I personally find them boring, and incredibly overrated.

I feel like I'm the only one in here that listens to the heavier stuff. You guys usually talk about the Following 5 things:
Power metal
Opeth
Dream Theater
Porcupine tree
Admitting and rejecting new guys.

Like seriously. Wtf.
Am I the only one to notice this?

I feel like I'm completely musically excluded from the discussion.

Are you serious? We keep talking about Technical Brutal Death Metal all the time, this and the usual discussions about black metal. I can't see how you would be the only one listenning to heavier stuff...

And I'm not really into Opeth myself, but still... they are metal, so yeah, these guys have the right to discuss them right here :P

There is plenty of Doom chat in here. And Doom is way heavier than your poncy Death Metal :P.

Im actually surprised that they have not been discussed here lately, even though they just released a new album.

HOLY SHIT!!!! Really? I love Porcupine Tree and I had no idea they put out a new album. Unless its Fear of a Blank Planet, which I have known about forever. Is that the album were discussing? And if it is, or isn't, I can probably convince my dad to buy it for himself and then I just steal it from him. And on a side Porcupine Tree note, which do you think is their best alubm? Mine's Deadwing.

So I've had Jesu's Silver EP for god knows how long now and I absolutely love it but for some reason whenever the first three tracks were done I'd go and listen to something else. I listened to Dead Eyes for the first time today and I was completely blown away. This track is nothing short of amazing.

Lol.
But you get what I mean, right?
My point is that you are never talking about anything that I know/care anything about anymore.
So, I feel really hesitant about posting.
Also, for some sweet Avant-garde bm, check out <code>

Of course, none of you will.
But anyway.
Let's try to increase the variety of discussion, I've noticed recently, that bands that play tech death, but still try to be Melodic at parts, really piss me the fuck off.
I mean, wtf.

I've seen them life twice (once with Cynic/Meshuggah and the other with Atheist) and they were pretty good live.

I'm surprised that you would ever expect me to ignore an avant garde recommendation. I've only heard of this band. I thought Vortex was with them for some reason, but I guess I was wrong. Also, I didn't know Vicotnik was in the band. I definitely have to take a look, now.

I think that was meant as an introduction to the things that followed. Like we'd not actually change our ways.

Hey guys, you should all check out the Puerto Rican band ANKLA. Their pretty good. they mix good metal with puertorrican folk music. Sometimes they sound a little core-ish, but its great.

What are you talking about? That's the best part, going back and forth between really intense and being melodic is an awesome formula for songs longer than 8 minutes long.

Don't think Meshuggah is melodic, but they definitely are good. I like the guitars and drums of In Flames, but IMO the vocals are better in Insomnium.

I'll listen to Kataklysm now, since they seem to be the favorite of most.

I like In Flames a lot because I love everything from Clayman and before it. I also think Come Clarity is pretty awesome and A Sense of Purpose was interesting to listen to. I didn't even realize that it was them at the time, and in the thought that it was someone else, I didn't have to look at their old stuff and go "BLASPHEMY!!!" But, I had already liked it, so I couldn't cry "BLASPHEMY!!!"

Oh, and Kataklysm is officially my favorite melo-death band right now. I love It Turns to Rust and Let Them Burn off In The Arms of Devestation.

I just listened to It Turns to Rust, man is it awesome. Definitely going on my list. I'll listen to more of them later, but for now i'll just try to download as much of them as I can.

Currently listening to new Ensiferum album. It's good, but nothing to get excited about if you don't like Ensiferum. I hear there's a br00tal banjo solo on here, though.

Opeth to tour Australia in November.

I just looked through my Zune and it turns out I already have Still Life. I thought it was a different album I had by Opeth. I have not yet listened to it, though. Now to get My Arms, Your Hearse. I'm getting Behold the Monolith's debut album as well, thanks to Idio's recommendation.

Funny how that song's recently mentioned since my sister got into The Prodigy a while ago and I gave it a listen as well. Pretty good from what I've heard.

Hmmm.
I am slowly beginning to prefer Black metal. Over Death metal.
It just feels more truly evil at times.

Hey fellas. I was hoping for some recommendations. I haven't really listened to metal since high school. Went to a punk show the other night and there was a metal band, and it really made me miss back in the day. I was hoping i could get a small list of whats good in metal these days.
