and start getting specific with from within there. There'd be too much clutter otherwise.
