Thanks for the suggestions.

If you like Windir you should definitely check out Thyrfing too.

I think Windir are great. Despite getting stoned and calling them core. They're not core. They're awesome.

Arntor, Ein Windir.

Duff, you want folk/black, then get Taake's Hordalands Doedskvad.

Myrkgrav is some pretty good folk metal. There are some folk metal bands I would have recommended a while back that I either can't recall too well, or feel that they were never really good, but I still think Myrkgrav is good. and Primordial. I can't think of much that there would be a slight chance that you haven't heard of them.

Yeah, heavy metal, not power. And not "folk metal-ish"

lol It does actually sound similar to the one and only drum beat ever used in any reggaeton song. I'm still liking this song, though.

Did I mention that reggaeton is the worst genre of music ever?

Any thoughts on Wyrd?

I haven't listened to much of their newest album, The Scythe

Actually, they've released another album since called Two Tragedy Poets (...and a Caravan of Weird Figures). From what I've heard, it's all acoustic and I'm really curious to hear what it's like. I tried a song or two on The Scythe but didn't really enjoy it due to its core elements.

Everybody's heard about the byrd.

The byrd is the wyrd.

Myrkgrav. Solo projects, programmed drums, only one album = me not liking very much. I don't know what it is about one album bands that I don't really like. I'd prefer to listen to a band with a consistant legacy than one output. You can't really blame them if they havn't gotten around to it yet I guess.

And it can be risky when you get past your first six (Maiden).

Actually, fuck Myrkgrav. It doesn't take more than 3 years to write a black folk album if you truly are passionate about it.

Fuck, I havn't even listened to that album in years.

A good album doesn't become less good if the artist stops working or makes a crappy album afterward. That's just retarded. You're retarded.

Which Meshuggah (or however the hell you spell that) album should I look into first? Because I hear a lot of mixed messages on which album people think is a good starting point. Some people I hear love their old stuff and hate their new stuff and vice versa. Which would you guys recommend?

Sorry for the double post, but I forgot to add in that i've been listening to Deicide a lot for the past few days, this song in particular. That's not all i'll listen to in the future though, I'm really getting more and more into this awesome band.

Where in history has an artist made a good album, a shit album, and then a good album again?

Becoming the Archetype. Their first album was really good, their third and latest album was really good, and in my opinion their second album isn't that good. Does that count?

What does this have to do with the sounds you hear on a good album not changing after a crappy album by the same artist is released? How can I make this any clearer? If Images and Words was Dream Theater's only album they ever made (or since I'm talking to you, for the sake of argument, let's say Awake), or if Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence came immediately after that album, it wouldn't make Images and Words (or Awake) any less ridiculously awesome. Do you really hear an amazing album, cream your pants, then hear a really bad album by the same artist, and your semen then comes back up your leg and back into your dickhole?

Wait. What the fuck did I just say? Screw it. I'm hitting enter.

Well dude, you're just proving my point. DT are never going to make an album as good as Images or Awake. It's hard to make a fuckload of albums and still kick arse consistantly. Four is a pretty safe number.

exactly. But does that make Images or Awake less good? That's my point. I guess I'm really not making myself clear. I was just replying to your remark about one album bands/inconsistent bands. For a while Cynic was a one album band, and that one album may have been one of the best progressive metal albums ever.

That's probably the best example. But still, I didn't check out Cynic for a long time because they only had one album. I guess a band with just one good album don't strike me as good as a band with four good albums. I'm not entirely sure why I think like that.

New Dethklok album is great.
However it's no where near as memorable or catchy as their first =(

Also, new Marduk is damn fine.

you so silly!

i'm like the opposite of you; i always put off getting into bands with huge discographies because i have no idea where to start and it's intimidating. anything more than 6 albums makes me go "ehhh"

If a band happens to only ever make one album, it happens. Sure, it would be nice to hear a few more albums they could have made but that's just how things are with these groups. I would like to have more Wintersun, though.

I've yet to see the second season of Metalocalypse and I've heard several times it's not as great as the first season, so the new album not being as good as the first doesn't sound too surprising.

Opeth:

Eight of their nine albums were amazing BUT My Arms, Your Hearse was incredibly boring to me. (Although, not necessarily bad)

Also, I just realized while researching if Opeth had any more albums worth getting that I own all nine Opeth albums.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU - I wish they had more. :(

Opeth has put out 9 great albums. Or are they the exception to the rule?
