OK, metal topic now, all except one Running Wild albums I ordered the other day (i.e. Gates to Purgatory, Branded and Exiled, Blazon Stone and Masquerade) have arrived and although they don't match the awesomeness of Pile of Skulls, I've been enjoying them quite a lot. I think intelligence is all about being open-minded. There is no close-minded genius in our world. Cause you can't be smart and refuse to try some new stuff, learn more about things you don't know. But any open-minded intelligent person would listen through their album and make their opinion afterward.

I'm getting tired of people liking bands, just because of the technical skill the guitarist/drummer has.

It's acceptable to appreciate technical and awesome guitar work and drum work.

But MUSIC, is about the MUSIC, of the DIFFERENT instruments coming together, creating DIFFERENT SOUNDING MOODS, ATMOSPHERE, using RHYTHMS, and everything just comes together and it all sounds good. Fuck, like, my cousin has the problem real bad. He only listens to music with virtuosic guitarists. And most of it is core. I don't think he understands music. He just likes mind blowing shredding.

Weedeater don't blow me away with technical fucking solos. They just kick arse because of the whole incredibly heavy, slow, heavy, slow, doomy, blues. With awesome vocals. About weed. Sometimes. And people 'aint gonna get it. I love the blues. The blues is my music. And that's part of the reason I like stoner metal, as it's rooted in blues.

I guess when I listen to music I'm focusing on guitar shit though. I mean, I play guitar bass and drums and sing, so I think I kinda have a slight grasp on whats going on. But my music is usually guitar dominant.

The guitar is the focal point (Majority)
The bass gives it backbone (Majority)
The drums give a rhythmic effect, keeps the band in time, and isn't always as set in stone as the guitars and bass, giving it uniqueness that I really enjoy.
Singing is never constant, as it is merely present to give the music concept, thus making the music more enjoyable.

But guitars are constant, building, and the whole like. Show stealing part of heavy music. And that's weird. Perhaps one of the reasons I think Om are really really awesome.
