I'm so glad I don't even go to your school. The amount of chavs the high school I went to had was one thing but this is another. There is so much shitty music that I'd much rather listen to than BrokenCYDE. And yes, this is going by the 20 seconds of one song I heard but goddamn that made my ears bleed far too much.

Not all is decided by the individuals, only subjective terms. I don't get why you don't understand this.

You sound like our elementary school teachers saying "every single person in the world is intelligent"

I believe that everyone is one way or another. There isn't just one kind of intelligence; there's musical, linguistic, mathematical, etc. Everyone is good at one of these, or at the very least has the potential to be good at one.

So why do we create words to describe something and give it a precise definition if absolutely EVERYTHING can fit the description?

Read up on deconstruction, learn about how language is an ineffective means of conveying thought, and get back to me.

It's like when you talk about beauty. It is in fact subjective... but to a certain extent. Some people are fucking ugly, no matter what you say, and cannot be in anyway attractive yadda yadda

I agree with Nev. Anyone can be beautiful; I can see beauty in everyone.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, right?

But hey, wait a minute: remember how you used to always rant to us about how we treated our opinions as facts?

Well,
objective = fact
subjective = opinion

By saying that some music is undeniably good, and some is undeniably bad (meaning the perception of such music as "good" is only caused by being uneducated and ignorant), you are being the biggest hypocrite I have ever seen. Duff, you're asserting that your own opinions are fact.

Hahaha I didn't mean that I think everyone is beautiful, just that I can see how people would be able to find beauty in the person, or at least look past it.

Response to Metal Hell 2009-12-22 14:33:49

Yeah, Duff you sure as hell did pull a 180 on the fact vs opinion thing.

Whether music is good or not is always a matter of opinion. Now, that is a fact. Even as much of an elitist asshole I may have been to people about their taste, and may have even voiced an opinion in a manner that suggests that it's a fact, I still know the true difference between fact and opinion. They teach that shit in school before you even get hair on your balls.

Not really.

I do not like how thug guys dresses. But they can be attractive to some people.
But if you meet a 800 lbs guy, that he has so much acne that you can't see what it's skin color, that he has a potato sized nose and that both eyes just aren't looking the same way... than he his ugly.

You may say it's not true, but I think there is a limit to what is and what isn't subjective. At some point... you can say that objectivly... someone is just ugly...
I think the same rule applies to arts. If not... than everything can automaticaly be art. Kids could say that they punched each others face because they thought that bleeding noses and bruises were artistic.
Then again, that's the point I was bringing earlier: "Why have definitions for words, if any and everything can be considered to fit in the description?"

Because almost everything could become subjective. And who decided what are subjective terms?
Also, I didn't say that there was nothing subjective, but that there was a limit to how far you can push subjectivity.

Explainning why I won't waste my time answering the rest of the post.
I never said there was nothing subjective. And what I said about seing your opinions as facts was directed mainly to Ponos during a discussion we had about Abigail Williams. He was saying this band was pure shit. But there is no way that a band like this one can be pure shit because they have artistic value.

What you guys really can't seem to understand is that at first my point was that there is greater music and that there is entertaining music. I'm not the only one saying this. I've read books and had discussions with other people who see things like this. In no way should you say that Mozart and 50 Cent are on the same level. And I also wouldn't consider most of my favorite bands to be on Mozart's level. Only a few bands I like are Outstanding artists. And that really isn't just opinion...
Because even though I consider Mozart to be a greater artist than most of the bands I like, I still listen to more of these bands then Mozart.
Still I can see the difference between entertaining, decent or good music and OUTSTANDING music.

I'm not being an hypocrite. If you want to fully understand my point you could at least ask questions on my views or whatever before judging that I am close-minded.

I knew that's what you were thinking. What you meant really is that even if the person is ugly, someone can still have a kind of fetish for that kind of people.
But could that person be wrong? Could he be wrong saying that this person is attractive?
You know that some people may like eating back their puke after mixing it with shit. But does that make puke and shit good food? I don't think so.

But maybe you like asparagus and I don't. This is what I see as subjective.

I know you guys may see me as an hypocrite... but you will realise that I never bash on someone else's taste unless I really think there is no artistic value in their stuff. But you guys talk about Behemoth and Slayer all the time and I dislike both of these bands...
Still I can't see my own tastes in music as "THE ONLY GOOD TASTES" so I will admit that there can be an artistic value in Behemoth's work.

Hahaha I didn't mean that I think everyone is beautiful, just that I can see how people would be able to find beauty in the person, or at least look past it.

"or at least look past it."

Yes, of course you can do that. But I'm not talking about being friend with an ugly person. But really finding that person to be attractive.

I know this may sound weird, but there is no contradiction in my theory. If you still don't get it... then PM me... or whatever... you don't have to... but I'm still a 100% sure that there isn't any kind of contradiction in my theory.

Megadeth.

Every metalhead knows of them. They're one of the most famous metal bands ever. Metallica were more famous, but Megadeth are totally better so in the end, they earn more win points.

Mustaine. Intricate metal thrashing riff wizard.

After listening to Megadeth for years upon years (Well, like four), experiencing them live, and watching hours of video, I have this to say.

They just don't have it anymore. Dave kinda does. Dave is still Dave.

The final nail in the coffin of substandard performance is that Chris Broderick and Shawn Drover are poor replacements for Marty Friedman and Nick Menza. Chris can shred, but lacks the feeling. Shawn can drums pretty bad, and uses a faggy open hand technique. He is simplistic, totally arena rock bullshit. Nick was really good though, powerful, complex, he was sweet as live, and he was heavy, he was METAL.

Watch Megdeth in 92, then watch them now. They've lost much of their awesomeness.

Although there is hope. Their last two albums contained material I would consider decent. The intro to their new album is really cool.

I'm getting back into Megadeth now, I stopped listening to them about a year ago, THE FUCKING REMASTERS SUCK and I couldn't find any original recordings to listen to.

The answer was staring me in the face, download them from Youtube. So now I have Rust in Peace in the original recordings, although the quality is a bit shit.

I think Rust in Peace would have to be one of my favourite albums ever made. It is one of the best metal albums I've ever heard. I think it's fucking awesome.

That is all.

The greatest line-up ever, ever. Also, notice how they don't rush this one, like every other time I've heard them play it.

No bands really sound similiar, but they fall in the same genre with bands like Soilwork and Godsmack. Its industrial metal, very catchy drum beats and riffs, melodic choruses, science fiction and machine related lyrics.
Just check them out, almost all of their albums are amazingly good, especially Digimortal, Archetype, and Obsolete.

Duff, let's just call this off. From what I can tell, this is like two literary critics arguing; they can argue all they want, but neither will make the other see their point. I think both sides of the argument are equally valid, they're just two ways of interpreting the extent to which subjectivity goes.

That is pretty much what I was saying...

I also just bought an album on eBay. Not metal. But I can't seem to find the good classification for them.
Their band name is Beast and they are European but they have worked mostly on Quebec's musical scene. From what I know of that kind of music I think they could be classified as Trip-Hop or Trip-Rock. Both of these classifications have been used by other users of last.fm, so at least I know I'm not the only one to think they have elements of these musical genres.

It's just to ask you guys how you would classify them.
Thanks!
