I've heard of them, just I always thought they were some screamo band. :O

Links to some good songs pl0x.

Also, Divine wings is good but it does have anything above the rest of the album.

And Divine wings, the song, has got to be the weakest 20+ minute long metal song ever written.

Walls Of Babylon - Symphony X, best song on Paradise Lost by farrrrrr.

I sort of agree, though I believe Manowar's 'Achilles, Agony and Esctasy in Eight Parts' is worse by quite a margin.
DWoT does have some brilliant moments in it. Mainly the opera bits :P. But yar, I agree that its no Odyssey, ACoS or Octavarium.

doesn't compare to Divine Wings, V, or the Odyssey

V, Paradise Lost and The Odyssey are my favorites.
But The Divine Wings Of Tragedy is a pretty much average album... or at least not one of the best Sympony X albums.

V, Odyssey and Twilight in Olympus are my three favorite albums, there other four albums are good but only when i'm in the right mood. (Yes I own all seven of there albums)

Indeed.

Speaking of which, SX is making a live DVD and it's going around that these are the songs that will be on it:

PARADISE LOST SONGS:
Eve Of Seduction
Domination
Revelation
Set The World on Fire
The Serpant's Kiss
Paradise Lost

(Probably since Paradise Lost made SX a shitloaaaaaaaaaaaad of fans)

ODYSSEY SONGS:

Inferno
King Of Terrors
Odyssey

V SONGS:

Fallen
Evolution

TWILIGHT IN OLYMPUS SONGS:

Church Of The Machine
Through The Looking Glass

DIVINE WINGS SONGS:

Of Sins and Shadows.

(Nothing off there first two albums)

Paranoid is kind of lame, and also way too overplayed. It has a catchy riff and shit but it gets boring pretty quickly. The rest of that album is much better.

This is false.

Indeed, the whole of Divine Wings is fantastic. I'd go as far as putting it in my list of best metal albums recorded because it's that awesome. I'm surprised how he enjoys their other albums but not so much for Divine Wings. Ghoul would back me up here if he was still around.

What happened to him anyway?

I beg to differ, Divine wings by SX is similar to Nightfall In Middle Earth by Blind Guardian.

While both are good albums, they are highly overrated as most people consider them the best albums by those bands when they have better albums.

Divine Wings the song is very mih, the only good parts are the parts with vocals. The instrumental only parts and the intro opera vocals section are veryyyyyyyyy boring.

Of Sins and shadows, Sea Of Lies, Out Of the ashes, Pharaoh, Eyes Of The Medusa and The Witching Hour...while these six songs seem ZOMG ORGASMIC at first, after you listen to them enough times you realize they are nothing special. All SX's albums after Divine Wings have better vocals, better lyrics, better guitar, better drums and better keyboards. (Although the only album that is better at bass than Divine Wings is Paradise Lost, I admit)

It's nothing special compared to V, Odyssey, Twilight In Olympus and to an extent - Paradise Lost.

What do you guys see as so great about the album with the exception of The Accolade and Candlelight Fantasia? (Cause thsoe two songs are great)

I own six BG albums, and i'm going to rank them from most favorite to least favorite:

1.) A Night At The Opera - One of the best albums ever made in my opinion.
2.) Somewhere Far Beyond
3.) Battalions Of Fear
4.) Follow The Blind
5.) Nightfall In Middle Earth
6.) A Twist In The Myth

Can't wait for BG's next album, coming out in February 2010! :D

Yes, I'm pretty sure he would. It really is one of their best. Out of the Ashes, Medusa, Pharaoh, Of Sins and Shadows, the Accolade, Sea of Lies, the Witching Hour, all awesome stuff. Stop comparing SX to DT, besides the fact SX played several music festivals with DT and DT advertised SX in London, and that they're both prog metal, they have little in common.

or The Odyssey.

Not anywhere close.

Symphony X - Of Sins And Shadows - live version, much better than the album version even if the vocals are pitchy.

I don't like early BG much. And I haven't listened to ANatO yet but even if its good, Nightfall is still an amazing album and the songs on there are stronger than anything else besides And Then There Was Silence.

Stop comparing SX to DT, besides the fact SX played several music festivals with DT and DT advertised SX in London, and that they're both prog metal, they have little in common.

They're both Prog Metal. Thats all they need to be comparable. If they sounded the same that would be shite. The differences are good and shouldn't mean you can't compare them.

And they are essentially the same. Long songs, virtuoso performances, operatic vocals, fantasy lyrics.
Thats quite a lot to have in common. Just because the tone and sound is different is what keeps both bands interesting. Otherwise, they're incredibly similar.

And that wasn't even my point of comparison anyway. I was using Dream Theater songs to compare with because Octavarium and A Change of Seasons are probably the two most popular 20 min + songs.

Not anywhere close.

It's not that far behind. It's a very good song. Its just not as good as the others.

awesome guitar riffs and solos that have repeated in my head many times in all the years after I first heard the album, I dig the choruses and the rhythm of the drums, good songwriting in general, I don't really care about lyrics, I don't really remember the title track very well and don't care, etc.

Symphony X has of Sins and Shadows, Out of the Ashes, Sea of Lies, Eyes of Medusa (which has an especially awesome and memorable guitar solo), Pharaoh, Accolade, and Witching Hour. I listened for the first time and was like "wow this shit is awesome" and then I listened for the hundredth time and was like "wow this shit is awesome".

Twilight in Olympus has Church of the Machine.
