Locked. I will just talk about bm here.

Recommendations?

I just got Dawn's latest, I've never listened to them before. Tomas Asklund drums for them, he was the drummer from Dissection AND he is the new Gorgoroth drummer. Does anyone know what King ov Hell and Gaahl are doing now that they are no longer in Gorgoroth? Because they wanted to keep going under that name without Infernus last thing I heard. Anyway I'm psyched for the new Gorgoroth release.

And the new Immortal release for that matter.

What's going on with I? They making a new album? I never got their debut.

Me two the best part is infurnus got pest back on vocals (aka the under the sign of hell vocalist, and the vocalist for obtained enslavement, who i recommend to you) it will be interesting to see what king and gaahl do, they both have other projects that they are part of maybe they will do something together...? i think old school gorgoroth had alot more going for it then the new stuff.

I dont know what they are doing, is there actually gona be a release??

the s/t is good its not ground breaking but its enjoyable maybe a little cliche and some of the lyrics are terrible in places (quote: I ride my fate with all my hate) but it gets your head banging

Pest is an awesome addition to the line up, yes yes yes, I've never heard Obatained Enslavement, are they that good?

King and Gaahl wanted to keep being Gorgoroth, (King composed the last two albums apparently) so yeah I'm still unclear what will happen there. And yes, the first three Gorgoroth albums RULE SO FUCKING HARD.

So should I get it? I mean, I prefer getting albums from bands who want to go somewhere, I don't really want to get I's self titled unless they're going to make another. Bah. Black 'n' Roll. I should get it really. Why do you think it's not ground breaking? I thought it was a unique album.

yeh i remember reading about king doing alot of work, i think there are definite flashes of brilliance on ad maj (i.e. sign of an open eye) but rest is a bit too generic and i really dont like frost as a drummer

in terms of it not being ground breaking really its heavy metal with coarse vocals and some black metal themes (mountains and so forth) its a real mix of an album you have the stuff thats technically not amazing but enjoyable like:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7tMlG9Kg 0k

then there are the ones like below that do really work well and give a good mood

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1SHr82KS6 tg&feature=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Do2ykXZ0 zo&feature=related

it may be because i got it ages ago and i over listened to it, so i could be talking out my ass

I'm probably gonna go to a concert with In Flames, The Faceless, Between The Buried and Me, and 3 Inches of Blood. Personally don't really like In Flames, but The Faceless and Between the Buried and Me are great. Does anybody have an opinion on 3 Inches of Blood? I've never heard of them, so...
Also, does anybody here like Between the Buried and Me. I know they're metalcore, but I still like them.

In flames dont do a bad job live in terms of getting the crowd moving but his vocals are so weak live, at bloodstock and when they supported motorhead the clean parts are almost inaudible. It was a real shame at bloodstock they played an oldie (graveland) but the sound setup was all wrong if they hadnt said what it was we would have never known.

They fucking punish. Power/heavy metal that worships at the altar of Rob Halford. The only problem is slightly -core screamed vocals, but I love 3iob anyways. Goat Riders Horde is one of my favorite songs, as is Destroy the Orcs. They're one of my favorite bands, I don't know why I don't listen to them more.

3 inches of blood is pretty good, i don´t really like the singers screaming vocals, but he has cool raspy/high vocals that sound like Udo Dirkschneider.

Apparently, the screamed vocals are a second vocalist who just left the band or something. Also, they have a new album coming out in a couple months, I am stoked.

I heard about this just now and I'm pleased myself. The album cover looks really good and dark. :) This should be coming out in September, which is great to hear as that month is looking good for metal releases as Ensiferum and Megadeth (of course) are releasing their new albums then as well.

Apparently it's like Unia so I wouldn't get excited.

There first four albums were such masterpieces, while Unia is good it is an utter failure in comparison.

Also do you guys remember how I think there should be some new bands that combine thrash and power metal into one orgasmic collection?

Well just thought of two perfect names that have yet to be taken according to Google search, MA and Myspace Music:

Knightmare
Ultra Viole(n)t Ray

Am I right in saying these two names would be PERFECT for a power metal/thrash metal collision band?

Also, lol, Dragonslayer would be a good name for a band too. Haha but it's PROBABLY already taken.

Wow. I actually only have 4 more DT albums before I have every studio album. But two of them I am never going to get (Debut and Falling into Infinity) so Metropolis pt 2 and Six Degrees is all I really need. Why did I wait last for these ones? Because Metropolis has that shitty Spirit Carries on song, and Six Degrees is boring?

And yes, CD stores are horrible in this town. JB HiFi is pretty cool. I bought Awake in my local shop, because you guys were all talking about them and I just saw it sitting there. Then my life was changed forever.

BUT THEN THEY MADE SHIT LIKE OCTAVARIUM.

So yeah. Best things I ever found in my shop:

Absu
Emperor
Dream Theater
Enslaved
Cynic

Worst things:

Spineshank
Within Temptation
Lol there's so many I can't remember.
The Best of Times is stuck in my head.

I can understand why you won't get them two. Falling Into Infinity is their weakest album and debut, while it's not a bad album, it doesn't have James LaBrie and it sounds out of place to all their other albums.

so Metropolis pt 2 and Six Degrees is all I really need. Why did I wait last for these ones? Because Metropolis has that shitty Spirit Carries on song, and Six Degrees is boring?

SFAM is worth getting. Sure, you don't like The Spirit Carries On and I don't like Through Her Eyes, but putting those songs aside, there's a lot of good stuff in the album. I recommend getting it and I'm actually surprised you've yet to own it. As for Six Degrees, I guess it's just a matter of taste. Some like it, some don't like it but I like it a lot for The Glass Prison and the 42-minute epic.

Basically they go out into the vastness of space before they should (I flew beyond the sun before it was time) and it drives them insane, making them take off their helmets and die. Underlying meanings are open to interpretation.

And why does Brann Dailor keep getting killed in their videos?

Not true. In both the Divinations and Oblivion videos they all die.

It's cause it sucks big fat dicks.

And Ponos, Falling into Infinity is ace. And When Dream and Day Unite is even acer.

The weakest Dream Theater albums are EASILY Train of Thought, Six Degrees and Black Clouds & Silver Linings.
People just whine about Falling Into Infinity because its apparently a Pop album. Which is total bullshit. They didn't even release any singles from it, so its clearly not. Unlike the direction they're taking nowadays which is sad.

Winterhearts is a good album, but I don't think it's their best. I just hope this one is better than Unia, which had two mediocre songs.

I think the studio album tier list goes like:
Silence
Reckoning Night
Winterhearts Guild
Ecliptica
Unia

Ecliptica

The first four = Amazing, Unia = Mih.

And yes, it is a coincidence that my best to worst are also chronological order of when they were released.

At least we agree Winterhearts is in the middle. Haha. I feel Ecliptica is too pitchy in some of it's songs, although pretty much the entire album is filled with classics, it doesn't do the same effect the other albums do.

I LOVE Reckoning Night. I think that every Sonata album has a kind of general mood you have to be in, and I love the one reckoning puts me in. It's actually the only album of theirs where I like every song.

And Silence... just fucking rules. Great starting point for Sonata if you're trying to get what they're all about.
