So. Reverend Bizarre is a good band? What do you guys think? Any album I should get?

There are a few moments in my life that I would be very happy not to understand french. Reading this band's name make me shit my pants will laughter. It sucks when a band, with members who really are not french in the most obvious way, pick a name with french words in it. You guys are lucky to be unable to see the fail of this band's name....

I know bizarre is a word that exists in English, but it comes from the French language. Anyway, this band's name sucks!!!

Response to Metal Hell 2010-02-14 06:13:40

I dont look at the word Bizarre and think french i look at it and think of it as English, but then i like using the word, its works in a variety of situations and doesnt sound quite so bum-fuck as describing something as 'weird'

also get In the Rectory of the Bizarre Reverend

Coma of Souls will probably be the next album of theirs I'll get then. I was meant to get it off someone I know but I forgot to place a bid on his CD on eBay. Ah well, shit happens.

This.

It's actually quite funny when english kids start using french words as if they were always part of their own language. Bizarre sound just fine in french, but it sounds horrible in english. You guys won't see it the same way as I do because you do not speak french. Therefore you really cannot understand why it's terribly funny to ear english speaking dudes using the word bizarre.

And if it should be pronounced in english, the band would have been named Bizarre Reverend and not Reverend Bizarre. The second form is a form used in french and not in english. So these finnish guys really tried to make it sound french when they picked this name up.

Plus, they are finnish, probably not french speaking at all.
So Peste Noire sounds good, a french band. Reverend Bizarre sounds bad, not a french band :P

Also, I've always seen Kreator and Slayer as two similar bands. But one sounds good and the other just doesn't. At least IMO. I feel just the same about bands like Illnath and Cradle Of Filth. CoF sucks... and Illnath is great. Strangly, both have similar song structures and use the same kind of melodies, but one is just way better than the other one.

Which one sounds better? It better be Kreator :D

I love how Kreator shows the beauty in killing. Slayer gives the details, but Kreator just says straight forward "I WANT TO KILL YOU" lol.

CoF is mallcore, which is pretty much sellout. They just try to be sellout with HotTopic and shit, and radio-friendly. And band that tries to do that just sucks IMO.

Bare in mind that English probably isn't their first language either.
And I don't know this for sure, but I'm just speculating based on In the Rectory of the Bizarre Reverend's homage to In the Court of the Crimson King, that Reverend Bizarre is that way around because of that King Crimson link.

Or maybe they made a mistake and don't speak French so get off our backs, okay :'(!

Technically, a loan-word is part of the language it's adopted into. Its etymology isn't of the language, but once it's assimilated into a new language, it's part of that tongue. Entrepreneur, for example. It's a French word, yeah, but it's also English in the sense that we use it.

The name Reverend Bizarre doesn't mean "reverend that is bizarre," it's like a title: Bizarre is the reverend's name. Like Nev said, it's like King Crimson; King Crimson wasn't meant as "Crimson King."

Quite easy to get that. But speaking both languages, it still makes me laugh quite a bit when I ear an english speaking dude say "Rendez-Vous". And Entrepreneur sounds ok in english. Stangly, even in french we use the Entrepreneurship concept...
Which is quite funny...
Cause you guys took a word from us, made a new one with it, and now we use that big mix up of two languages as a real word :P

Oh, I get it. But... why would you ever do that? For King Crimson that fits pretty well, as these two words are english words. But Reverend Bizarre, as I told you before... sounds french. So maybe, the name of the Reverend is Bizarre. But that would have never come up to my mind the first time I read it.

Really it shouldn't. It's not like the English language has a word for that and is just trying to sound more European. It's just taking something and adapting it to our own purposes. Like Avant-Garde. That's nothing like its original usage.
Everything is ripped off from Latin anyway :P.

Are you even allowed to be elitist about this? I mean, you're not really French or English. Stop trying to be better than you are Canadian :P.

Oh, I get it. But... why would you ever do that? For King Crimson that fits pretty well, as these two words are english words.

Bizarre is an English word too. Whatever its origins, it's a word we use in the English language.
I agree it sounds a bit weird but I don't have a etymological problem with it. And I think it adds to its coolness.
Bizarre Reverend sounds like a twatty Reverend. Reverend Bizarre is some dude in the mountains who makes potions and eats goats and dances in their blood. At least in my mind :).

I am from Quebec in fact. I know it may not make a difference for someone who lives in England, but it does make a difference to us... the people that you guys would call French Canadian. Also, we are the second biggest regroupment of french speaking people in the world after France. In two words, we own. On torche criss !!!

Anyway :P
I was just pointing out the fact that it just sounds weird. There are a few sounds in french that are not used in english, making it hard for you to pronounce it the way we do. And since you are from England, I assume that hearing you say the word Bizarre is probably one of the funniest things ever :)

It's been painfully obvious for his entire existance that he was a fucking idiot.

Maybe I get sick of the shit Duff says because he's from Quebec or something. Maybe I just plain don't get on Canadians. In fact, I had drama class with a Canadian today. His accent is annoying, his humour is pretty unsophisticated, he's a dork, he can't read as well as I can. Fuck Canada. In fact, the best Canadian metal band sold out like stupid accented dorky unsophistacated cunts who can't read as well as I can.

You wasted this whole page with your 'waaaaaaah I speak French' shit.

This page needed more 'HOBBLEGOBBLE TRAVELLER IS A FUCKING SWEET ALBUM'. And it is. It was the first thing I listened to today.

This page also needed more Kyuss. This is quite Kyuss related actually:

My three-piece has been playing 'Green Machine' for a while, but we decided we should start doing Allen's Wrench. We'll probably get better at it too. That was the first day we played it together.
