I have this really annoying spit curl type thing as a fringe now. I don't know how it came to be but I remember having to trim this little shoot but it got stubbly and kept growing back. Now I have to keep it until its caught up with the length of the rest :(.

Black Sabbath's Iron Man. It's the 70's man. Groovy. There is no commercial influence, no core, no emoness. Iron Man is just incredibly heavy marijuana blues rock jamming about a big metal guy smashing things, created by some of the most kick arse musicians ever.

You say there is no commercial influence to Black Sabbath, I wouldn't say that. I'd say they probably didn't make it just to sell records, but the song is still very simple and has a song structure that is very similar to any commercial music. And for all the core and emoness part... I think that this is just opinions... I hate whiny shit music, but I still like metalcore. And the last part is really really really funny!


Iron Man wasn't created to make money. And it certainly contained no traits of what was popular music when it was released. It was awesome stoners making music for their own enjoyment and pushing the envelope of rock. There's a lot of variety in the song as well. Iron Man isn't pop dude.

Basic basic lame sounding pop music influence shouldn't reach metal, and doesn't reach real metal.

Are you claiming that Dream Theater are not real metal? Or that they lost their metalness when John got an haircut?

that doesn't make it commercial. commercial is when the artists change their music to sell. even if the music is poppy, it's not necessarily commercial, though the two go hand in hand.

They still write good music, its just not pushing the envelope. They're great at being modern Dream Theater. But they're hardly a Prog Metal band anymore as they've stuck to the same sort of thing.

Oh god. That's a pretty bad scope of Opeth. You need Still Life, My Arms Your Hearse, Morningrise and Orchid. Those are definitely their best albums.

I had a debate over metal drumming having better technique and whatnot compared to rock/indie/alternative (whatever Muse is).

In the end we both came to a compromise that they're 2 completely different drummers/genres/techniques, thus can't say who is better then who, and that they're all good :3

So I listened to In the Court of the Crimson King for the first time today and loved it. In much less interesting news I can't stop listening to Are You Dead Dead Yet. The video makes me rage but I can't get that riff out of my head.

Also you guys need to listen to this. I will continue to post this band until someone pays attention to me.

When I compared AC/DC with Pink Floyd I was not talking about their whole discography and career but really just about their genre of music. AC/DC makes simple music and Pink Floyd a much more complex genre of music. So do we have to conclude that the more complex music gets, the better it is? I don't think so.

Sonata Arctica simply cannot win because they play a lot of chords and use simple strong structures. What about the deepest meaning of their lyrics and the ambience they can create playing their music? WE DONT FUCKING CARE !! CAUSE THEY OBVIOUSLY SUCK COMPARED TO ANY TECHNICAL OR PROG BAND!!!
